I really suggest you buy the Redmi Note 3 pro. 5.5 inch phones might seem big the first time you get it but after a few weeks, you won't be able to go back down to small screen phones.
And the OP3 and Samsung flagships are more powerful than the R3P but for me personally, I care more about having long battery life than power. I don't need a snapdragon 820 because I rarely game on my phone. The snapdragon 650 is powerful enough for everything else you do in your smartphone.

Killed my g3 in water and I want to get something for <$250 and use ting (usa) or whatever is going to let me pay just a little to maintain a phone. Mostly I used the g3 to stream soundcloud at work and read.

I had a dumbphone for a long time too, but being able to browse the internet on your phone is very convenient. You can't always carry a laptop with you, and unless you're a girl a tablet isn't always an option when you're on the go.
The gps is what's most important to me. I drive a lot and when I hit traffic, I really like having something that can redirect me around streets, especially if I'm out during rushhour. Being able to get audio books whenever for the drive or podcasts is a plus too.

Neither. I've been using a cynagenmod 13 rom released by a team of chinese developers called mokee. It's been pretty stable for me and has long battery life (about 10% decrease per hour). Everything like the finger reader, fm radio, etc works fine.

From all the research I did, the HTC 10 seems to the be the perfect phone, and the best one out today. It's main drawback is it's also one of the most expensive.

Verizon has the most expensive service but by far the best coverage.
I use T-Mobile because I was doing a lot of international travel for my job and they offer free roaming with unlimited data and texting, so I never had to worry about getting local SIM cards, which was an absolute lifesaver for me. Their coverage in the US is decent but not great.
Can't say about Sprint except that I have some coworkers who have it and say it's not bad.

Normally I would never tell anyone to get an iPhone, but in your case it might not be so bad, since they're very simple and user friendly, if not even dumbed down(pandering to their target audience of course), and the iPhone SE is smaller, cheaper and still a decent enough phone that could be good for you.
But do research on Android too, especially if you like customization and more options to really make the phone yours.

Verizon has contracts, I think it's 2 years before you can upgrade or something like that. Don't quote me on that.
Contracts means you do what they tell you you can do. You upgrade when they say they can upgrade, usually every 2 years or so, which in phone time can be a very long time. Also you're on contract, so if you decide you want to switch carriers for whatever reason you have to buy our your contract first, which can be very pricey.
It all just depends on your personal choice and what you need the phone for and how long you want the device, if you like upgrading or not.
For example T-Mobile has their Jump on Demand program where up to three times a year you can upgrade or change your phone, no questions asked up to 3 times a year. You have to turn in your old device and restart payments on the new device, but some people don't care since you're basically leasing the phones anyway. Lease to buy basically.

I have never tried it, but according to these threads I'd say Redmi Note 3 or Meizu MX Pro 5 (someone correct me if I'm being dumb).
AFAIK they're inexpensive mid-range phones with good-ish performance and really high battery life.
Pretty limited in terms of 3rd-party roms though, so check out MIUI before buying one to see if you like the UI.

The problem nowadays is there are really not a lot of phones fitting your description, unless you're willing to put a lot of money in it.
