This thread is for the discussion of untranslated Japanese visual novels.

What are you playing? What are you looking forward to? What have you finished? You know the drill.
>>
>>14557144
Did Asuta write this?
If Takashima did anything more than write a few lines I'm not playing this.
>>
>>14557164
Asta wrote the two main routes. If you don't want any takashima, don't read his routes.

Finished Hikari's route in Miagete and it was surprisingly normal.
I'll do Saya next but I expected something a bit more interesting from Asuta
>>
>>14557144
Just finished WA2 Introductory Chapter and really liked it. The story is pretty good and the soundtrack is really nice. The problem though is that I took an eternity to finish it. I was reading faster by the end of the game, but it makes me believe that I should put CC away for a while.

btw, is mahoyo hard to read? I was thinking of tackling another short game before I dive into the endless ones.

Thanks
>>
>>14558310
If you need to ask, it probably is. Also, 1.24 MB isn't short.
>>
>>14558321
Wa2 introductory chapter is 0.5MB while closing is almost 7 times longer.

>>14558310
Mahoyo is pretty hard yes. If I were you I'd save it for when you have a much better grasp of the language.
Please don't respond to this because arguing about "eroge language difficulty" is completely pointless.
>>

The writing was OK but I just can't give a shit about mimesis and aestheticism, it's spooky as fuck. I've posted about it in the thread before, but I really enjoyed Kokoro Risuta. The text just felt very "smooth" and was enjoyable to read, the art style really appealed to me, and it had a great voice cast.
It definitely wasn't what I was expecting from the first title in 6 years from a brand I'd never heard of before, and I only downloaded it originally because Shimizu Ai was in it as she's one of my favorite VAs.

So I chose Alice's route first in Monobeno, and am on the after route now. Just passed the 精算 part, and they are talking to Himemiya in loli form.

The reason for the problems that occurred is being explained, and I'm not sure if this is a spoiler for Sumi/Natsuha routes. Is it fine to do the after routes before doing all the routes normally? Or have I spoiled myself by doing so?

Also, so many lolis in Alice's after route. They needed to find a way to put in some loli Alice sex, didn't they it seems. Not that I have any complaints.
>>
>>14562933
Personally I reached the end of common route recently. I'm still deciding if I go Sumi or Alice first, but everyone says Alice is the least good, so I'll probably get it out of the way first.

Really hyped for Maitetsu, but I fear with the extreme about of e-mote, it might not run well on my notebook. I was told that they'd optimize it more than e-mote VNs usually are, so I have hope. We'll when the trial comes out.

Finished Alice's after route now. Didn't expect it to go as far as them having a child and getting married. It'll make things tougher when going to Sumi's route, maybe I should leave a day or two before starting it.

I feel like the title screen changing spoils some of it, since it shows child Natsuha hugging Sumi's child? At least in that case it'll feel happier than Natsuha sleeping for 7 years. Would have been better if it didn't display that until after Sumi's route, since now I know what to expect from the end.

Well, the title of the game having -happy end- in it spoils that aspect anyway, I suppose.

>>
>>14568715
Routes themselves aren't boring is what I can say, heroines are interesting (one has split personality disorder iirc) but the pacing is too fast in some moments. I liked the protagonist and star-crossed lovers theme, soundtrack and CGs are also good. H-scenes were a complete disaster for me though, badly timed, poorly done. If you wanna play it do it for the story and not for the fap.
>>
>>14568753
To be honest in most VNs I skip through the H scenes when I'm reading and then fap to them in a separate session. Or just to their CGs sometimes.

I think a similar thing was once asked in this thread and most people said they skip through H scenes most of the time too.
>>
>>14568759
Then it's a good option to do that in うたてめぐり. Game is really good overall, I'd say read it and see for yourself, it won't be a waste of time imo.

I don't see how "simple moege" can hold a depreciative meaning there though. Or actually, I see it, and I think it's pretty dumb.

