OSX works fairly well, has better font rendering, better scaling, a better file manager and a few better applications. There's no current equivalent to an apple trackpad, even the 2011 one, alongside with an OS that makes it work beautifully (I mean sure, you could use touchegg on linux but it ain't the same fucking thing).

OS X is a UNIX that also is supported by proprietary software some people think they need, like Photoshop. It comes with basic *nix tools like bash, sed, grep, vim, python, openssh, etc... preinstalled.

If you want a really honest answer, it's the combination of imessage and the ability to send texts from my computer.
If I lived in bongistan and used whatsapp for most of my communication, I would probably buy a PC, but since I live in the US, the majority of my communication is done with people who use iphones and imessage is a boon for this.

I'd pay to get some software like BTT on windows though, but it's not even there. There's an application that does a small fraction of that on Windows, called ExtraMagic (which doesn't even work unless you disable driver signature enforcement). A lot of good is it gonna do to me if I can get shit for free if it's not going to give me what I want.

Thing is you name many different computers that are better in certain aspects. Mac users think that because one PC doesn't beat the macbook in every single aspect they can think of, even if the PC beats it in 9/10 use cases, the mac is better because of X cherry picked metric. It wins be default because its made by Apple.
Actually think about how you're going to use your laptop. There are more portable laptops than the macbook for less than 1/2 the price. There are more powerful latptops for less than 1/2 the price. There are laptops with removable batteries for days long mobile usage, there are laptops with much higher color accuracy for professional use. All fractions of the price of a macbook.
The macbook is just consumer-grade quality all around, but does nothing well for its price range. There are no PCs that imitate it because its pointless. Mindless brand sheep buy macs because they're made by Apple, not because of quality or performance. There is no point in any PC maker trying to make an overpriced vogue consumer laptop.

Professional software developers often migrate from GNU/Linux to Mac OS X because they want a *nix environment that just works, has great battery life out the box, and supports certain proprietary software they might need for their job. Believe it or not, some people want to focus on actual work instead of ricing Arch.
Personally I don't need proprietary software so I still use GNU but I can understand the mindset. Default wallpaper. Default icons. Default fonts. Focus.

It is just that really. Apply some consistency for instance with the UI (in the last few years Apple has gotten a little bit worse with that but still fairly ok) so there's as few distractions as possible, provide driver support out of the box because you're basically selling very specific builds or laptops and the software while mostly paid just literally works.
Of course problems come with hackintosh, which I currently use. In my case it -works- but doesn't really love my GPU. Well, not even GNU/Linux likes my GPU. I have come to the conclusion that my graphics card is not that decent.
