AK General /akg/
M203 Edition

Old thread here >>29841764
>>
>>29854945
Is that a one-off modification or are their manufacturers that make M203s that can mount onto AKs?
>>
>>29854951
It's not a one off, but I'm unsure if there are manufacturers that make them specifically for mounting on the AK.

First my WASR 10

Then an AK 74

Then an AK shotgun of some sort

Then one of those AK 'sniper rifles'

What's /akg/'s dream collection?

Managed to find an unissued East German pebble grain furniture set, was in a thick plastic heat sealed bag with different compartments, and the stock doesnt have a hole drilled in it for the tang screw, total was 65$ at knob creek, did i do good?

>>
>>29856624
Just run he border on a dirt bike if Mexicans can cross our southern border Canada can't be that hard.
>>
>>29856641
I've considered it but I don't really have the time right now and the company that sells/was selling the Tula deacts won't sell to you in person, so I would have to find someone who already owns one and buy it from him or find an address where I can have one shipped after purchasing online. I would be more inspired if the kits weren't so fucked up but not much is salvageable anyways.

Buddy of mine has an unfired pre-ban Norinco Type 56 AK in 5.56

I want an optic for my SLR104. I'm looking at either an Obzor, one of the Russian tune red dots, or another Aimpoint (which is what I currently use on my SLR when I want an optic as I just take it off my AR)

The aimpoint will be the better red dot sight, but just how much better is it than say a PK01? My big thing is that if something goes wrong with the PK01 I'm screwed whereas Aimpoints can be fixed.

The Obzor is very appealing because of its lack of electronics the only part that has a life on it is the low light tritium reticule at 12 years. The whole prism optic thing seems really neat, too. But just how is the longevity of the Obzor?

If I had to pick a Russian optic it would be the Obzor over the PK01 simply because it's different and rather cool.

tl;dr Obzor or proper Western red dot for my SLR104?

Just finished my grips to go along with my SLR-107. By the way I'm the anon that stripped the finish off my rifle before I shot it once and refinished it myself. There was no rust. Not sure if I was lucky or those other two guys just got fucked. I took it out shooting and mag dumped 4 mags and though the gun did get hot nothing happened. Do you guys think I avoids the problem because of the finish I did myself or what?
>>
>>29857069
The issue was the parkerization process and never the paint. The paint is not much different than what's on Russian guns.

>>29856975
Depends on what you want. I think the Obzor is cool as fuck, but I would never buy one unless I was trying to recreate a certain build. They're expensive and, compared to most Aimpoint options, worse all around. If you want something that looks pretty on the AK and functions decently, then go with the Obzor. If you're fine for trading functionality for the ugly look of an Aimpoint on an AK, then go with the Aimpoint.

They both have "virgin" underfolders, I believe. (Bottom right)
There are plenty of other ways to SBR either.
More than a few guys just drill and tap the back plate and use an ACE style folding mech and a manticore triangle.
Beyond that, most SBRing will be way more involved.

Related to this, but I'm on the fence between an Obzor and Aimpoint PRO. The Obzor has the whole cool Eastern AK optic thing going for it and will look nice and proper with the rifle, and collimating optics are awesome as they have no need for batteries, but the Aimpoint PRO is an Aimpoint and comes with everything great that comes with Aimpoint and is about the same price. I've been on the fence with these two for months and months.

Jim Fuller unironically believes 5.45 Krink barrels MUST be 1:6.3" twist or the rifle WILL keyhole no matter what per their "testing." I know this because he said it to my face.

I think he's good, but he's not the end all of AK knowledge in the US. He also has a funny repeat customer base that form something of their own social following, which is a little weird, but there's weirder firearms groups out there.

Is there any reason you can't/shouldn't use a full auto safety selector on a semi auto ak?

I always see people talking about modifying them to be semi auto but they never give a reason why.

Without a full auto trigger group/sear the full auto selector doesn't do anything different than a semi auto one, right?

IIRC its because you can make the rifle go band if the switch goes further than it should.
>>
>>29865175
When you disassemble the rifle, the full auto safety will cause the hammer to drop. Other cases are if you flick the safety up too hard and it jumps past the dust cover stop, you could potentially cause the rifle to fire.
>>
>>29865200
>>29865206

On my WASRs, and Draco the selector is "semi auto" (it has the notch in it), but on all three the safety will still drop the hammer if you rotate it far enough. Only my SAR-1 has enough metal removed that it doesn't drop the hammer when removing the safety lever.

