>pollen tornadoes happen mostly in spring here
Jealous.

We start mid-March with the blooming trees, then transition into the pine trees, then the oaks and maples, then the actual flowers, then the wild grasses/weeds.

Then, right as we start to occasionally hit freezing temps around mid October, we get mold storms because it's raining every other day.

Then we get ice storms all winter long while only getting ~1 foot of total accumulation.

Then it starts all over.

Whereabouts do you live?
If it makes you feel better my timeline for the yearly pollen assault might be off a bit, plus I'm bad about identifying seasons.
The way I determine what season it is is like so:
If most days are in the 70's to low 80's, it's probably spring, if it's 80+ most days it's summer, 50-70's is fall, and anything else is winter.

>juan

So you are spic?

However. Failzero a shit. Why? Year ago guy came on here and asking for help from expert. Guy had jamming problem specifically FTFE and with help of some another anon and me we narrowed it down to bolt and fish the detail of the jam out of the guy and guy explained that bolt would not return to battery with round chambered but instead stopped at like 3/4th of way with rear of round out of bolt and sit its ass almost right on ejector. Then picture of bolt face was requested and behold i saw the issue. Then i made a shoop'd photo to clerely show the guy where's problem. I just now went on my laptop trying to find it and found it but couldnt find the original version without my digital drawing over it.

I circled the specific point responsible in red. The purple was where beveling should ideally be. There should not be big celestial bevel around ejector which created sharp point circled in red. Qualit bolt have subtle bevel around the ejector not agressive lazy anhled bevel that creat two sharp point circled in red.

The blue line is where verdge is and the orange and green is where rounding need to be done. The shoop was coarsely done because it was done on mobile with limited zoom in the app.

The problem was that the machining of beveling around ejector was done incorrectly and not as well as another manufacturer which rounded away all sharp angle.

Look at your toolcraft or another quality bolt and compare it against shit teir stuipd failzero bolt in upcoming pic.

That doesn't help that I'm usually taking photos at night. I take them outside when I think to take them.

I usually only take photos for a specific reason though, I don't need 3000 photos of my AR. So go figure.

I was really disappointed how dim this photo came out though, blurred it all up. I dunno if I bumped a setting or something, because the room seemed well lit.

Goddamn it! again! Geeze... well i aint going to reading every post and spent few extra sec weighting the possibility of the post to be sarcastic i have very poor ability to detect sarcastic in text unless im actively looking for it.

However look at pic from this post >>29362639

See that ridiculous celestial bevel right of the ejector responsible for two sharp verdex in red circles? The rightmost purple digital mark in pic's right over the bevel that shouldnt be of this angle and size.

That bevel shouldnt be there. At least not that angled and big. It should be very subtle and two verdex in red circle should be rounded.

LIKE YOUR QUALITY BOLT. Compare them.

>Also, is that a magnifier behind the scope?

Wut? It's a fixed LaRue rear BUIS, and a Vortex Strikefire in an ADM mount (and a VITAL-2 IR laser on the quadrail).

>I've considered selling my 13.5" VRS-T, but I can't decide if I really want to. If you're interested in it gimmie an offer.

too long, I need a 12" rail for an exposed rifle length gas block.

It's a bull barrel, so I doubt it will fit under most rail/hand guards (unless they're made to fit a suppressor).

Are you using an actual camera or a phone? If camera, and you can control it manually, put it in aperture priority and sit it on a tripod/sturdy surface. It'll take 1-10 seconds to snap the photo with indoor lighting, but it works. This picture is an example of that, taken at night with a longer shutter speed on a tripod.

Ten rounds reliably with either, can usually cram an 11th in but causes feed issues for the first couple rounds.

Recoil is STOUT. Pretty much requires shouldering your not-a-stock. Also requires having a not-a-stock.

Well you have stuff like .338 Whisper Mk2, but that's set up for subsonic.

If you mean a buffer tube, it CAN. But it's painful to shoot and hard to control due to the stout recoil, so is a bad idea.

I'm looking to build a custom AR. Now... where the fuck do I start?
I'm mostly into handguns, the only rifles I have are a Ruger 10/22 my dad got me when I was 5, and the obligatory moist nugget. I know very little about modern guns, ARs being no exception.
I've heard that when ordering the parts and building one from scratch, I'm gonna spend almost as much money on tools as I do the actual rifle. Is this true?

All my cheap parts are PSA from when I lived like 10 minutes from their storefront and could get stripped blems for ~$30-40 all day.

