Is VR the new 3D?
>expensive
>gimmicky
>barely supported
Yup
This is the first time VR tech is actually decent so it might not die out like 3D. The problem is that putting on a goofy helmet is kinda shit and Normie's won't want to do it other than as a gimmick.
Like the Wii with motion controls it was kinda cool but after the novelty wore off nobody used it again. I think VR could be the same.
I do see some applications as being pretty good in the VR and even AR domain. I'm not sure if it will be a house hold device like game consoles are but I'm sure it will be popular in specialist areas. Things like science research, surgery, virtual tours, etc it is pretty cool.
a great technology that normies hate for no other reason than because they think it will make them seem more sophisticated? i can definitely see that happening if vr doesn't get its killer app soon.

yeap, it is the new meme.
eh, it might survive. I hope it does because it'll lead to AR.
3D might have had some niche use if it could have been done more coherently, not just slapped on every game and movie. The vast majority of movies aren't designed for it. Some movies have a couple 3d events and the rest is junk. 3d demos are cool as hell because they really go balls-to-the-wall with the 3d. With games it depends on the perspective. First person is pretty cool, Starfox 64 3D actually was cool in 3d.
Some goober I watch on youtube made a vid about it