So does Century just not give a fuck when they are modifying safety levers or is there no real standard for what constitutes a "semi auto" safety selector and everyone just does it differently?

I live on an island and today is a really nice day, so I'm thinking about going to one of our many secluded beaches and taking some pics of my rifle by the sea as long as nobody sees me because it mite b cool

Okay gang, need input, with evidence via video or pics, to buy an Arsenal SLR- 107FR. I want to add a high end AK rifle to my collection. (1)I'm turned off by the permanently attached LH folding stock because it would mess with the optic rail mount if I put one on my rifle. (2)Also the 24mm muzzle threads is another downside to me, since I figured if I wanted to put a different muzzle device on the rifle it would be more difficult to find due to most companies making devices for 14x1 LH. (3)I've heard and seen evidence of Arsenals quality control, what with canted sights and sticky, rough bolt groups that will hang up when charged. I know that a lot of you would say that I could just put an optic on a rail system on the handguard, but I dont want it so far forward, and it seems to defeat the puporse of the side folding stock if it will interfere with the optic. It seems like a lot of controversy for a rifle at such a high price tag. Should I buy one or just wait for something else to come along. I have been eyeing the Definitive Arms DAKM though they are out of stock at the moment on Atlantic, have been for some months actually. Sorry for the wall of text but I want to know for certain if I should or shouldn't buy one. Im not rich by any means and I dont want to drop a grand on a rifle I'll hate. Thanks again.
Here is the link to the DAKM for comparison

>(1)I'm turned off by the permanently attached LH folding stock because it would mess with the optic rail mount if I put one on my rifle.
Then just don't fold the stock, they lock up rock solid. I honestly don't understand why some people think the folding stock is a negative point. If you don't want to fold it then just don't fold it, and if you ever need to make the rifle more compact (for storage or transport or whatever) you have the ability to cut nearly a third of the length of the rifle off by folding it.
>(2)Also the 24mm muzzle threads is another downside to me, since I figured if I wanted to put a different muzzle device on the rifle it would be more difficult to find due to most companies making devices for 14x1 LH.
This is true, you're limited with the 24mm compared to the 14x1.
>(3)I've heard and seen evidence of Arsenals quality control, what with canted sights and sticky, rough bolt groups that will hang up when charged.
All manufactures have lemons. People just make a big deal about Arsenal lemons because MUH $1000 URRSNAL AYY KAY. Look at every single Arsenal in this thread and ask them if they have any of those issues with their rifles. If one out of every 500 rifles is a lemon then everyone and their brother will focus on that one bad rifle instead of the 499 good ones.

The whole thing behind the SLR rifles is that they have a lot of features of AK100 series rifles. If you don't want an AK100 type rifle then don't buy an SLR.
>>
>>29871659
I appreciate the input. I forgot to ask in my original post but where could I pick one up, if I decide to get one, since Atlantic is out of stock and they sometimes take a while to get back in stock.

Is there any reason why Bulgarian 74 parts are cheaper than Russian parts? Is it mostly just because Russian stuff demands a premium and because there are more importers of Bulgarian parts than there are Russian parts?

Sorry lads I have an SKS question and I figure some of you guys might have an answer for me.

http://tucson.backpage.com/SportsEquipForSale/350-trade-for-bearcat/37356845

This SKS here looks like an alright deal, but I have some questions about that silver ring at the back of the reciever? Is that just from his shitty railed dust cover or is this some sort of defect? Also what is with the wood, is it just a weird stain job you think?

Please take this cool AK camo picture as payment
>>
>>29873097

im pretty certain they will be the non-reinforced ones. which is fine because now there is a range option that isnt tapco and you can buy less of the surplus mags but still have the same amount of useable mags overall

>Do they all the same primer, powder load and bullets?
I'd imagine so, seeing as they're all Barnaul.
So long as the loading you're comparing it to is the same weight and type of bullet.
>Does the coating make much of a difference?
Unlikely.
Although I'm sure there's some reason behind it, what it is, I'm unaware of.
>Possibly corrosion resistance, and the varying degrees each coating has, has something to do with it.

Not to ATF specs of 3 torch cuts with at least 1/4" of material displaced.
Technically it's still a machine gun in their eyes.

Nothing but evidence that the ATF's 'specs' are retarded.

i think it was because the lower was too realistic

I would assume that to be the case, however, I doubt the lower would "easily" accept a standard FA trigger group. At least not any easier than making an 80% lower or a regular AR15 lower accept the parts.

That's about as good as trying to show a brainwashed liberal the error of their ways.
