Getting one of these from the Intel affiliates sale starting on Wednesday.

Pic related is the mobo I'm planning on. And I'm grabbing the following case mostly because it has a temperature display and comes with 5 fans (those things cost too much).
http://www.apevia.com/ProductsInfo.asp?KEY=X-Dreamer4-RD

Everything else is still up in the air though, I'll probably coast with the on-board graphics for a year until I've saved up for a nice graphics card.
>>
>>54425224
Same, I will wait for 1080, no point in getting a GPU now.

Also how much does the 6700k cost in the sale? I would love to get one cheaper.
>>
>>54425249
Well there's some hoops to jump through, but if you qualify for the most important part (working for a company that has a deal with them, like Best Buy), then all you need to do make at least 25,000 of their Chips (club points, and you don't even have to save them). Which wouldn't be hard to do before Wednesday when things start.

The sale goes on a while, but I wouldn't count on the supplies of the i7 to last more than a week.

Prices are $124, and $134 before shipping. Or $109 if you've been participating in the program for a year or more, and have all your ducks in order.

Once 1070 hits the shelves I'll be picking up
>1070
>i5-6400

Should I change anything? I'm set on the 1070 unless the reviews and benchmarks that will come this week are absolute dog shit.
>>
>>54425575
Get a i5 6500, and you should be golden!
>>
>>54425594
Oh well I guess it's a $15 or so difference. I'll go with that.
Hope the 1070 is half as good as what was said on the event on actual real life applications (ie vidya gaems because I don't really have any other reason for building this rig, I have a separate laptop/workstation at work.)
Is the Kingston HyperX Fury SSD or the Intel 535 one OK? Those are the only ones available in my area.

OP: Please tell me if my gaymen pc is good

Yea the 6400 is only 2.7GHz.

They made the 1070 look really good, hopefully it really does have Titan X performance for the price of a 970.

Intel my bro, Kingston makes some shit SSDs.
Shoot me anymore questions.

>>

I'm really glad I waited, I was going to buy everything together with a 970 last week luckily the shop in my immediate area didn't have one in stock.
June can't come soon enough.

I'm building a PC for a friend who doesn't know much about parts.
They're the kind of person who will look inside and see brown noctua fans with no led lighting and think it's cheap - hence the cooling/lighting/fans.

I feel like swapping the seagate hdd for a WD black or something with similarly better reliability may be a good choice, but since the SSD is bringing the speed I'm not completely decided.

Target is £1000, gaming at 1080p/maybe 1440p but by no means 4k and keep up with new releases for 5 years.

Right now I gots a decent rig for relatively almost no money. Bout to upgrade and wanting some opinions.

Already own
>8GB DDR3 (2 sticks of four)
> 2 big enough hard drives and a SSD for OS
>Satisfactory peripherals

What I'm thinking about getting
> Radeon 7950
>something from the AMD quad core fx series
>Some generic power supply once I figure out what I need

Mostly just going to be playing/streaming games. Wouldn't be upset about setting a game's graphics to medium settings.

Guys, I have a question.

How much do you think R9 390 is going to last? I'm thinking about buying it this week. Should I wait for the upcoming NVIDIA cards?
>>
>>54426746

>>
>>54428084
its going to last 2-3 years most (1 year to max settings) (2 in mid/high)
unless are willing to play with lower settings you dont have to
you can wait for amd to launch and see if its suits you after than.. (in 30 days from today on computex)
>>
>>54426746
if you find one with the wraith cooler grab it if not you can wai till fall when amd and intell gonna launch their new series of cpu's(am4 will be compartible with am3+ mobos)

>>54425139
>6700k is nearly identical to 4790k
>5820k easily overclocks over 4ghz
>5820k has haswell cores just like 4790k

Overclocking is a good option for better single thread performance.
>>
>>54428204
nope
970 is getting destroyed on dx12 by the own card was suppose to be a sucessor..(780ti)
and get in mind that the games are becoming more and more compute heavy so naturally they are favouring amd
dx12 adoptation rate is almost twice as dx11 so maxwell 2.0 cards wont really last much more than a year max
>>
Do you guys think buying either R9 3xx or GTX 9xx at this point is reasonable?

I just kind of threw this together based on sales. I'm not sure if it's all really that optimal as an actual build. I'm planning on buying a GTX 1080 since it's being released on muh birthday.

Looking good, I'd check the support for ram frequency on on that cpu though. I've never actually heard of it being an issue but I don't know if it will have validated support for 3000mhz.

A few parts are older generation:

PSU:
Afaik the RM series has been replaced by the RMI series. The HX series also exists but iirc it's only difference is a slightly higher power efficiency certification.
Cooler:
There have been many generations of single fan AIO coolers from corsair. I think the newest is either the H75 or H80i.

120/250GB 850 Samsung EVO SSD + 2TB WD Blue seems to be a golden price:performance spot for storage.

Go for a Z chipset motherboard if you're buying a CPU with unlocked multiplier, otherwise go for a non-k version of the CPU if you're not planning to overclock. Rest of the parts look fine, although I tend to stay away from Corsair PSU's, I prefer Seasonic or EVGA.

