The goat legs are kind of wonky. The tibia should be much longer, and the metatarsal bones should be much shorter. Also, the arms seem kinda long to me.
Other than that, though, she looks like a qt.
Its my first sketch (literally ever), I know its shit, and I know I need Loomis. Working on that now, but I really wanted to draw somthing for fun.

It's actually not super shit if that's really your first sketch. Your name issue seems to be poportion and perspective.
You can get good at this. Fix that shit
>>2415606
You took a shadowy, misoriented photo using your phone, so it's impossible to critique the art.
>>2415643
The scratchy line is not definitive, it's a scribble.
>>2415650
Attack on titan person here. I'm having line control issues due to trembling in my hands. I'm going to go redo the linework with the line tool. The mess in the middle is Annie crystalizing Mikasa.
>>2415658
(I'm the person who drew the goat-thing)
>>2415658
Don't bother redoing the linework until you practice figure drawing fundamentals. I suggest the figure drawing video series on proko.com
https://youtu.be/74HR59yFZ7Y?list=PLtG4P3lq8RHGuMuprDarMz_Y9Fbw_d2ws
If you spend time inking a crappy drawing, you just end up with a crappy inked drawing. You won't be able to fix the major mistakes while putting in a line layer.
>>2415669
Will do. Thanks.
is it difficult to transition from paper and pencil to a tablet?
Almost done with this, going for a really stylized look. Any feedback?

that axe is way to big that would be super heavy try studying loomis so you understand these amateur errors

I'm pretty sure that the axe is obviously too big to be wielded. It's done purposely.
Then again, not sure if b8 or just /ic/ dickery

WIP of a full portrait and not just a loomis head. This is my first attempt at a big shaded portrait digitally so I am not used to the workflow and relying on traditional pencil-like brushes rather than digital tools. I am just scanning around fixing random things and cleaning up edges when I notice them. Feel like I'm about 50% done.
Just finished this moments ago. Thoughts?
>>2415793
Not sure if this is from a reference but the features are asymmetrical, suggesting no construction of the head prior to drawing them, and the pencil lines are really wide, suggesting that you drew this small on the paper. There's only the minimum of shading and it's only on some features and not others, and the hatch marks are too sporadic to define the volumes.
Try drawing larger to fill the whole paper, and use a good reference. Build the head and features from shapes and choose a light source to help shade the volumes methodically.
>>2416070
sorry, heres the resize.
>>2416074
Looks nice, lots of good detail on the cloth and armor and the anatomy seems fine.
The biggest problem right away is the lighting. The light source appears to be the sun behind him, yet the lighting on the figure is inconsistent. The armor and cloth, and the cast shadow of the head suggests a light source above and to the left, but his face and hand is fully illuminated by a strong close light directly above.
>>2416072
>>2416078
thanks, here's the reference I used for the face. do you think my lighting problem could be solved by just erasing the sun?

even if the axe did work, having it be there simply kills composition. Also. Its really cluster (like why would she have a wooden foot as well of all the other things we have to pay attention to.) and you're abusing of big shapes on your designs.
Am I better than my art teacher or am I going crazy??? Like what is that and how is that in her professional portfolio?
Anyway, one on the left is mine, first serious nude study from life, probably around 15 minutes. I didn't put nearly enough time into construction, fucked up the hip and head. Do you guys have tips on getting construction down quickly and accurately without being laborious about it? Also, please forgive chicken scratch, working on it.

moved arm up and defined forearm
knuckles of the hand curve inward

That's not bad at all. Really nice. For a timed live model the detail is impressive. The hair is hastily shaded but that's no big deal.
Photobashing a car for a client. I painted the thing out in black and white first and now I'm adding photobashed details (like the bumper).
>>2415712
The coloring and shading shows some talent, but the highlights on the arms and boot are off. The hand on the hip is too large and the leg and boot are misshapen.
Scale back the axe. It's way too large even for comic effect. If you want a huge axe maybe make the handle as long as she is tall and it would still be impressive.
Add a background of some sort, even just a warm or cool grey. It helps to not have a white background for choosing colors, since nearby colors determines the relative value of the other colors.

Been trying my hand at digital painting. Yeah, dude, you need to go back and practice anatomy, it looks like you put a lot of time into polishing this drawing, but it would really be a time better expended doing some studies.
It won't look bad for a layman like this anon >>2416487 but everything looks plastic, his pose is too stiff, his face emotionless, the painting and values are flat, the rendering is borderline pillowshading, and it's specially bad zooming in, where you can clearly see some blurry parts juxtaposed with some unexplicably sharp pixels.
Study anatomy, gestures and figures, form and values. Also next time research armor references, don't try to create them from scratch, and decide where your light is coming from instead of shading wherever feels right.