Already have a .300blk rifle and like it. Surprisingly accurate, very very mild on recoil, and even without a can it's significantly quieter than a 5.56.
>>
>>29363269

a 300 blk upper is on my list of things to get from PSA, after I've gotten one of their Glock 9mm AR lowers (which are unobtanium at the moment)
>>
>>29363269
That quiet? I've alawys disliked .556 noise , I don't like wearing earpro hunting and I've worried about totally fucking my ears, 300blk may be worth the cost.
>>
>>29363229
let's see how much did I spend on tools:
2 craftsman punch sets (normal and roll pin): $20 each I think (probably could have just used the normal one)
cheapass chinese vice (harborfreight): $30 (not needed if buying a complete upper)
cheap torque wrench: $30 (not needed if buying a complete upper)
ar multitool: $15
cheap screwdriver set: $15

if you really had to you could do it with a vice grip for 99% of the work. most people probably have that and screwdrivers already. buy the ar tool and you'll be good to go. maybe the punch set too.

>>
>>29363292
yeah. I have a 16" .300blk wearing a Saker brake, and with 220gr factory subs it's quieter than an unsuppressed MP5 shooting 147gr 9mm. With my 150gr subsonic handloads it's even quieter (and still cycles, yay pistol gas and a fuckhueg gas port). I've gotten it to cycle with BHO all the way down to 125gr using Sierra Prohunters and H110 while staying under 1000fps.

Unsuppressed it's not *quite* hearing safe. With my Saker on it my wife has been within arm's reach while on the phone and the other person had no idea I was shooting.
>>
>>29363374

The VITAL-2 was a contemporary of the PEQ-2, and very popular with SOCOM before the PEQ-15 took over as the standard.

I originally had a .30cal version of an A2 on it, and can't say that I notice a difference with subs. They just don't produce enough gas to really work a brake/compensator.

Supers are a different story entirely and the main reason I opted for a brake instead of the 3-prong MAAD mount.
>>
>>29363133
Whoa... Just to be clear. You have failzero?

If you have Failzero bolt which have that same twin sharp verdex in red circle yes you should round them out. Do it by having cotton tip laying nearby and depress the ejector with one of dental-like pick as you laid hobby or small file atop that verdex and push down the file down on the verdex n pull. The verdex should be instantly partially flatten in one or two short stroke of file repeat for another verdex. Then round out any rough mark with medium stone or very light pass with finer file. It doesnt need to be mirror smooth n shint but if you want go beyond feel free. Your finger and hand might get tired from fighting the ejector take break ideally dont let ejector up until you swipe away all or majority of steel dust with cotton tip.

Disassmbling the ejector is possible but if you never done it before never mind.

If you have regular quality bolt that lack incorrect retarded failzero beveling, leave it alone.

>>29363429

And dont file down the whole area just until the sharp tip verdex is just flat tip.

Man. If I didn't have bills to pay, I'd sure love to recreate my military loadout.

I guess it'll just have to be over time. I almost got a way with a free plate carrier, but I was a fool and wore it on a Battalion hike. Naturally some hotshot Major managed to somehow spot that it was an older carrier and made me return it to supply.

We had a truck flip on a night convoy, too. Gunner was ejected and lost his PVS-14, as well as getting royally fucked up. The entire company ended up searching a whole day and deforesting a large section of the mountain for that thing. By the end, everyone was ready to pocket the motherfucker. Turns out, the HMMWV had rolled over them and buried them into the ground, so they were broken.
>>
>>29363431

Correct.

I'd actually feel more comfortable taking the ejector apart. I'm familiar. Plus it would isolate so the file doesn't go rogue. And I'd be able to better contain the filing dust

Cryptic BCG?

The handguard is gucci.

You've got some nice stuff man. I would seriously consider one of the binary trigger systems if they could be made more reliable.

You've got a Radical Firearms upper right? I went to their showroom today. It seems like they are doing good stuff, and they have a great warranty.

Hey guys, I'm new to rifles as I've never owned one. Due to increasing troubling times in the world, I've found the need to acquire one.

What would be the best budget AR-15 for under 900$, that also has a dust flap, forward assist, and is bored in .223/5.56?

Serious suggestions please. I'm all ears what what you guys suggest.

Pretty cool bro! Glad it stuck with you in a positive light. All I can say for sure is the fit and finish on mine is exceptional. The handguard seems very robust. I've got no loyalty to the brand - waiting for it to choke - but I'm keeping an open mind.

Sounds like you're pretty much already there, then.

You may need to buy an armorer's tool but the rest is fairly common stuff.

Yes. almost. But that twin verdex shredding the ejector isnt the concern, its them shredding and arresting the rear of casing.

the malfunction anon had from year ago with failzero was like

> be newbie with newbie built ar
> be at range fixin to shoot
> insert mag into unloaded gun
> pull n let go of ch
> aim
> fire
> blam
> clunk (not clack newbie didnt notice this)
> pull trigger
> click
> inspect
> bcg not in battery and rear of the casing is visible
> the rear of casing isnt into the cup inside of bolt but outside and all wrong like pic related.

