None. They all perform about the same as my 290 Vapor-X.

New to buying graphics cards, anyone wanna post a breakdown of 3rd party manufacturers? Other than Sapphire I don't know what's what.

I don't understand your question. You want to know what the differences will be per manufacturer?
>>
>>55483452
Yeah, basically. What manufacturers are overpriced, what are generally recommendable, and which ones to avoid, etc.
>>
>>55483419
Just check the ones in the pic. HIS hasn't shown theirs yet. There's also eVGA which is Nvidia only. Sapphire usually has the best cards for AMD. The rest is really hit and miss.
>>
>>55483419
For AMD, Sapphire and XFX are the top tier. Many people say Sapphire is the toppest tier.

Gigabyte and MSI are pretty good.

Asus has a sketchy history on AMD cards and usually just slap a cooler from their NVIDIA lineup onto it without putting in much effort.

All in all, they'd all perform well because, at the end of the day, they're all the same basic card. The slight differences come from the degree to which the cards are overclocked by the company, the quality of fans they've strapped on, the visually design if you like it or not, and the warranty/aftermarket care. Sapphire and XFX tend to have good warranties and their 480s have replaceable fans so if one of your fans die, you can just ask for a new fan from them instead of having to buy a completely new graphics card.

Personally I would only buy 1-Sapphire, 2-MSI, 3-XFX I don't know about PowerColor and I would stop playing games if I had to use Asus. MSI is usually the best over clocker and cooler when it comes to AMD cards. MSI also turns out a lot of AMD cards you can in rare cases get a bad card. As stated, this is my personal opinion.

>>55483532
That's the only time XFX have fucked up though. They fixed it for the 390(X) rebrands too and their 7000 series coolers were god tier (better than Sapphire's even). It's sad that they have such a shit reputation these days, although Sapphire are objectively the best AMD partner.

The rx480 is cheaper at both the bullshit MSRP Nvidia's trying to trick everyone into paying attention to, as well as the actual real price you're going to see on shelves. In addition to being more powerful. And DX12 ready. And with similar power draw (wow 30w, big deal).

Thats actually true, but not always, specially at the release. In my country the 970 is cheaper than the 390, and the 980 is cheaper than the 390x.

The 380 beat the 960

XFX's reputation has gone far longer than that. They've been known to use cheap components. Nvidia 8XXX series and AMD 5XXX series had a bunch of issues because of that.

Hm. I wonder if there is something wrong with PCWorld's testing methodology.

>Meanwhile in compatibility mode, there is a very small performance hit, though it varies with the game. Compared to standard mode, we’re looking at no more than a 1fps performance drop (~3%), with some games losing only a fraction of a frame per second. That there is a performance drop is consistent – so compatibility mode isn’t free – but overall the performance change is within the +/- 2% margin of error for these benchmarks.

MSI normally has the better overclocking a abilities, but below average cooling.

Sapphire is the to go brand for AMD, it's not the greatest overclocker, but it normally runs the coolest, and quietest, best fan profiles out of all the companies for sure.

XFX is a good average brand, they don't try to do anything special, however, it seems they do somewhat of a shitty job keeping vRAM cool. Okay overclock abilities.

Powercolor is average, designs are a bit edgy, cooling is probably second to sapphire, but stock fan profiles might be a little shitty. Pretty decent overclockers, if you get lucky.

Gigabyte is okay, generally decent cooling, and overclock abilities, however, greater chance at coil whine. They just look cheaply built overall.

Asus is pure garbage, everything they make is pure shit. They get good chips too, but they are too jew to actually design a cooler that actually fits or works. If you want a hot card, coil whine, a house fire, and bluescreens, then this is your go to card.

>AotS naturally
>Hitman reboot
>Quantum Break

>Total War: Warhammer
>The Gears of War remaster
>Rise of the Tomb Raider (enabled in a patch a few days ago)

With commonly used engines like UE, Cryengine, Frostbyte and even Unity getting better and better support for DX12, including async shaders, performance on AMD hardware is just going to get better and better as DX12 adoption continues to pick up steam.

I'm personally using a GTX 970 that I bought last autumn and haven't owned an discrete ATI/AMD card since the Radeon X1600, but I'm not blind to what's going on in games right now tech wise.

As someone currently with a 270, the 480 represents more or less twice the performance. Might go for the 1060 though, not decided until benches are out.
