My new LWRC ICDI has some play in between the upper and lower.
I see online this is common to ARs and particularly LWRC due to them needing compatibility with Colt and FN lowers.
Its triggering my OCD like crazy but I know its supposed to be normal.

I wanted something with rail-capability, ambi safety, and overall high quality(as much as possible with limited options).
My choices in ARs are
• Colt LE6721 HBAR
• LWRC IC DI and M6IC (Pistons)
• Custom SS Billet Guns
• Windham HBC Carbine
• Build it yourself (but I am not 21 so no lower so that was an issue)
And overall I heard good things about LWRC and their IC series.
I just sold some guns to finally get a nice rifle in 5.56. And in store I didnt notice the play but at home I did and kinda panicked because no other guns I own have the issue.
If I can put an ACOG on it and it doesnt effect reliability or accuracy I will just try not to worry then.

Best thing to do is just live with it. For 95% of red dot shooting a little star effect won't hurt you at all, for precision work you should have the time to crank the brightness down a little. Good lighting/outdoor light should cut down on the effects of astigmatism though, at least it does for me.

Yes, the FFL's self-police and go by the MSP list of what is and isnt legal.
You have to get a legitimate HBAR-marked barreled AR. LWRC makes fluted HBARs so they passed the scrutiny. And also they are made in Cambridge MD so I think MD and MSP would lose alot of potential taxes if they banned MD-made firearms.

I've got play in between my Hardened Arms 10.5" and a PSA lower.
I've got zero play between my Hardened Arms 16" upper and Aero Precision lower.
So I handled one of those Cobalt Kinetics ARs today, the ones that look like space guns.

It honestly felt pretty good. The balance is spot on and the trigger is pretty damn fantastic. The ambidextrous forward assists are certainly interesting. There are literally two forwards assists, one on each side of the rifle. All in all though pretty memetastic.
I also went to the Radical Firearms showroom. Very nice people. They said they are 8 weeks out on production right now, and are finishing 200 rifles per day. I like the look of their forged lower and would buy one if the price were right, but they don't sell stripped forged lowers.
I also scored 3 used PMAGs at Full Armor Firearms, probably the most bad ass gun store I've been to in my entire life. The salesguy went through and checked the dates on about 20 of the PMAGs which were already in rifles to be sold. I got three, two black and one FDE, that are dated pre July 2013.

Hardened and radical are two different brands on the game garbage. My radical upper had the barrel nut torqued to at least 120ft/lb and didn't use shims like they were supposed do on that hand guard nut.
They also refuse to tell anyone who makes their barrels. The extensions have been known to come loose because they nitride them after the extension has been torqued down instead of before.

I have my upper a really good look when it came in. Determined a few things right off the bat:
the good
>There was *zero* play between the upper and lower (both Cerro forge)
>handguard features antirotation tabs so barrel nut/extension issues should be self correcting
>fit/finish on the upper components is tight and clean in general
the bad:
>does not appear to have any washers for the A2 flashhider (is this normal?)
>takedown pretty much require a tool - detents are quite snug
>no discernible gap between the gas block and barrel shoulder
All that said, my function tests went great. I specifically wanted to make sure the T2 buffer I had cycle fully (for BHO) with a full magazine (on principle). It has a midlength gas system which is why I wanted to be especially sure it cycled fully. Needless to say she ran without a single hiccup as I zeroed my buis and red dot
Definitely keeping a close eye on it, but goddamn it feels solid.
Got curious - I emailed them last night about the barrel manufacturer and vanadium content (listed as 4150V Chrome Moly I believe). Letcha know if I hear back

it really doesn't. I've been deer hunting with a $60 3-9x35mm scope for years and honestly I have never had a problem. I have also used a friends gun with a $1500 scope and it is a lot better but for me, nah.
maybe one day when I have more disposable income I will upgrade the scope but for now I like this setup.
