I've spent half my day trying to get a bloody "Hello World" MPLABX Harmony project to run in a Mini-32 breakout board.

Sounds more like you're a retard. Maybe embedded programming isn't for you.
>>
>>55607483
What is MPLABX Harmony?

What is Mini-32?

What's it like to be married to a pregnant woman?
>>
>>55607495
whatever m8.

I mean....

Here's your problem

>Positive I'm doing it right.

Assume nothing until your actually doing it right.

Now grab a manual on assembly and read.

She pissed with you? How romantic!

>MPLABX
MPLABX is a piece of shit, just go for MPLAB 8

Any reasonable person has switched to ARM.

Honestly all 3 platforms disappoint me:

Atmel:
> No Atmel Studio support for Linux
Microchip:
> MPLAB attempts to jew you into paying for their bastardized version of GCC
NXP arms:
> Doesn't have a hand-holding dev board like the Atmel Xplained Mini or Pickit 3 and NXPexpresso IDE isn't as useful as MPLAB or Atmel Studio

The main issue with ARM stuff is that getting an environment up and running is a pain in the dick. I've been using a cypress PSoC board for a data acquisition project and it has been super easy; the dev board is $10. PSoC creator is more or less what I imagined an IDE to be in my head (I did some avr development on linux so the best I used before was geany).

This man ask the right questions. Let's get some answers.

MPLAB harmony is just a tool for MPLAB that makes the boilerplating of setting up a new PIC32 project easier

I guess mini-32 is a dev board with a pic32 on it. I prefer to buy a minimal board that connects to the pickit3, but I guess they both work

I guess being married to a pregnant woman is probably comparable to manually troubleshooting OSCCON registers on a pic32 without MPLAB harmony

It makes configuring the crystal settings and pin multiplexer (something which is a massive pain in the ass) a little bit more manageable

I appreciate your effort in explaining. As you can see, I'm not smart enough to begin to understand that.

update

>For PIC32MX bootloaders, the MHC configuration for the corresponding application must match the bootloader for the interface in
use. MHC will adjust the linker script and certain bootloader definitions in source code to maximize the use of the Flash memory.

Bootloader Library Help.pdf

couldn't even get examples/blinky or examples/my-first-app to run so I say the problem is with the pre-installed bootloader.

I'll try the the program lines, or will just buy some pic32 in a dip package.

The mini-32 is a breakout board by a 3rd party with a end bootloader preinstalled.

It's $CURRENT_YEAR OP. Time to switch to ARM already. I will admit that Microchip's Ethernet controllers and Atmel's QTouch stuff is neat though.

Can I get an ARM MCU for 50 cents a pop?

Almost

A 50 cent 8bit MCU is shit in comparison. Even comparably priced ones aren't going to get you much. If you're really that cost sensitive and have an application that barely needs anything then by all means go ahead.

For 75 cents have an ARM M0+
