why is it so expensive?
>>
No real competition.
>>
Fanless
>>
>>54440829
There is, just not sold in the west directly.

Plenty of cherrytrail nettop/nuc PCs around for less than $100
Of course if you want more than 2GB RAM you'll be looking at ~$150

>Android units almost always cost more as there is a shitload more work to do for the engineers compared to Windows, which they just install and pray for the best
>MS provides FREE windows licenses for baytrail/cherrytrail and 2GB or less ram, but charges if ram exceeds 2GB, so 4GB machines have to pay for expense windows license or even more expense android integration costs.
>>
>>54440831
It's not fanless tho.
>>
>>54441117
No, I meant it has no fans so they have to jack up the price just to make any money.
>>
It really isn't. Try to gather parts for a Celeron N3050 build yourself and be amazed. The NUC is cheaper.
>>
>>54440825
Good goy tax
>>
You won't be able to get the same components and a decent case for anywhere near the price. The NUCs are good deals. Proper cases in that form factor can cost half what the NUC costs, without any internals
>>
>>54441117
What is the point of this thing then
>>
>>54440825
Because jewtel.
>>
Not expensive if you have a job.

I bought i7 version 3 months ago and use it for my desktop machine. It attaches right on the back of the monitor and is about same size as a CD.
>>
600€ with i5, 850GB SSD and 8GB RAM
>>
>>54443273
oops, 240GB SSD*
>>
>>54440825
because it just werks

edit: woops, wrong thread...
>>
>>54440829
there are loads of Chinese barebones boxes
>>
>>54443293
What's with the weird SSD capacity? Why not powers of 2?

Why is this bullshit so expensive??

EXPLAIN ME PLS!!!
>>
Because it's very small.

You can get a bigger thing with the same specs for cheaper.

Consider that option.
>>
But OP, it's really not that expensive, it's actually pretty cheap
>>
Anyone here actually use one of these?
>>
>>54447439
>Apple product
>why is it expensive?

Were you born yesterday?
>>
>>54447439
Because SimpleHuman is a fucking hipster brand of overpriced, form-over-function crap. I lose respect for my friends whenever I see that they've bought one of those trashcans.

What the fuck are you doing in a nuc thread tho?

>>>/wsr/
>>
>>54450744
Don't respond to bait
>>
>>54440825
because it's tiny so it's hard to manufacture, and nobody is buying one so they have to profit somehow
>>
>>54450797
b-but I bought one anon
>>
>>54440908
I bought a cherrytrail box and it just doesn't come close to the NUC in power, expandability, build quality, or anything really. Linux support is still absolute shit for these SoCs, only recently there have been some patches for basic functionality like audio written by an Intel guy (apparently in his free time).

Windows 10 is the only way you'll get these running without half the hardware being out of order, and it eats up so much RAM there's nothing left to do anything even if the CPU wasn't completely anemic. Regret wasting the money tbqh
>>
>>54440825
compact convenient
they can pretty much name their price
>look at apple
>>
>>54453969
Are you talking about the cherrytrail being shit or the NUC being shit?
>>
>>54440825
Because you're poor.

Because it's for a niche market.

I have one as a HTPC embedded into the wall behind my wall mounted 65" television. Once setup properly these things shit all over anything else for media. No noisy fans or obnoxious box.

Still using an asus S1-AT5NM10E
Atom D525
Ion 2
4Go ram / gigabyte ethernet /wifi /usb 3 / and a card reader on front pannel.
This shit is silent and can decode 1080p with hight bitrate on xbmc/kodi.
Works like a charm.
Only downside is, if you try to read the new H265 codec, it is not decoded by the ion2, so you can t expect it to watch it.

AND hdmi.
What is the problem ?
>>
>>54454486
My cherrytrail box is the one I dislike, yes. Sorry.

The NUC has never given me any kind of trouble at all, and performance is so good I forget it's a tiny low-power system unless I put on a non-2D recent game. Obviously for that you'll want something completely different.
>>
>>54457995
Does it get enough air back there?
