Take it from an old hand- do NOT NOT NOT get married. Do your job the best you can. Don't worry about anything else. All the bullshit you deal with on a daily basis has nothing to do with your long term life. Was .milfag then .contractorfag- don't think that anything you care about now is going to matter to you in 5 years. It won't.
>>
In the hotel at MEPS now. Leave for basic in the morning. Anyone else shipping?
>>
>>28341854
Where you shipping from?

>>28341707
Advice taken. No reason to get married at all now. From what I've heard it is much easier being single in BCT anyways.

>>
where's the tripfag navydepper?

I go to nukeschool as well, and I think i remember him saying that he was going there, he left sometime in September IIRC.
>>
How do you become a line medic as a 68w? Is there anything you can shoot for to strengthen your odds?
>>
>>28342190
difficult to say as that time is about 5 years from today, minimum.
>>
>>28342197
can anyone else confirm if he said he was going to nuke school?

There's a possibility he was part of the MASSIVE indoc of like 200 people.
>>
>>28342190
>Whats the best 35 series MOS to enlist in to get a private contracting job as an analyst afterwards?

Any of the analyst positions.

Though there is a significant difference in what you will do if you become an All Source analyst and what you'll do as a SIGINT or GEOINT analyst.

Also you'll need a degree. Hiring rules were changed while I was in, and people I knew who were contracting at CENTCOM were told to get their degree (at least 2 year degree) or they were going to be fired.

Also encountered that problem when I got out and got a job offer to go to Afghanistan as a contractor.

I'm doing asvab/meps tomorrow. Any advice, or is it basically "if you screw this up your a moron?"
>>
>>28341543
lol you done fucked up.
Better to be angry redneck with a gun and be at home, getting pussy (or at least so much more of a chance), than an expeditionary lackey redneck giving dutch rudders to your battle buddy.
>>
>>28342190

Depends on where you want to work. Q is probably the most in-demand if you get some experience/certs.
>>
>>28341854
Welp not leaving for basic today. Too fat. Recruiter's not even texting me back, can I try to join the marines after I've signed my contract with the army?
>>
>>28344273

You can back out and start over, but Marine fatbody standards are tougher than the Army ones so...

>>
I'm going to be 25 in April, /meg/. Is it worth trying to get into the military if I have no idea what I'm doing? Should add that I don't have a degree, or anything really.
>>
>>28344383
Can you really get away with lying about medical? What if you flopped on a medical bill and it's on your credit report? Speaking of credit reports, what can get you dq'd from enlistment in that area?
>>
Bunch of fags in this thread with their fancy acronyms n shit

I just wanted to let you guys know that I intend to be 11b and there is nothing you can do to stop me from inflicting this pain and suffering on myself.

I don't want the POG experience, nor the elite high-speed special operator experience, just a normal goddamn infantry experience.
>>
>>28344617
That's nice anon.
>>
>>28344617
Too bad. Everybody who's infantry gets to call themselves elite now. It's either that, or you're some kind of mechanised unit; they're isn't a need for "normal" foot infantry who aren't some kind of specialist.

Boy you sure sound like the kind of person the army needs. Not going to try anything hard just wanting to do the bare minimum.
>>

Why is this such a problem? Does the military not like keeping their hands warm?
>>

>the peacetime polish the dirt and gravel experience

Lol
>>
>>28344466

For the most part. It's not like they put you on the lie detector. They just try to intimidate you and confuse you into telling the truth, to weed people out.

Most recruiters tell joes to LIE LIE LIE about EVERYTHING, because they know its easy to get in and they want their money.

This brings up another point, the "I almost joined the army but i didnt make it past meps" fags. More like, "im a pussy and was afraid because you can literally join the army with severe clinical depression or very recently contracted AIDS"

A week before my ship date, my medical records were being QC'd and it turns out I have a condition I need a waiver for. I'm no longer in the Army Reserves as a DEP now since my original oath was invalidated since my medical examination is retroactively considered invalid. Now that I'm a free man again, I want to look over my options once more. I was in line to be a 35F in the Army and my line scores on the ASVAB were at least 130s across the board, but my issue is that I don't have a diploma or college credits, just a GED.

I'm looking for something intelligence or computer related that looks good on a resume for the FBI. I want to be active duty while I take college classes online. Does anywhere other than the Army or the Airforce (they require a GED or 10 credits) have an option that lines up with my goals?

take the asvab, if you don't do so hot, study and take it in a month.

your score will determine the next 4+ years of your life at the least, and possibly job opportunities after if you don't get a good MOS/rate. I got an 82 and I'm pissed I didn't wait a month and try again
>>
My recruiter is a nice dude and he's answering every question I can think to ask him, but it's been eight months and they still haven't cleared my medical file. He says it's just procedure, but I feel like someone's dragging their feet.

At what point should I just start pestering him, or just find a new sergeant to work with?
>>
>>28345620
Just go do some community college and go back to the Army. Best branch for cyber.
>>
>>28345903

what branch are you?
>>
>>28345930
Army. It took them two months to get me an ASVAB time on a day I could take it as well.