Yeah. The only thing not outright crazy he wrote and I loved is still that Hayami After in H2O, and that was already going overboard. I'll continue to dream about Moekan 2 and 陰と影 on any case, even if Sca-ji pretends it doesn't exists, and even if it is more impossible than ever due to the recent success.
Frankly, I think he makes way less errors writing nonsense than anything else. Nonsense here being a witty joke if y'know what I mean.

Can you please recommend to me a game I could play after?

Just wait for Zero escape 3 and Punch line if you want more console sci-fi and thriller VN.

Is this actually good? I remember the Anime being terrible. Is it worth a try for sca-ji?

This? Uchikoshi is working on it, will it be good?

How was the anime?

I thought only EOPs were looking forward to it 999 was mediocre and Zero Escape was extremely bad

>>14572781
As an anime it was colorful and the characters weren't bad but Uchikoshi just can't write, he just used the same twists for the 4585472times again

Probably not. The only things Sca-ji noticeably wrote are the After Stories of Hayami and Otoha, and some parts of AaA (mainly the joke mini-game where the heroines play poker with the protagonist possessed by Baphomet). Everything else is pretty horrible, sincerely speaking. It was like there was some sort of agreement that every writer should try to copy Nijuuei/Moekan's abuse of short sentences and repetition into every dialogue, making worse something which wasn't already that good, so a lot of conversations would take a loop on the same matter with monosyllabic lines half the game. And the plot itself was pretty inconsistent.
Still, Hayami yuri H-scene in that After is still one of the best things I've ever read and was worth it for me. Otoha's isn't so good but it has this scene and other details (references) which denounces the writer.
>>
>>14573643
Moekan references, I meant.

How long is the Chuusotsu trial?

I never played Zero Escape but it's amusing how it got praised in the west and trashed by critics in Japan. Same as Tactics Ogre sequel, which again was trash (and rightfully called for being trash, getting 2-3/5 stars on Japanese review aggregators) and praised by English reviewers. I do wonder why.
>>
>>14573983
*remake
>>
>>14573983
Don't forget Fire Emblem if.
>>
>>14573993
For Zero Escape it's just people who aren't familiar with Uchikoshi who fall for his trick.
I'm sure people here other than me can understand, 10 years ago when I did Ever17 I did shit bricks, now I'd probably be bored as hell and I thought Zero Escape was pure shit but yeah...

For LUCT there is the fact that the english script is better than the japanese one (talking about the remake on psp here).
I know it may be hard to believe but it's true, I read quite a bit of comparison and while the english script has flair, the japanese one is generic as hell.
LUCT isn't bad game but gameplay-wise it has a lot of problems but the cool script in the english version make it seem much better than it is really, the japanese version doesn't have that so it just feel like a proto version of FFT in the end.

>>14573996
If has some of the worse writing I saw in a game in 2015, like even worse than Tokyo Xanadu
But the gameplay, for a FE, isn't bad, better than Awakening at least
>>
>>14574018
Tokyo Xanadu is another can of worms.

I liked it at first, cause I didn't yet play many games with similar premises or read similar LNs, but in the end it got tedious, characters got under-utilized (or over-utilized like Rion) and there was no interesting twist at all. And you couldn't even romance a girl of your choosing.

I guess for someone who already played a game like that, TX must have felt meh from start to finish, but I liked it a lot at first, which only made my final impressions worse.
>>
>>14574018
>For Zero Escape it's just people who aren't familiar with Uchikoshi who fall for his trick.

