Yeah, once I realised the reward was too far away it drained motivation to keep tapping at guild war. Rather, SenPro in general wasn't giving me anything once I finished story - farming youkai girls and doing all that clicking to feed existing units didn't feel rewarding. Well... We don't publish mobile or browser games.
We focus on Steam/Consoles.
Supposedly the CEO or Founder or something wants to get /any/ type of game on Nutaku, but Tom (the bizdev guy) wants to stick to Japanese games.
So expect to see more stuff like Big Bang and that superhero game, alongside potential downloadable titles in the future.

We did get to talk to multiple Japanese, Thai, and Korean companies about publishing their mobile/browser games.
If we partner with Nutaku then we have a viable way to publish for our new potential international clients.

Congratulate him on getting off to a good start with FKG, ask whether the first event will be Lavender or if they will have another order (this will be much more telling than just asking whether the game will be censored).

Ask about the situation with Aigis and whether it's possible for them to get the missing characters added back into the game, since Dev Tea evidently won't do it unless they get asked first.

Mention the bad response to their EN-exclusive characters (which is entirely justified, the scoliosis elf is bad art but I can at least acknowledge that her artist tried, but Silly Girl is utterly inexcusable and was almost certainly a "we'll put your shitty OC in our game if you shill for us" kind of deal) and ask about the possibility of releasing EN-first characters/events, which would be drawn by JP artists and released to the JP version later on. Deine more or less ended up this way in EN Aigis and nobody complained about her, so I think this is the best way to make EN-exclusive content.

Information about any of these three points would be very welcome, though I'm mostly interested in FKG. Thanks for dropping by, I'm looking forward to hearing what news we'll get.

I had a ton of things I wanted to ask Nutaku about how they do their business, how adamant they are to get the best each game has to offer as quickly as possible, or how they feel about Dev Tea going dark not mentioning about the new characters or how the events are sparse for now specific reason.

The simplest question to ask is when and how they plan on making improvements to Aigis. And I must emphasize "improvements" being "things that the community actually wants", like:
-missing units that have been supposedly greenlit for ages
-"fixing" Liana
-updating the trading post
-a consistent event schedule
-revivals
-actually having seasonal rewards outside of Black Friday

And so on.

Might also want to mention serial codes as a way of compensating us for the shit we put up with in the first year.

Chizuru's awakening skill has her attract projectiles and gives an 80% chance to dodge them for 30 seconds and decreases her block by 1.
When I decided to level a Samurai on DMM, I went with Chizuru because Momiji was a unit I got from a gold rush, so she was at her initial cost. It really wasn't worth it to level her at the time. Right now, I would still lean toward Chizuru, but it would be a harder choice
At max Chizuru has more at HP(+288), Attack(+36, and thanks to Momiji's awaken ability, her attack speed drops), and a lower Min cost(-3)
The only thing Momiji has over Chizuru is Defense(205). Which makes sense in a way. Since Chizuru pretty much needs her skill to survive. Arrows will tear her apart otherwise, even with her high HP.
Lastly, Momiji can boost her attack to over 2700 with her AW skill, but frankly, the side effects when it stop is a bit of a demerit. Definitely for fitting a mid boss or something.

Generally speaking, how tough are second week maps for star trials, compared to the first?

Thanks to Elune and Metus I finally got past the 50/5 bottleneck, and the kami level shouldn't be too hard to 2* with the same strategy, so I'll have 13 stars for this first week. How easy will getting to 22 for mincost Sukuha be?

They tend to be harder on average, but that's also because they skip on the beginner/intermediate tier maps usually on the second week. So don't count on too many easy-mode stars.

The best way to tell the difficulty though is usually by looking at Stamina costs. The current God-Tier is only 6 stamina and was easier than usual, especially considering that this is a Trial Event which are normally harder than usual maps.