MUST be built before the 24th, upgrading with https://www.evga.com/support/stepup/

You waitfags need to cool it. He said a 1080.
>>
>>54436744
why don't you use pcpartpicker dood it checks for every compatibility thing you could imagine
>>
>>54438108
Its for OSX and you gotta have the right hardware for it to work enough to not bitch out.

>working for a company that has a deal with them, like Best Buy
So this is basically only for those who work in retail?

If you wait like, another month or 2, the 6800K will come out. 6 core extreme cpu for sub 400 dollars as I have read. Price is not 100% known yet though. And yes, you do need it. Games are slowly using 6 and 8 core optimizations. We both know you aren't buying an i7 for gentoo.
>>
>>54438573
I'm toying with the idea of downgrading i5->i7 and upgrading 970->980

As much as I believe games are moving towards better multi core utilization, I'm starting to think hyperthreading would be wasted on them?
>>
Gonna be parting out/selling my current system:

i5 4690k w/ Hyper EVO 212
ASRock Z97 Extreme 4
G.SKILL Ripjaws X 2*4GB @ 2133MHz
EVGA GTX 980 FTW
Samsung 840 EVO 250GB SSD
WD Blue 1TB HDD
SeaSonic M12II 620
Corsair 500R

For:

GTX 1080
New x99 6850k
16GB DDR4

Don't have any specific parts in mind yet, but I am expecting to put this together sometime in June.

>Intel affiliates sale

I found an exploit on the website to do something I wasn't supposed to, I did it, it worked and now I'm worried that I'll get banned before the sale.
Feels bad.

I'm not going into detail about the exploit.

as video showed, no, you don't need a 6 core let alone 8 core.

I got a 9800 GTX for 15€ (includes postage).
It was just on my desk for decoration, borrowed it to a friend right now.

>>54438709
But DX12 and Vulkan? Lot of games are getting DX12 patches and it really takes advantage of threads.
>>
>>54425914
If you can wait you probably should. Even if it's only Haswell IPC like people are saying, you can expect a real nice 8 core for i5-tier prices, plus DDR4. Hell even if they only hit Sandy Bridge IPC that would be a real great chip.
>>
>>54438850
from all the benchmarks i've seen dx12 and vulkan appear to benefit less, weaker cores than more, stronger cores.

8350's and i3's benefit far more than quad i7's and haswell-e.

if you fully watched the video you would of herd their explanation why the 6700k did so well against the hexa and octa cores. with the way multi-core games are designed, they are still ironically single threaded dependent. they're not truly parallelized. they're just multi-threaded capable. true parallelization is hard while multi-threading is far easier.

instead of having things like drawing, ai, and the like spread across all cores to work on it at the same time, things are just "separated" to their own core. so things like drawing is dedicated to core #1, ai is on core #2 instead of both being processed by core #1. you get a speed increase because you're not bogging down a single core trying to process everything at the same time, but you're also not getting the added benefit of the other cores working on it as well.

what matters is having enough cores then single threaded performance comes back into play as numero uno. quad cores are still more than plenty and by the time those hexa and quads matter newer generation of processors will be out. quad + ht is icing on the cake. anything more is for premature epeen.

just look at digital foundrys 6700k vs 6600k video:

False, its EXACTLY the other way around

rate mine pretty please with vanilla coke ontop
http://pcpartpicker.com/p/2cwznQ
planning on buying them over time obviously, reusing my PSU, reusing my old 500 gb HDD for OS, and will most likely buy used GPU and CPU (times are tough)
any downside to buying used hardware?
Any non-matte 4k monitors? I hate matte so much, making everything grainy.
Prioity right now is getting the r7 then getting dat dere p2415q. Not a "gamer" (hate that term so much) just someone who wants to have a crisp screen and still play some GTA V. Peripherals are all obviously going to be bought over a longer period of time because I already have my old ones.
>>
I'm going to hold off buying anything until I come back from travelling overseas.
When I do get back I will look into getting 2 1080 Ti hybrids (assuming they will be an eventuality).
Am an Ausfag so the whole system should set me back $5000+ but I'll post it in /g/ in a year or so if all things work out.
Should stop me from upgrading for a good few years.

Should I just take the 290x out of my current build (FX 6300 CPU) and put it in this one?

We're not going to see Polaris until the end of June probably.
>>
I have some real quick questions.

Are the BeQuiet CPU coolers compatible with the 6th Generation Intel i7-6700?

If I'm building a PC with a GTX 1080 should I get two 2560x1440 monitors, one for gaming and one for other shit, or both for gaming if it can handle it? Or should I invest in one 4K screen, doubt I'd have a use for that much screen realestate tbqh. And I should go back to 1080p screens should I, especially with a GTX 1080, seems like it would be pointless to purchase.

Anybody have any suggestions for improvements/savings? I'm planning on buying a GTX 1080 and want to have this all put together by the 27th.