I guess I was just expecting to get sucked in and thrown into the military gears faster than I could think, like in the movies. Times have changed, if they were ever really that way.
>>
>>28345613
You sound like such a bitch for being an E-6. I bet you're proud of being in whatever leg division you're apart of.

>>28345958
My marine sgt has done everything as soon as I could give it to him, literally the same day or the next he has put it in.... might want to start pestering your recruiter and ask him.
that said, he has no control of what MEPS does, and I know that sometimes med paper work takes longer.

O, how times have changed.

If you do well in AIT, when you fill in your posting wishlist, fill in those locations where you know there are openings for a line medic. Even then, though, you can be sent to your posting and it's a support company or a hospital job.

That's as much as you can tip the odds in your favor without resorting to bribery. It's a bummer, but you're there to serve the Army. The Army is not here to serve you.

for medical iirc what the med recruiter told me you need to have the acceptance letter from the medical school and then theyll pay for it if you get accepted in the program
i might be wrong of course, wasnt really paying attention. i applied to surface warfare, we'll see what they say. supply i think you need an interview or something like that

>>

I heard the same but from an Army recruiter for the med program. I imagine they have a similar requirement.
Speaking of requirements, how much do you think that GPA minimum comes into play for the SWO program?
>>
>>28350371
CTN is top-tier cushy for a military job and has some of the best post-service prospects. Think about what you really want.
>>
Getting my bachelors in may, what's it like commissioning as an officer? I guess id want to be practical and go for intelligence or something similar, as I'd really like to get my masters after serving then trying for fbi/cia...But then again like every other guy the idea of going sf in any capacity makes my dick hard...any advice guys? I'm 26 and prolly 5/10 fitness wise.
>>
>>28350569
If you wanted to commission you should have started ROTC years ago. What's your GPA?

18X contract isn't hard to land if you want to enlist for SF, but you actually have to get through the pipeline.
>>
>>28350484
depends on your ASTB score, degree.
there is an adjusted gpa too that they do, like see how you did in your core classes.
whats your gpa/degree?
>>
>>28350648
Gotcha, glad I asked. So unlikely to commission.

My GPA is like 2.4, did well in classes related to my major but fucked my first semester up and some subsequent language classes, which I have since rectified. Regardless, its left my GPA in shambles. Also ironic considering if I wanted an 18 contract I would HAVE to become language proficient, which I'm OK with...

I guess it's worth noting also that I definitely have some undiagnosed knee issues...jumpers knee is guess. Would serving in a basic capacity fuck me...because I'm sure my body would be rough as fuck after serving sf.

Thoughts? Thanks also for answering.
>>
>>28350678
I got a 2.7 thanks to a bad run through OChem during a BS in Biology. If it weren't for that, I'd probably be going to med school directly.
>>
>>28350759
If your knees are already fucked then attempting SF is going to be a rough time.

Maybe take a look at enlisted intel/computer jobs and ride a desk into the sunset.
>>
>>28350759
Officer is not going to happen for you.

You could enlist as intel assuming you can score high enough. You'll never make it as 18 or 11 anything.
>>
>>28350783

Are you me?

Im not done with school yet, but that's my GPA, degree plan, and the exact reason Im joining the military after college
>>
>>28350783
shit dude did you fail them? I got a B and a C and aced the labs and frankly i just didnt study for the classes fuck ochem. anyway your degree since its stem might help but the biggest focuses are the gpa/degree and OAR scores for surface warfare. i'd talk to a recruiter and just do your best on the ASTB dude you have to destroy it. they take in a lot of NFOs and pilots but SWO selection is kinda low from what i read in the airwarriors site (bunch of fags)
but fuck how did just doing shitty in 2 classes fuck up your gpa so bad?

>>
>>28350783
You don't meet the minimums.
>>
>>28349382
Don't take my word for it but I hear that SWO is pretty much as hard as being a nuke.
>>
>>28350759
If you have knee issues, any kind of infantry or SOF job is going to be absolutely hell and you're going to put yourself in a wheelchair. With a 2.4 GPA I don't think you qualify for OCS and if you were already in ROTC you miiiight be able to hang on long enough to get a bottom of the barrel job. Sorry mate. As another anon said try checking out intel/computer desk jobs.
>>
>>28350886
Its kinda sad in a way.
Get into college thinking about med school, then reality happens. But I'm still sort of glad I stuck it through instead of switching into something softer like psych.

>>28350896
I really don't get my GPA either, all the courses I had a passion in (major classes) I got A's and B's but I guess riding the B-C line on everything else is what caused the tanking down into the 2s.

