If you actually spend some time typing each day and work at it you will improve fairly quickly, especially if you're currently at sub 70wpm.

Learn to touch type, involves looking at the screen and using all 10 fingers, there's some good sites to help you learn online
I used to do about 140, now I have severe pain in my hands and range around 75.

Learned years ago by covering my hands so I couldn't see the keys and typing paragraphs out of a book. There's websites that will tell you which key to hit with which finger now. hardest thing to do is to not look down to see if you're going to hit the right key. It just takes practice to gain the muscle memory.

Typing will never be the same with my left wrist being fucked. I've dropped from 650 to 400 and it took me 2 years to get back to 500 - which I still can't keep up over extended amount of time.
I'm getting slow in old age I guess, or just out of practice. Last time I tested I got 135 WPM. It might also have to do with the fact that this test is just typing random words in nonsense order. I do better typing actual passages.