Long story short, be prepared for 2 maps harder than the current God-Tier. Getting 22 stars will probably be hard for you if you got bottlenecked on 50/5.

I might be able to 3* either 50/5 or 70/6 if I rethink my strategy, too, since I only leaked 3 enemies in the former and the tigers are slow and continue spinning for some 8 minutes in the latter.

I was hoping we would get a delicious chocolate-brown onee-san because they like adding season-appropriate flowers (Fir/Mistletoe/Saintpaulia/Christmas Rose for Christmas, Nandina and Pine for New Year's and so on) and it doesn't get any more appropriate than cacao for Valentine's, but Sinclairiana looks amazing too.

Also, she comes out maxed when you enter her serial code, so you no longer need to buy multiples of a book to raise her skill and slots.

No, the conifers we have are Pine, Fir and Hinoki (a cypress, and the sole conifer we had for the first ten months of the game), and there's also a Ginkgo in the non-angiosperm department. Here's a rather old chart for the distribution of flowers in the game, if you're interested (and I now realize that Eucalyptus is upside-down, sorry about that).

That said, FKG devs take care to even out their plant representation, so we'll most probably get one sooner or later. Their sole limitation is that they only include plants that have flower meanings (so Rafflesia is unlikely despite being a fan favorite, since it has no traditional flower meaning, though I think the first LN had a pitcher plant on the enemy side so they might go that route as well), but there's one for spruce ("hope in adversity") so you're on the safe side here.

I'm personally waiting for another bug-using flower like Fig (wasps), Yucca (moths) or the aforementioned Cacao (flies), since we're told that not all bugs went insane and some are still retained in nature preserves. Though well, bug rabies is apparently contagious too, so there's probably good sense in not using them in the war effort (Oncidium should take care where she's swinging that poor Maidoari).

And they clearly are the fast shooting ones in the revival. I guess when porting the eng version the devs copy pasted all the latest enemy stats over (which will explain the why we got the revival red dragon as well) without bothering to balance anything, so eng version ends up getting the revival strength enemies instead of the event debut ones.

As for dmm pirates revival, I guess they still had their old event data lying around (which includes unit data) and simply just copy pasted it into the revival event section so they ended up getting the original version of the event again.

i start with Jerome and Katie blocking the first wave, then gold+ healer, prince in the backline, then two witches or plat+ archers to help the soldiers out, a second healer, then i place a Heavy next to prince in backline, then i replace the soldiers with ollivie and sybilla and withdraw the range units if neccessary, replacing them with mages.

Estimating that over half of their playerbase are premium, which implies they spent at least one dollar- Nutaku has made at least a solid million in a year.

This is a large number, at least for a new company, but a small number compared to many established distributors/platforms.

Met Tom again and now David, the Product Manager for Nutaku at GDC.

1. Aigis isn't shutting down soon. He looked stunned that I would even imply it would and asked me where I heard that.

He went on to go to address Aigis' event schedule. Supposedly Nutaku has no input. They only act as a portal/distributor.
The devs are the ones that make all the decisions.
Hate eng Dev Tea, not Nutaku.

2. I asked about FKG event schedule. He said most devs follow the DMM schedule as closely as possible unless there are "specific reasons" like weak events.
Once again though, they leave it up to the developer.

Well, Lavender is about the best event character there is (alongside Edelweiss, Hypericum and Oxydendron) so let's hope that they'll stay true to their word and not let censors get in their way. If they have to skip events, they'll probably skip Lechenaultia and Rainlily because these two came with popularity contests that resulted in the addition of new versions for some characters (Oncidium/Cactus/Camellia for the first and Lycoris/Anemone/Nadeshiko for the upcoming second). Or maybe we'll have actual English versions of these events, complete with new character additions, if FKG gets popular enough in the West. Who knows?

Still, it's great to hear that FKG devs have near-full control of the game, since they're known to be an excellent team over the DMM side (and rightfully so, this is the team who dismantled an entire event mechanic in a few hours just because their players didn't like it).