Exactly, not having porn helped a lot too.
>>
>>14574047
I didn't dislike the LN のり in the first few chapters but the game quickly turned to characters spouting LN catch phrases ad nauseasm while having no personality of their own
Like after the first few chapters every dialogues is:
girl "(small laugh)....LN catchphrase"
guy "やれやれ。。。LN catchphrase"
And this repeat forever
>>
>>14574018
I found Ever17 boring and zero escape fun.
>>
>>14572781
I really enjoyed the Punch Line anime, the real plot don't start till episode 6 though. And it gives you an ending that will make you look forward for the game. It's by no mean better than Ever17 or Zero Escape but it's defintily something only Kotarou Uchikoshi can write. If you do enjoy Uchikoshi works or even like Ghost Trick on the DS, I highly recommend this for you. Also the game will be the first collaboration between Uchikoshi and Nakazawa Takumi since Remember11 back in 2004.

Are trial versions really long, generally? I haven't ever tried one, and I just saw I just a *26* part playthrough video serious on youtube for a 体験版. Each part is 20-30 minutes so that's about 13 hours of VN. That blows my mind. I'm referring to this:

Sure, if you leave it on a slow auto mode like that, it's going to take a long time to get through anything. If you're actually reading at a normal speed, trials are typically a few hours. It varies, though. Sakura no Uta's trial was pretty long, for example (since it was essentially two trials in one - the old trial from 2008, plus new content).

The way the story develops reminded me of WA2 a lot but of course it's not even remotely as dramatic.
First of all the girls are completely different and more importantly they are friends so "dealing with the loser" is actually an important part of the story (imho the best scene of the game is about that).

Also the love triangle only develops if a certain misunderstanding is solved. If you make a different choice romance with Hikari and Saya is "postponed" until Hikari comes back but in the meantime MC falls for the other 2 girls (and Saya cries ;_;).
Basically Saya want fair competition with Hikari while Setsuna wanted to forget about Touma.

Finally just finished 塔の下のエクセルキトゥス. I killed last boss in just one turn, what the fuck seriously.

Ending was pretty idiotic and simple, as every part of the game. Mc just said something obvious > everyone become like OMG WOW WHAT A GREAT IDEA > every problem got solved > ending. Man at least solve Elpis & Marianne's immortality problem like that as well, but they didnt even bother with that.

Other than this I still feel same as my other post, though character events gets a little better as you play the game. Marianne & Riko & Klarissa's character events were really good at least. It'd be so better if there were more events for them, and less for others.

And thats it I guess, in short its just a waste of great potantial. With a little better writer / scenario this'd be a hit for sure, since it already has great character designs & VAs and hot h-scenes.
>>
>>14578011
This is Astronauts, they are making glorified nukige with gameplay, don't ever expect good story from them.
>>
>>14574454
Last Cavalier is pretty good, too. Especially if you like historical drama or something of that nature.
A shame that there aren't any 3some ending with Isa and Sei. Like almost every routes end with 2 main heroines of that route sharing Soushi, except what can probably be consider the two main heroines. Well, it's kind of expected with how the MC died like in history but I really wish there is an ending for him to be alive with those two.
>>
>>14578269
How long is it?
>>
>>14578278
Around 30-40 hours maybe.
>>
>>14578033
Its really a shame, It had many good points imo like having a light hearted (but not a completely joke) fantastic setting just as I like, Great art, Good VAs, Nice character designs and personalities etc etc. But not having a good writer just wasted all away.
>>
>>14578438
The writer is not the guy you should blame.
>>
>>14578466
Why? or should I blame Astronauts itself for not hiring a better one? I dont really see any difference between those, since in the end the biggest problem of the game -having a bad writer- doesn't change.

I understand the new crit approach but the fact is that regardless of the writer they put to work in this game, the setting and story would never "be used to its full potential", simply because they would not allow it.

I liked it. If you have an aversion against casual sex (with non-heroines), you should stay away though.

Also, kachou the cutest.
>>
I don't know why so many VN producers think it's a good idea to mix over-the-top moe anime girls and warfare, I really think it just don't work, trying to mix moe with war, you get ridiculous stuff like this. I can't take it seriously.
>>
>>14579856
>If you have an aversion against casual sex (with non-heroines), you should stay away though.
Definitely true, that was the entire reason why I didnt enjoy it and not going to try full version. There are even some h-scenes for the girls who dont have character sprites, its just not my thing.
>>
>>14579856
Does it feel like a nukige? EGS says it is but I never trust that.

