Everyone next to me was clean and cool as fuck. The two guys to my right had good powerlevels and we had a great conversation about the past LA shows and our favourite albums and artists, while the couple to my left were very nice and complimented my hoodie.

I don't really get this type of thinking. If I didn't understand Japanese I would at least look up translations or subtitles of songs at least once to get a general idea of what they mean. There are many silly songs like PoPiPo that are like Gangam Style where the lyrics don't really matter, but there are also so many beautiful songs where a lot of thought is put into the lyrics to convey a message. For me lyrics are the most important part of song. I often discovered song that wasn't anything special, but I started loving once I read lyrics and relate to them.
In the same way I found songs that sounded nice and all, but I instantly disliked them when I learned that lyrics are about something I don't want to think about.
I listen to songs mostly for stories or particular messages. For majority of songs in my usual playlist I remembered what every single line of lyrics means.

Music isn't so one dimensional that words are the only means of conveying meaning or message. Visuals, body language, tempo, rhythm and tone, among others, can be much stronger carriers of meaning than truncated sentences alone - composers wouldn't write a book to use as lyrics after all.
Even if your understanding deviates from the vocals intended meaning, there's nothing wrong with having developed your own interpretation. It's actually a pretty nice feeling when you do feel inclined to translate it and find it's just as you thought it was; and if it wasn't? Well, you're now twice as invested. The problem with "westernizing" miku is that it's a fundamentally wrong approach to reach the mainstream western audience. You can tumblrify miku as much as you want, it won't reach anyone new. You want to reach American audiences? Have concerts with the producers and no miku projections, that's the only real way that you might reach them. That's why someone like Porter Robinson is considered acceptable. For people who actually want miku, give them miku.

I mostly blame him for actually expecting to be able to customize orders in Japan. He was vegetarian too, so I pretty much gave up eating with him during that trip.
Okay so LA was fantastic. I was an hour north of LA and had forgotten about the concert entirely (no moneys) when, about 1.5 hours before the show started, a girl posted on social media on my school anime club that she had 3 free tickets and parking passes, ($400+ value). Each ticket was $130 and we were front and center, behind the pit.
Always. Fucking. Lucky.
So anyway that was my first anime-related concert of any kind. Have been out of the scene for a couple years but that experience totally thrust me right back in harder than I ever was.
Tons of cute girls, got a number but had to go because friend was a ride. Next time I'm going early and staying late for all the hot professional asian girls, totally different demographic than I expected.
I was the buff, curly-haired guy in a Miyazaki-related shirt just a couple rows behind the pit, front and center, if anyone was around there. I had my phone recording pretty often. Fantastic show. Everything was great.

The skinny Asian guys having religious experiences were really entertaining. Several were shouting out adoration like South Americans at a visiting Pope.
