All I want is a 30+ inch ultrawide, and I'm coming from an old 1920x1200 Samsung 59Hz monitor. People keep saying that ultrawides aren't as good as 1440p monitors or ones with higher refresh rates, but to be honest I don't understand why. Is there not an ultrawide that has a high refresh, so its good for gaming and basic photo work?

i have a dell u3415w, it doesn't have any of that gsync or high refresh stuff like some of the other gaming oriented monitors, but it's built well and doesn't seem to suffer from as many of the quality control issues the ultrawide asus and acers monitors do.