>>
>>14579883

>>
>>14580727
Maybe if you heard the ultra grim music playing you'd understand. Cutie moe girls saying "ban!" instead of shooting, as grim as hell music plays, and the CG zooms in on a moeblob face? Not getting into the war mood at all.

Though recent developments are doing a lot better of a job getting into the war mood. At the time I posted that, it had been non-stop moe for the whole game just about so it was really.. out of place.
>>
>>14580737
Have you tried 群青の空を越えて instead
>>
>>14580763
I did! Great game, that one really captured the mood well I think, a lot of the time. And it had side characters. It's always weird to me that modern games tend to have so few side characters. It always makes the world feel incredibly empty even if it's at a bustling school.
>>
>>14579883
>I don't know why so many VN producers think it's a good idea to mix over-the-top moe anime girls and warfare
Probably because Catch 22; one of the best novel of the last century, mix moe and war
Spoiler: life and war often isn't as serious as you think, if anything the army of any nation is always full of ridiculous people
>>
>>14579856
Thanks, going to try that out
>>
>>14580827
I hang out on the internet and read enough stories from ex-military to know war isn't universally serious. However, this VN is really really taking it dead-on serious, the music in this scene + the VA's grim deadpan + the MC himself telling his friends to stop laughing because this is the MILITARY and this is SERIOUS and those girls will be going to FIGHT and possibly DIE show some RESPECT... with all that going on, how can there not be contradiction with the moe girls who up until this point have mainly just been joking around with MC and being cute?
>>
>>14580900
Maybe because they are just kids who didn't see war for real yet?
It's one thing to tell you that you are in a war and will maybe die, it's another thing to experience it

I don't think there is an inherent contradiction in fusing moe/comedy with war personally, it all depends on how you do it and if they are still in training phase I can see them caring about things girls their age care about
>>
>>14579883
Mixing moe with anything serious is a recipe for disaster.
>>
>>14580933
Sure. The end result though is a pretty hard mood whiplash, for me anyway. I said in my original post, "over-the-top moe", not moe in general; I mean, I really liked Catch-22 and that was a thoroughly well mixture of comedy and war. It can be done. But I've yet to see a game mix "anime level" of moe with war and not come out as looking pretty ridiculous, a lot of the time.
>>
>>14579919
Not really. It's more slice of life (just with work environment instead of a typical school setting) than a nukige. It's not exactly a barrage of ero. Be aware that only applies to the trial though, since the full game is supposed to have 50+ h-scenes, so dunno how that turns out in the end.
>>
I think ero is really holding back the potential of eroge. This medium could be so much more.
>>
>>14582191
How does it feel to break the two hours of mature silence with an equally stupid post?
>>
Did anyone else who played Gun Knight Girl be surprised by the OST? I think it's really high quality, I was glad whenever a track started playing, any of'm, because they're all so good. >VII Cross Channel as a Christian Story

>In Cross Channel, Taichi and seven(?) other people survive the Wave of Denpa that wiped away mankind, together with all the animals they brought with (only the microorganisms inside of them).
>The parallel is direct and inescapable: the basic storyline of Cross Channel is based directly on the Biblical story of Noah and the Great Flood. And this, finally, allows to show what I consider the greatest troll of the story, greater than even not being sci-fi at all: being post-flood means the story is literally pre-apocalyptic, as the Book of Apocalypse would be yet to be written, or at the very least come true at that point in Biblical history.
>In fact, the Apocalypse - or the literal coming true of the prophecy within - is what Taichi is waiting for in the end.

How do you feel about this interpretation of Cross Channel? Do any of Romeo's other works suggest he writes from a Christian perspective?
