Add an Anderson lower from your local gun shop for about ~$70 and you're sitting pretty at $675. Spend $30 for three PMAGs and you're in business. $50 less and measurably nicer.

I don't know much about /k/ or ARs but I've grown up hunting and own multiple pistols, shotguns, and deer rifles.
My question is how hard is it to finish an 80% lower and build my own? I've watched some videos and found some jigs to purchase online.
I was just wanting to hear from some actually experienced people.
It seems like a super interesting project.

The entire point of an 80% is no FFL fee, no serial, and no roll mark.
Most big brands won't make 80%'s because then they don't get to advertise their brand on the side.

Some late E1s had fenced mag releases. It's not really worth arguing about unless you can see the buttplate and various markings.

Right after the change those, and other components the Army deemed necessary to change, were set aside for civilian (read; SP-1) production.

Not saying there was never an A1 with a three-prong, just that if you see what otherwise looks like an A1 without a cage hider, it's a safe bet to assume it's an XM16E1.

Aimpoint came too, but the mailman didn't leave it with the rail for whatever reason, so I've gotta pick it up tomorrow, and hopefully I can squeeze in a range trip to get it zeroed this weekend.

You put the rifle somewhere and then you spraypaint it. I don't even think he did multiple layers, it's all one color.

>>27793670
It's not a matter of if it'll fit, it's dwell time and general reliability. Midlength on a 14.5" already starts getting a little picky with ammo, 11.5" really increases your chances of gas issues with cheaper, lighter ammo.

I'd say it's a tossup between midlength and carbine gas at 14.5". Shorter should use Carbine, and longer should use midlength, at least in my opinion.

So basically I CAN build a 14.5" barreled AR as long as I've got a pinned muzzle device on it?

Does that mean I can never change the muzzle device or what?
>>
>>27793776
basically YES. iirc if you want to remove/change the muzzle device you would have to cut it off and re thread the barrel then pin a new device. i think gunsmiths do it
>>
>>27792837
I know that's a type of retro look but is it worth making the gun hard to use?

>>
>>27793776
You can, but you've gotta break the weld, and remove the pin, which if not done right can destroy the muzzle device.

Basically you can, but it's a big ol' pain in the ass, so choose right the first time.
>>
>>27793785
You are right but also kind of wrong.

Uppers are 100% unregulated, you can do whatever you want to the upper as long as it isn't attached to a non SBR/pistol lower until the OAL of the barrel has been returned to at least 16"

This is a retarded false narrative.

Nobody is putting out anything new, it's either similar to an AK/SIG, or it's similar to an AR18.

The only neat new stuff is in the bullpup world.

I think the deserttech carbine is really neat because it has a forward located mag release instead of a rearward located one.

It's the only one where you can drop mag and grab the replacement at the same time.
>>
>>27793869
I was making fun of the people that start threads about [insert new rifle here] being the gun that's gonna kill the AR.

Like a few months ago with the Sig MCx
>>
>>27793869
*in addition to a rearward one
>>
>>27793863
K2s aren't on the market, I only meant theoretically if they made a new one that had a flat top and some provision for AR handguards or something. (not sure how though, their barrels don't screw on)
>>
>>27793888
Ah, right.

So you can practice retention and non retention reloads with different releases if grab and rip tactical reloads are your thing but drop and grab empty reloads are also your ting.
>>
>>27793838
Sheeit, I could buy this and pin it on a 14.5" upper without getting a cückstamp?
>>
>>27793905
seems like it. It's 1.75 inches long, so that would push a 14.5 barrel over 16 inches

Is there a good way to cover up an engraved rollmark on a lower? For example could I use some kind of filler and then cerakote over the whole thing?
>>
>>27793674

if you have a carbine gas system with a 14.5" barrel, that will have more pressure than a carbine gas with a 16" barrel?