>>2415712
it's interesting!! it's cool that you're playing around with stylization and exaggeration, just remember that if you're going to make one thing really crazy all the other elements should be pretty crazy too. in this case, while you've got a fuckhuge axe, the girl's proportions are all fairly normal, or they don't really compliment the axe well enough, at least. i would play around with the girl's design a bit and really try and push her attitude and proportions a bit to sell her character, right now she's sort of just a generic viking. increase the helmet size! lengthen the horns! exaggerate her gloves and armour! just play around with exaggerating one or two of her features and see what comes out of it.
also, although a giant axe can be fun, exaggeration doesn't just mean increase the size by 300%, lol! it should still look reasonably proportionate and believable in relation to the rest of the image, otherwise it can start to look out of place. when you're working with more stylized or exaggerated stuff, it also opens up some room for some fun designing, so do a bunch of research on axes and try and make some cool shapes out of the handle or the head of the axe.
pic are some drawings i did to play around a bit with the design. it might be too cartoony for what you're looking to do, but i hope it sort of illustrates what i'm getting at!!
>>2416852
You need to soften some of those edges and really push your darker values to match the reference. Grab a Staedtler 8B or some other darker pencil that will mix with graphite. Go over the darker spots with a harder pencil to get rid of the white specs of paper showing. Also rework those facial features. The eyes look wider, eyebrows don't really match either, the angle of the tip and wings of the nose is wrong, bottom lip is skewed.
Looking for c&c on color and rendering. I'm not worried about anatomy so much here.
Of course I'd forget to attach the image.

it's a pretty slow board, so trips aren't really that big of a deal. The problem was always that a lot of people block or want to block firez but he's always tripping the OP of drawthreads. It's to stop people blocking him because drawthreads are a pretty big part of the board, and it also boosts his ego. And rumor has it he's a janitor, so it's not like it will ever be dealt with because this board is dead as shit

Here's you image in grey scale with a random lion for comparison
>>2418275
That's a tasty looking tart dude. Anyway yeah it's sort of from imagination. I went on google and just browsed pics of lions for a while then left the tab open to use for info but I didn't copy any particular picture. Doing direct studies I wasn't retaining anything about color because I wasn't thinking about what was there, just copying it. This way I force myself to consciously choose colors and understand why they need to be there. Gurney helps a ton. I was definitely playing it too safe with the saturation since oversaturating has been my biggest problem with color and I just wanted to check I hadn't done it again before I worked more on defining everything. You and some other anons all said the same thing so I trust it. Thanks anon.
>>2418394
Wow yeah that's way too light. I always forget to check it in grayscale. The hardest part for me is building up value without over saturating but I think I've come up with an idea for how to go about it here. Thanks dude.
>>2417094
He looks bald.
>>2418473
Yeah especially looking at anon's comparison image I see he needs a lot more fuzziness. I was mostly just concerned about the color though I'm not going to get too invested in making some amazing rendering of a lion or else I would've just done a direct copy. I will add some more to the mane though since I'm gonna be painting there anyway.

Not that guy, but to avoid the useless drama that FiReZ and people like him spawns.
I don't mind tripfags that don't spawn a derail twice every thread, but I honestly think you should pack your ego aside, take off your trip and take one for the team if it gets brought up as often as it does here.
If FiReZ never tripped, we wouldn't even be having this discussion at all and everybody would be happier, it wouldn't even change anything, he could still post his art and get his buttpats and be the OP image. I used to be vocal about my dislike of Firez, but now I just try to ignore him even if I can't filter him since he's so stubborn about wearing trips in Draw General OPs.