This happened because when chambering round bounce its ass around few time as it approach fully chambered and this time it done got it ass caught by that two twin vertex.

Sorry slow response was just watching death wish 5.

Aaaand im resuming the movie.

Simplest way out is a Ruger AR 556. We have them for 649$. Good quality and a fine starting point for a custom rifle.

The Ruger is a fine gun but you can get a S&W M&P Sport II for less money online.

M&P's have been around for longer so I'd say they have a much better track record. My own M&P has been great for thousands of rounds as well.

I would order this to the FFL:

http://palmettostatearmory.com/psa-ar-15-complete-lower-magpul-str-edition-black-no-magazine.html

And then this to your house with the 1/7 twist option as well as phosphate BCG, mil-spec charging handle, and the end cap for the quad rail.

https://www.hardenedarms.com/ecProduct_188_27

After shipping and transfer costs you're looking at about $650.

You've got $250 left now for magazines, a sling, some sling mounts, some rail covers and maybe a front grip of some sort, maybe an ALG ACT trigger, and some sort of compensator. That $250 will get eaten up fast. I guarantee it.

Most importantly budget for a decent optic and lots of ammo to practice shooting with.

I suggest against the Ruger or the S&W simply because they come with fixed A2 front sights. To avoid the railed gas block meme simply get a free float setup from the start. Just my $0.02

This kind of malfunction often can be powered through if one have red coded spring+h2 and stronger combo plus gas system powerful to reliably cycle that.

You can experience similar malfunction just by pulling ch and riding the ch forward at various speed over and over it will happen but with some ar it wont. Guys be careful when doing this you dont want to ND.

Go try it. Its interesting. And when it happen from hand cycling it can be cleared by pushing forward assist or short pull n go of the charging handle.

Its all timing of round bouncing it ass around as it feed and it rarely happen while actual firing because the speed is faster (round dont have time to bounce its ass as extreme amount unlike slower rate of medium speed hand cycling) and the momentum overcome it easily.

its nice to know the cops claim they dont have enough evidence to bust his ass, even with him being caught on video carrying the fucker out of my apartment into his car, with the license plate clearly visible.

maybe i should just be a snitch for them, like him, his girlfriend who is cucking him with a guy who has hepatitis C and several other STD's, her baby daddy, and the guy she is cucking him with.

Look I'm completely open to the possibility that the two uppers that I have from Hardened Arms are pieces of shit. But I'm not going to take that proposition as true without some sort of evidence or reasoning, or at least a picture of the fucking gucci rifle that you own that might lend credence to your opinion.

To the anon looking to get an AR, quite reasonably considering the current political climate, you should consider Hardened Arms. They have free float quad rail complete uppers for quite a low price. >>
About guys arguing about whenever if hardened arm's good.

Keep in mind to this point i have done zero research and only like two thread on them came across me.

I do not recommend harden arm nor warn of harden arm but here's fact to me.

Unlike psa harden arm doesnt have enough guy shooting enough round out of it. Theres no rental machine gun shop or carbine class using harden arm to my knowledge. Meanwhile multiple machine gun rental shop and carbine class have psa and shot thousands after thousands not like average lightweight review of hardened arm of few box of ammo to one or two thousand of rounds psa have alot guy taking it well above 5k mark plenty past 10k.

But from what i saw on here the quad railed handguard that came with hardened arm use jam nut mounting method which's absolute bottom of barrel design BUT I have first hand experience with those. I used to own ar with at3 tactical branded potentially chinese made quad rail with same mounting method and it fared fine and is sound but i have never pushed its bound.

Although i did my personal favourite simple test of pinching the handguard and barrel to see how much handguard flex the less the stronger it is.

Oh and golly i have yet to come across freefloated handguard that flex more than that cheap shit.

Although i will do through research in them and return with my verdict.

But so far from small information i have on them i out them quite below PSA and equal to ATI
>>
>>29364850
Not to mention that psa is open about their supplier which have much longer good reputation.

Meanwhile hardened arm i dont know.

Muar! If you buy an MRO make sure you buy it from a place with a good return policy. Here is my experience with one:

It was my first red dot I had ordered so I was super disappointed when the dot was jelly bean shaped with a bunch of lines running through it as I thought I had a astigmatism. Even though my eyesight is pretty good. I returned it and got an ACOG.

A couple weeks later at the range a guy let me look through his rifle with an Aimpoint Pro on it. The dot was way more clear and crisp. It was also a lot smaller than the MRO dot which leads me to believe it isn't a true 2 MOA reticle.

I'm not sure if it was just my MRO or that they are all like that. So yeah I would just buy it from a place that doesn't charge a restocking fee incase it isn't something you expect.

Also before you have decided you want to keep it make sure you tape up the tip of the flat head screw driver when removing the battery lid. The anodization is really easy to remove.

Has anyone else had experience with the MRO?