During Calla's event, about half a year into the game. In that event, there were two sets of maps (Wind Valley and Deep Forest) and the event gimmick was a Kancolle-style locking mechanic where the girls you sent into one would be unavailable for the other. This was back when most people were just finishing up their main squad, so a lot of players thought this was too much at the time (especially since it was a medal collection event, so you had to take down all maps instead of just farming one). About half a day after the event was released, FKG had an emergency maintenance in response to player outcry, and the locks were removed.

This was not the first time they had responded immediately to player feedback, they had another emergency maintenance after the second event (for Edelweiss) because the last map had swarms of three beetles that absolutely demolished the low-level teams most everyone had at the time (these were brought down to one beetle per node). They also did a lot of additional user comfort updates, like the ability to autosort teams by attack/defense/speed etc., changing the overworld character manually (it used to default to your team 1 leader), turning sprites/pausing sprite animations in the garden, fast-forwarding raid boss fights, preventing girls from attacking already dead enemies (and preventing solar drive from going off when all enemies died), auto-solar drive in special raid boss battles, adding equipment locks, buffing up a bunch of awfully weak single-target skills, allowing you to get raid boss recruitments by clicking the home button (you previously had to feed characters/affection items one by one to do that) and so on.

I've been singing hosannas of FKG devs in these threads, but they really do deserve their reputation.

Speaking as a publisher- you are limited by contracts.
For instance, I do design consultation work for my company as well.
I.E. I play our games and work with our developers to assure that the games are actually good.
If not then I work with the developers to change the game and make sure they are fun and also contain great retention mechanics.

However- we can't force them to make changes.
If we signed a contract with a developer and they turn out to be a massive douche, we can't force them to change their games as per our contract, we can just make recommendations.
In theory we can speak with them about dropping their contract, but that is a whole other beast.

Does Nutaku care? Have they been trying?
I have no doubt. Tom and David seemed very enthused.
However, business is a battlefield.
Office politics are intense, especially between two companies.

I mean, you guys also might be right, but if they've lobbied for autocomplete who knows what else they might be doing in the background.

I understand that much, which is why I've cut them some slack lately, given their recent "all girls are totally 18+" and gradual improvement in some of their other games (namely Saga and Kanpani). It's still frustrating to not see them take any (observable) action though.

I don't regularly use dancers but I don't think I've seen a ranged spot that was 12 range away from someone else that would require Hana, versus just picking a closer spot for her and letting whichever displaced ranged unit deal with it.

Their JP fanbase is the only fanbase they had so far, and they've repeatedly went out of their way to cater to them. We have no reason to assume that they'll decide to screw over the EN version out of nowhere, and the fact the FKG has an early video and a preregistration page shows that they do care about their foreign audience (possibly to a greater extent than other games, since FKG is apparently the first Nutaku game to have a preview page and bonuses).

You have to keep in mind that Dev Tea is the outlier here, other teams are perfectly fine with having regularly scheduled events in their games and Kanpani devs even made EN-exclusive dungeons to get people started. As for the necro tokens, if you don't have good burst, it will be useless; If you don't have a good burst, you'll need a good sponge. So if you already have a good burst, it will make necromancers easily replaceable. Anyway there a tons of ways to finish those maps already, but you are wrong in saying that the necromancers are the definite counter to the golems....remember that AW enchanters have access to one of the best tanks in the game too.

This doesn't compute. If tea makes all decisions, how nutaku knows "aigis is not shutting down soon"? Tea could pull the plug any time and nutaku could do nothing about it.

It's quite fast to load, in my experience.

Combat is decently fast too (zoom out a bit if it slows down for you), and there are several options to make it faster (a toggle for fast attacking in maps and a button for fast-forwarding raid boss combat). You also don't necessarily need to take an active part in it, so you can easily clear maps by keeping them in the background and advancing once in a while.
