Pick an architecture (I recommend z80). Learn all the binary code for its machine instructions. Move on to hex. Once you got that down, learn assembly. Then learn C and write your own compiler. Now you're done.

Not even close. There's not even a 1:1 correlation on some of the more complex architectures and optimizing assemblers.
