Rebooting a general, I'd like to know more about HP's retro line of workstation keyboards, C1405A or C1405B, I like their design a lot but don't know how it feels to type with.

Average price on ebay is about 110, shipping included but they aren't in good condition, is there a modern equivalent of it?

What do you mean? Rubberdome keyboards? Yes, there are some, if you look hard enough.

They're made of PBT and functional. But the quality is very mediocre compared to the ones Massdrop has.

Here you go.
Browns are an ok starter switch for those who can't choose between the clicky and linear camps, but ultimately they're very mediocre.
Reds are more specialized and better at what they try to be, but some can't cope with the complete lack of tactile feedback.

Reds might be too light but they are more common while blacks could be too stiff and they are more rare.

So 2 LEDs died/are dying on my Ducky Shine 3, with possibly more on their way out.
I'm competent with a soldering iron so replacing them won't be a problem, but does anyone know which LEDs match the brightness/color/voltage/current of the stock ones?

I could also go balls deep and put SIP sockets into every switch for easy future LED replacements, but I'd still need LEDs that match the stock current and voltage ratings.

>>
>>55532346
Is there a reason for that?

>>55532343
Same can be said for most enthusiasts of anything. Audio gear, shoes, cars, etc...
If you don't want to waste your money on a mechanical keyboard there's nothing wrong with that.
>>
>>55532355
The people that say they don't like it is because the tactile bump isn't too pronounced and just feels like a scratchy red. That's why clears and gateron browns are recommended over cherry mx browns. The bump on the clear is more pronounced and gaterons feel smoother and more tactile.
>>
Browns dont feel the best but I got them cos they are still a good compromise. I can't have them too loud and reds aren't tactile enough. If you sit there and press the buttons carefully for the feel you will notice the 'mushy' feel but once you start typing or gaming and they feel comfortable.

You can get pastel blue and pink keycaps, put the novatouch stems in your HHKB and then put your gay ass keycaps on your HHKB ya dunce

Has anyone tried both Gateron Blacks and Yellows? Will Yellows have a noticeable difference for me, if I feel like Blacks are too heavy?
>>
>>55535576
I've read somewhere that yellows are the same as black, but don't have the cushion at the bottom like blacks do.

We get this question in every thread. There is indeed a reason as of why those were in basically every server room for a long time.
No custom keycaps and ML is a preference thing but it is a good keyboard.
>>
>>55522900
I want to buy one too.
Do you think it's worth €140 ($155)?
Can you tell me some things you don't like about it?

all those are still usable with the fn keys even on non-programmable 60% boards, so still there's not much point. TKL, IMO, exists for people who think they need separate arrow keys. That's always the complaint I hear.

Hey guys, looking for a good irc channel to talk about keyboards on, is there a /mkg/ irc? any other channels you guys could recommend?
>>
>>55540197
All the keyboard does is send the computer different codes for each of the keys pressed. The operating system then decides what that code translates to using the layout you've picked in the settings.
I've seen keyboards *suggest* a layout to the operating system but you can always override it.

Found SteelSeries 6Gv2 for 72 euros in one shop, in all others it is 100 euros and up.

I want to fall for the mech meme for like a year now, I have tried through some friends the cherry mx reds/browns/blues. Loved all, but reds were too soft, blues I'm not a big fan of that click, browns were probably the best. I always hear blacks are the worst, but seeing I want something like reds but harder, they seem ideal for me.

So, should I buy it? Anyone here has an opinion on that kb?

Probably ain't a bad deal for that money. Might as well.

For you guys on 60% boards, how do you deal with no numpad, or no function keys even? I don't use a numpad or function keys often but I am really hesitant to toss away those options.

Pic related is the board I am on the edge for.
>>
>>55541537

if you rarely use numpad and fn buttons now you will rarely use it in the future and therefore not really miss it

i bought TKL too, because i was afraid of losing those buttons. I regret it now since i don't use arrow or home/end row almost not at all and i should just bought HHKB.

I'm serious. Many productive applications have F1-F12 keys bound by default. Say Ctrl-Shift-F1. Why torture yourself with a tiny keyboard that requires you to press Ctrl-Shift-Fn-F1? Do you rebind all the keys? For what purpose? To look cool at Starbucks?

How tactile are gateron browns?
>>
>>55542429
Should say that I'm trying to decide between the gateron brown switches and cherry mx clear.

The clears so great for typing but I'm not sure if they'd be too hard for me to hold down playing games.

>>55542520
i find clears to be too heavy
gateron browns are my perfect switch, but it's entirely subjective

Your nigger chart needs to include buckling springs, faggot.
>>
>>55542520
If you're playing games, it shouldn't really matter since you'll be exerting some small amount of force to hold down a key anyway. Many people (including me) like the heavy switches for games, since it makes it slightly more difficult to mispress a key. I play games on black switches usually and think it's pretty great. I've even played games on buckling springs without any trouble. Clears should not be an issue at all.
>>
>>55537644
Because they have good taste I guess. Get an external numpad.

I use them all the time. Pgupdown for navigating text, printscreen for my screenshot and screenrecord commands, numlock to enable my second layer and numpad (it is a cherry ml), insert and delete are obvious choices in xterm, home and end in text again.

EnjoyPBT/Gateron, decently thick PBT in cherry profile.

>Support for most layouts (including ISO and weird bottom rows)
http://www.ukkeycaps.co.uk/product/gateron-thick-pbt-blank-keycaps-iso-ansi (sold out except for beige, should restock eventually)
https://www.massdrop.com/buy/blank-pbt-keycaps (different company but only slightly different molds, group buy ended but should come again)
>ANSI and colored modifier sets, optional legends
https://geekhack org/index.php?topic=78563.0 (group buy ended, might have extras)
https://geekhack org/index.php?topic=82641.0 (group buy ended and in production, might have extras later)

Ones I haven't tried personally:
>ANSI 60% only
https://www.originativeco.com/products/60-blanks?variant=16851522309 (same store also has with novelty legends)
>Beige ANSI with novelty legends
https://www.keyclack.com/product/enjoypbt-hangul-cyrillic-gb/ (ongoing group buy)
>feng's shop - nice ANSI sets (not sure about manufacturer and feng has been traveling a lot lately)
http://www.geekkeys.com/104-keysets/
>imsto - known for nice dyesubs, switched to EnjoyPBT and offered tons of layouts
