UNIX is old and busted shit.

Linux is the new hotness.

Being POSIX complaint in 2016 when the UNIX marketshare is literally 0% is like wearing suspenders into starbucks.

I'm afraid I don't follow. I neither wear suspenders, nor do I waste money on shitty, overpriced coffee-like drinks like some kind of poofter dipshit, when plain old black coffee is sufficient, and can be made for pennies at home.

UNIX market share isn't 0%? You forget that any OS with UNIX certification counts as UNIX.

I'm going to convert this PC to a FreeBSD media server and access it through my laptop.

Would that be difficult to do? Can I use an mpd client on my mac to access the MPD running on the server?

BSD utils are generally pretty shitty in comparison to their GNU counterparts though.
>>
>>55603708
I've never had any serious problems (that weren't hardware support-related) working between GNU/Linux, BSD or Solaris.

Do you not like the documentation, or something else?
>>
>>55603754
he can't stand false.c if it's not about 100 lines long
>>
>>55603754
Nah, they just are worse than the GNU equivalents. For example, GNU sort supports
--parallel $THREADS
where as BSD sort does not. Also, compare the syntaxen of shitty BSD sed
sed -i '' 's/win/no/g'
vs Stallman tier GNU sed
sed -i 's/win/yes/g'
>>
>>55604151
GNU said syntax works with BSD sed
>>
>>55604151
According to https://lists.freebsd.org/pipermail/freebsd-current/2012-June/034956.html
>--nthreads option corresponds to --parallel option of NGNU

Don't really use sed enough to have an opinion either way, but I've never had much issue using GNU sed syntax on non-GNU systems, so >>55604193 is probably right.
>>
>>55604151
i can't stand GNU documentation though

it's always a lot of words that don't actually explain anything
>>
>>55604193
This is with BSD sed that ships with macOS Sierra (using it for laughs).

  cat <<EOF > file
> win
> EOF
sed -i 's/win/no/g' file
sed: 1: "file": invalid command code f
cat file
win
sed -i '' 's/win/no/g' file
cat file
no

This shitty sed doesn't even have an option to display version number :D
>>
>>55604435
Most of the BSD and even GNU utils in OSX are ancient, though. Dangerously ancient. It actually works on OpenBSD here.
>>
>>55604435
Works in OpenBSD
>>
>>55604479
GNU shit's ancient because they're all the last GPLv2 version and Apple's been replacing them with BSD utils
>>
>>55604435
Also, I don't think the version even matters here.

It's whatever version your BSD OS is, since it ships with it.
>>
>>55604290
oh yeah and GNU info is probably the worst thing ever invented

shit key bindings AND also seems to discourage simple and concise documentation
>>
>>55602001

BSD is absolute garbage. There is no libreBSD kernel like there is for linux-libre. I refuse to load proprietary blobs when loading OpenBSD that claims to be fully open source, fucking hypocrites.
>>
>>55604837
OpenBSD is fully open source though, they are in no way hypocritical.

Are you ok with this:

grep (BSD grep) 2.5.1-FreeBSD
sort --version

I don't understand why you're asking that question, but no, I'm not.

Licensing info shouldn't be on a --version switch.
