Has anyone had any luck ordering a 1080 from the Nvidia website? It shows in stock but I'm afraid I order now and it will actually ship in a couple of weeks.

currently have gigabyte meme 3.5

gonna pick up 1070 by msi as soon as nvidia fixes the DPC latency bug. can't afford 1080 because 1070 is $600 here

on the other note I never used MSI. Are they usually without problems?

Started with a 560ti and then upgraded to a GTX 760. Will probably buy a non-reference GTX 1060 in the next 6 months. My i7-2600k I bought in 2011 is still going strong, I feel like I may survive three or four more GPU generations before I even need to touch my CPU, so a GTX 1060 may not be the last card this rig sees.

I do not do a whole lot of gayming but when I do I like decent frame rates, so the 1060 will do. I cannot justify buying a 1070.

Im looking to get a fractal design node 202 or silverstone rvz02 with a 1060 or 480 (depends on how prices settle in the next few weeks)

Should I look at a blower or non blower style card for these cases?

Almost exactly like a 980 in games that have really good SLI scaling, but those are rarer and rarer these days. Can probably expect 970-ish performance in most things. I only had them for a couple of weeks before getting bored and selling them on.

And no, it's not worth the hassle. Sell the 960 and buy a 480 or something if you want more performance.

Jeez, and my best laptop has 945GM/GU video (which does almost everything I need it to well).

970 ATM. Honestly don't see a point in upgrading. I can play all games in 2560x1080 while running high/ultra details and having stable 60 fps. Looks like Pascal isn't future proof and AMD doesn't have anything that can compete with 1070. I guess I'll wait for Vega or another nvidia architecture

Yes. Supposedly AMD pushed up the Vega release from early 2017 to late 2016, we'll see if they actually launch anything high end

I'm actually surprised they launched the 480, I thought 2016 would be another year of no releases from them. Still doubtful Zen will be finished in time tho

ASIC doesn't have as much to with maximum potential OC as it does with voltage. I used to have an r9 290X xfire setup. One of the cards had a much lower ASIC than the other. (60% compared to 81%). I benched them separately before tossing them in together. The card with low ASIC was able to reach 1250mhz bit required 1.25v to get there. The higher ASIC one was only able to reach 1190mhz before becoming unstable. Even with much higher voltage added.

Yet the higher ASIC card was capable of doing 1080mhz at a tiny 0.86v where as the low ASIC card still needed 1.15v to do the same speed.

ASIC effects under clocking more so than overclocking.

It's not throttling, highest I've seen it is 67, and it doesn't start fans until 60 (probably should edit that curve).

Because the AIB partners think their custom cards are better than the founders (reference) cards, so they want the prices to reflect that

Nvidia fucked up the established pricing system something good, and pretty much universally jacked up the prices for all their gpus.

A 970 cost between $320-$350 at launch, and the 1070 is going for $430-$450
A 760 or 960 at launch cost about $250, and I doubt we'll see a 1060 below $300, for a fucking *60 series card. That's ridiculous

And a 780 and 980 cost between around $500 at launch, and 1080s are going for upwards of $700, which is what *80ti cards used to go for.
I won't be surprised if the 1080ti is around $1000 at this point. Nvidia is going insane with prices and AMD needs to put pressure on them at the high end for much cheaper

You can get one for $400.

>I doubt we'll see a 1060 below $300
One store already had Zotac 1060s up for preorder, for $260 for the cheaper one. You're pretty dumb if you think there aren't going to be any cards below the MSRP of founder's edition, when you could get them for cheaper than that with both 1070 and 1080.

>And a 780 and 980 cost between around $500 at launch
780 went for $650. 980 for $550.

Seriously, get your facts straight.