Being a pilot doesn't sound too bad. I've got the vision for it.
>>
I don't know yet what branch I want to do, probably AF or Navy, but I'm pretty sure I want to be an officer since I will have my degree. How much better is ROTC than OCS? Or is that just a meme? I'm a sophomore now and I know that joining before junior year is pretty much the ROTC deadline, and I don't know if I'll come to a decision before the end of the spring semester.
>>
Took the ASVAB today and got a 99. Thinking about going with the Navy Nuke program or SEALs. I'm in pretty good shape but heard if you fail out of BUD/S you get sent to the fleet as an undesignated sailor and have to peel paint and do menial work.

The recruiter also mentioned Special Boat Crew which sounds kind of cool. Anyone here ever been to school for that?
>>
>>28351090
its fucking easier dude just do it
>>28351076
you can try but if anything you can enlist and rock some crypto job, work on a masters then apply for ocs if you want to be an officer.
or try for pilot its like 10 years commitment though
>>
>>28351090
rotc is a guaranteed commission (reserve commission if you are low in you class) whereas ocs is much more difficult because you are competing with guys with years in service

if you want to join the military join ROTC now
>>

Army, and yeah, I'm finally running again since I hurt my calves. I've mostly just been cycling.
>>
>>28350826

Maybe fucked isn't the right word...both crack a shitload and I get strange discomfort/irritation in the left one. Strangely hiking will make them feel good the day after. Would seeing a doctor fuck me as far as enlisting because they can see whether or not I investigated the issue officially?

Also had a minor back injury when I was 14, nothing with vertebra but I was hurt for a year plus. I had a doctor suggest a brace but it never happened. Nothing sinse then with my back.

Just for clarity, is it my body holding me back or something else from what you've read?

Thanks to you both.

that's just a combat shirt, they are issued when you deploy, lots of air force guys have them with abu pattern who work on the flightline in theater. not anything real special or reserved for high speed ops. you can actually special order them from the clothing sales if you ask the clerk (source I worked at one before joining)

his unit could have just ordered them, its one of those items that is only authorized in the field like the boonie/sunhat so you won't see guys wearing them out and about

Just curious, as I may have some things questionable in my medical history. But the only thing you could see on my body is eyesight(I have contacts that correct to 20/20) and a scar from when I have a in-grown hair infection removed 10+ years ago. ADHD diagnosis like 4 years ago

>>
>>28345620
>>28345647
I know your pain bros.

I took the ASTB-E to be a Pilot in the Navy last March. Due to a small but otherwise innocuous complication that occurred while I was in the hospital for gallstones in August, MEPS has not yet accepted me (Ironically, they did after about 3 letters and all my medical records saying I haven't had asthma for 8 years, but I was hospitalized that same day. The irony is astounding.)

OAR = 56, then I got 6,5,5 for the actual pilot portion of the test.

I still have not heard anything about an acceptance since that complication (guidewire perforation in my small intestine, but nothing came of it).

I have begun looking at other branches (the Air Force) and private/public schooling for pilots.

Anyone have any advice on the matter.

I don't know how it is for the Marines, but set your goals and work towards them, and don't expect the Marines to get you there you're going to have to work for everything. If you get stuck being a grunt I pitty your soul. Paritcularly for a peacetime military.

At least in the Army you can be a Green Beret from the start of your contract almost, as your BCT/AIT/Airborne etc all fall in line and you go straight to SF selection. Unless you fuck up and get stuck being an 11 Bullet sponge for 3-4 years.

Cool good for you, you still wasted around 3+ years of your life. The military doesn't give a fuck about you, that time you burned you're not going to get it back. Time has no cost to it. In the time you served you could have just gone to college, and already be paying back your loans. And if you're not retarded or have rich parents you can get in for less money then your retarded friends anyway.

>>
>>28354548
>still wasted around 3+ years of your life
Considering military service rewards you with a golden resume, connection, and an appreciable opportunity to save money and see the world, I can hardly see how that time is wasted.

Is working at McBurgerking to pay off loans a better use of time? I have no idea what you're getting at.
>>
>>28354599
Pentagon said no.
>>
>>28354619
>rewards you with a golden resume
Thats generally wrong. And you're behind the reason for it. A lot of service members go into the normal job market ready to tackle their new job, not to learn from it. A certain percentage of employers will hire someone out of highschool over a vet. The reasoning is much larger but I will refrain from TLDR. Also a lot of "we hire vets!" campaigns ussually end up scamming them.

>connection
Really like what?

>appreciable opportunity to save money and see the world
I am in Korea right now. Of the OPSEC number of people in my company only a small percentage actually look at it that way. Nothing you said can't be done in the civilian world. Its time burned still.

> how that time is wasted.
Again, by accomplishing literally all the same things in the civilian world, and by being an adult, the tradeoffs are in your favor for being a civilian.

>Is working at McBurgerking
Why are you working at burgerking in the first place? We are talking about ways things can be better, not worse.

> I have no idea what you're getting at.
Most service members don't, most servicemembers also got done sucking their moms tits at the age of 17, and joined the military the next day. The number of "competent adults" I have seriously met in the army is alarmingly low. Greater than half, but the rest are kids.
