why is 60 fps in youtube videos alot smoother than in actual games? only 120-144 feels like youtube 60 fps smooth for me.

FUCK OFF

>>55479061
placebo effect, it's the same. if you even notice a skipping at 60 on a game you're imagining it. games are totally smooth until around 30 fps.

It's not even good bait

These replies are giving me cancer, look up frame timings; your frames ingame are mismatched with the refreshing of your monitor which causes two things, tearing and juttering. This is why vsync was made but this introduces input lag due to the gpu having to wait for the monitor to refresh. Gsync/freesync was made to combat this but is quite expensive currently.

End yourselves.

First off, most video content has some levels of motion blur in it which helps with the perceived fluidity of motion. Secondly, being in control of the events on the screen makes you much more prone to noticing any kind of stutter or delay in it. Controlling the camera in-game with your mouse can feel stuttery at 60 fps, especially if you are used to 120 frames per second or above. Watching a video with no user input is different and most stuff is shot in a way which makes it easy/predictable for us to follow unlike in a video game where you can do fast and complex movements. Thirdly, frame timings >>55479283

thanks, i usually play all my games with V-sync on and never really noticed input lag. i use a 144hz monitor.
>>
>>55479061
It's because videos have motion blur. Try pausing and see if the frame is as clear as in-game, it's not.

motion blur

>>55479334
This.
>>
game FPS fluctuates qute alot
video FPS is precise and constant and decent video players use high frequency timers to synchronize frames so the jitteriness is well below perceivable levels
>>
>>55479283
Basically this.

It's even the point with like 50fps video on 60fps.
That's why broadcasters spend hundreds of thousands of pounds on machines to convert between 50fps and 60fps television signals for international broadcasts.
>>
I've noticed that newer video codecs such as VP8 and VP9, which youtube uses, tend to almost have a "motion blur" effect, presumably due to the way it reconstructs the image

I know not much of the actual technical specs but i think that's what you're seeing, combined with the fact that a video player doesn't have input lag for you to feel
>>
>>55479061

video artefacts and compression will smooth out a hell of a lot of things such as micro-stuttering and input or network latency, never mind that it's always a far smoother affair watching someone play because there's never going to be that disconnect of playing something at 60~fps and controlling a character
>>
i play some games at 60 fps locked with v-sync on the fps doesn't come close to 60 fps video smooth
>>
>>55479061
Because when you see 60fps on YouTube the fps will be constantly 60 and never go below or above 60, but when actually playing a game the fps will always go up or down by small amounts making it not feel as smooth.

If you play games at over 100hz you won't run into this problem but even then a YouTube constant 60 fps video will look really smooth in comparison, if properly displayed at 60fps with no dropped frames.

Variable fps and frame times basically make real world playing feel not as smooth, basically.

Also some of these replies are fucking hilariously stupid
>>
>>55479275
but they are
the only time you notice anything is if there are severe 10fps drops
>>
>>55480630
Kek.

Get your eyes tested, seriously. Under 60 fps is pure trash unplayable.

30 is subhuman levels of FPS. I can't believe people think 30fps is okay for playing games. Disgusting, really.

Get your eyes checked. You'll see the difference kiddo

hi /r/pcmasterrace, when are you going to stop browsing /g/ and stay in your containment site? Oh and while you're at it, learn English.
>>
>>55480605
so even v-sync'd 60 fps isnt enough to make stuff really smooth?
>>
>>55480738
Seriously it's pathetic people like you even exist that put up with such outdated garbage and are happy with it because you've never been given the chance to see past 30 fps.

It's like your dumb little mind has been brainwashed into this """cinematic""" frame rate.

"50fps is g-good!!!11" - nobody fucking ever

Again, 0/10 try harder.

If you think anything below 120fps is smooth then you need your eyes checked end of discussion kys

I have this same effect to and idk what it is ... also if the window with the video gets smaller the refresh rate gets better as well to my eyes . I'm serious placebo calling retards have no eyes.

>>55479061
Minchi really drags this anime down
>>
>>55479120
lmao. If you play league of legends and you get more than 60 fps try setting the fps cap to 30 or even 25. You'll see that it doesn't look nearly as smooth. Also a big part of this is that the more fps you have, the more responsive the game feels as the time diference between when you do something and when you see it happen get's smaller.
