I still use Mate because I can't let go of the old style desktops. Luckily Mate is still in active development so we won't be left behind with all this Wayland/Weston shit.
Style over substance. And while I agree the latest Plasma looks rather nice, I'd rather have something like MATE or XFCE.

Me too. I tried a dozen Distros and DEs and Mint Cinnamon is the best. Manjaro KDE looks great ass well, but Cinnamon was just easier to use. The Mint-Y-Dark theme is bretty nice btw. I Like it much

Tried kubuntu but it had major driver issues, both open source and proprietary drivers. It kept fucking crashing so I just went to xubuntu and am happy enough here. Also fuck installing KDE on it I don't feel like that shit. I want it to just werk.

Cinnamon is great and one of the reasons I finally jumped ship from Windows to Linux.
You can close windows from taskbar with MMB, have completely different customized taskbars on all monitors
Mute volume with MMB on the icon or scroll over it to change volume, you can change audio outputs, mute microphone etc all from that little icon
Scrolling over the battery icon on a laptop changes display brightness
You can add themes and "applets" straight from the DE, customize the animations of windows, have the windows a program opens be attached to their parent window like in OS X
It's full of little things like that that make me not want to change it for MATE or whatever.
The biggest problem is gnome programs like Screenshot which is buggy as fuck, and that System Monitor, Calculator and some others don't fit Cinnamon 3.0, but that should be fixed soon.
