Why would the distro matter? What you're looking for is the DE. KDE is what you want.
Linux Mint. You get the wide support of an Ubuntu base, but the traditional desktop environment that's familiar to windows users.
As a new user, you'll definitely ubiquitous distro w/ lots of support.

i just tried pinguy from a recommendation from a website as good for beginners... they compared it to zorin, elemantary, and solus...
and pinguy beat them all out so i was curious to try it and...
it's slow as shit! slower than windows 7.

Install Ubuntu and move the Unity launcher to the bottom. Feels just like Windows crossed with OSX.