What does Push your Values mean???
Isn't a noob mistake to make the lights too light and the darks too dark? Then why is that the solution to anything?
>>2418653
It means that your range of values is too limited. It's hard to describe without a photo, but I'll try:
Imagine a greyscale from black to white. If black is 0, and white is 100, you may be utilizing only 40 through 60 - some greys in the middle.
Pushing your values means pushing the boundaries of your current values towards the two extremes. So instead of a range of values hovering around midtone greys (40 - 60), you PUSH them to include more blacks and more whites (maybe 10 - 90).
>>2418653
It's a noob mistake to stray away from extreme darks and lights, never heard of it going the other way around. Look at the image you posted, it isn't afraid to go very close to black for the shadows and it goes very close to white for the dog's head. Push your values usually means that all of your values are midtones so nothing really pops or reads particularly well.
If you look at >>2418394 the darkest value is around the eye, and it's only a 60% grey, whereas the lightest values on the face are a 20% grey. On the lion photo below it, the darkest areas like the nose, eyes, and mane are all 100% black, and the background value is 10% grey. The values on the actual lion only reach about 20% grey at the lightest, but it still has a decent value range of ~80 as opposed to the top illustration where it's between 20% and 60%.
Help I can't into charcoal
>>2418653
>Isn't a noob mistake to make the lights too light and the darks too dark?
The problem is more when you make all your lights too light and all your darks too dark.
If you have really high contrast everywhere it's exhausting to look at and looks bad, it doesn't lead the eye anywhere. You want to reserve high contrast for places you want people to look.
If everything is either a 1 or a 9 on your value scale you'll have nowhere to go if you want to make something really pop out, like say you have some dude with a shining sword but you already used a really bright value for his tunic, boots, the rocks under him, etc. Then his sword will just look as bright as his clothing / surroundings. If you tone done the values/contrasts on all those things and the sword is the only one that's really light it'll really stand out.
>>2418695
Mmmm I'm not sure I understand the question.
Perhaps is has to do with differentiating local clusters of values, and pushing them to help define the forms and materials. If you need to push your blacks, then you don't necessarily need to push your ALL your darker values towards black, only some.
Take a look at the lion photo in >>2418394 again. The values of the lions furs are lighter than the values in the lions mane. Through different groups of values (darks, greys, whites), we can start to differentiate the different forms, materials and textures in what we are trying to draw.
>>2418710
Practice value scales. Yor proportion is good, and you're using a full range, you're just not recreating values at the correct level. Some of your dark 10s should be 7s , 0s should be 3s, etc. regularly practicing scales should give you control over this.
>>2418653
>Then why is that the solution to anything?
It is not. Who the hell said that? It really depends on the mood you're going for.
Hell I don't think is a good idea to have extreme light and extreme dark in the same painting.
>>2418721
The values on these may not be extreme but I think there's two reasons they're successful. For one there is still a large enough range between the lightest light and darkest dark value, and secondly there are much clearer divisions between the values. There's a very defined light, mid, and dark grouping and all of them have a fairly hard edge to them. When 0% sits next to 40% and that sits right next to 75% I think it tends to make each of them look brighter and darker by comparison. I'm not those anons, I'm the one working on the picture of the lion actually. I'm glad you posted these because I'm pretty sure that principle is what makes them work and that's exactly the kind of thing I need to be paying attention to but I had totally forgotten about it. I really need to do more analysis like this.

how do I do that with charcoal? Any techniques for laying down values properly? Class wants us to only use charcoal and I mainly use pen.
>>2418745
you made it 10x better, thanks
Hey do you guys think I could fool normies on facebook with it? All I did was add a bunch of filters, a few brush strokes and the liquify tool, Is it convincing enough? I want to make mad cash off my 10 minute photo edits
>>2418763
it was obvious to me at least but i think it would fool normies.
>>2418763
Absolutely.
i never know what to do with the bg
i feel there is something off also
>>2418763
Do it just, gather followers who will defend your art is legit, compare yourself to hacks who do the same thing by saying "look, I do realistic paintings just like this guy and they also attack him. there will always be haters", and then one day come out of the closet and show these people how they are easily fooled.

file name is misleading. where is qtπ
Had some trouble with the hands and feet here.
first ever try using digital applications, advice appreciated
Spent way too long on this- my ethos was not to use line art as a crutch to convey form and use values instead.
Where did I go wrong?
Where the fuck did I go right?

the nipples just look weird. everything else is, generally, nicely colored but they're just flat circles of color which nipples AREN'T so, i'd say find a balance where they aren't super detailed/realistic (because obviously it wouldn't fit with your drawing) but they're a little better. just the solid block color looks weird. i like everything else mostly
Is there any good tutorials how to digital paint correctly?
It always end up messy. I must learn how to paint ( or brush ) clearly; prior to color theory or anything deeper.

No photo-bashing dude; i'm only just getting into value and colour. I'm trying to get out my comfort zone, this was the line work I did for the piece which to me looks a lot more 'polished' than the final thing does. What can I do to make sure it doesn't end up looking so blurry?
C&C welcome.
cc? How do you price a work for sale? flower things arent finished yet.

put her tits in it next time
Still working on color, did a study this time. Even doing studies I've had tons of issues matching color and temperature and everything in the past but this time I felt more informed and choosing colors seemed much easier. I think I'm starting to understand it.

the hair is the only thing that really gives it away
need to add some stylistic brush strokes there
>>2419463
I kept making it smaller but it didn't look right. I was reworking that part but photoshop crashed on me so I couldn't. Doesn't matter though, it's mainly about the color and rendering. It's probably for the best I couldn't get wrapped up in trying to make it a more accurate portrait.

looks very nice so far

Thanks anon, I'm really happy with it too. I'm not sure how much I learned from it yet but it was the first time I didn't feel totally lost using colors and I think that's a good sign at least.
