I've seen no change in the past six years. Are you sure you're not just looking back on it with nostalgia? We still have a few rare really interesting threads discussing hardware architectures, the intricacies of low level software and other such things. The GTX 970 "memorygate" bullshit actually brought that element out, along with a whole lot of shitposting.
