Will I be cucking myself if I buy a 1080 for 1080p 144hz gaming?
>>
Yes, get a 1070
>>
Absolutely. Good luck running modern games at that refresh rate, even below 1080p, you'd have some trouble.
>>
>>55397749
Em yes im playing 144hz on 1440p with 2x780 now calculate how much your single gpu and my both gpu's cost
>>
>>55397749
It's actually pretty good for that.

I mean you want to buy the best card you can get for 144hz and the 1080 is the best right now.
>>
>>55397749
Can it do 4k60fps? if it can do 4k60fps then it can very easily do 2k144fps
>>
Could a 1080 do 1440/144hz?
>>
>>55397846
Thats harder than 4k60fps
>>
>>55397807
Lol, 2x780 costs the same as 1x1080.
>>
>>55397881
Ah ok lol nope not in my country a used 780 costs around 200$ and a new 1080 around 750-800$
>>
>>55397901
>not in my country
Pretty sure used shit is cheaper than new shit in other countries too.
>>
>>55397858
How does 1070 for 1440p 60fps?
>>
>high end cards aren't needed at 1080p!!!

I love this meme

How about downsampling from 4K you fuckers, because most games only support FXAA nowadays and that's gay as shit

Really we're not even at the point where 4K downsampling is feasible without multi GPU yet unless you enjoy below 50FPS

And high levels of TXAA are expensive too
>>
GOOGLE THE FUCKING BENCHMARKS
>>
you would definitely benefit if you used adaptive vsync or similar tech.
>>
>>55397940
77.4 fps average over 15 different games according to PC Gamer for the 1070 at 1440p.

Lifelong AMD bro here, I'm legit buying a 1070 for 1080/144 Hz as soon as prices and stock settle a little. It's a great price performer for high end stuff even at the sort of scalpy prices it is selling for now. ($450-$470 in the US).

Yea sure i just want to tell you guys that my two old boys are doing their job quite well for little money
I bought them when their were new so i just want to mention that old cards are still pretty powerful even when they are cheap

i love that meme even more
>devs dont care about msaa
>devs care about fxaa
wtf nigga
>>
>>55397749
You get cucked anyway, no async compute.
>>
>>55397972
Keep in mind that this is not a good indicator of shit. Better to look at the games case by case basis because fps never goes below like 10 but is not limited in the other direction. If 77 is avarage that means for every game like tf2 or csgo or overwatch that run 150 fps, there are two games that run 30 fps.
>>
>>55398006
It's not a meme. Prove me wrong.
>>
>>55397846
Not very well.
>>
>>55397949
Even the Witcher 3 just barely hits 60fps with a 1080 at 1080p.

Honestly as games get more graphically intense, the 1080 will be a fine 1080p card.
>>
>>55398001
And a new motherboard along with it?
>>
>>55398053
msaa implementation is in most cases flipping a flag, that why you can force it via the driver panel
fxaa requires a shader based implementation in the drawing pipeline and cant be injected cleanly without corrupting the ouput in most cases
get the fuck back to >>>/v/ !
>>
>>55398012
This.

The important part is not the average, but the minimum.

Even the 1080 will dip below 60 on some games at 1080p

Buying used graphics cards is a gamble. Some times it works and some times it doesn't. These things take a beating day in and day out for enthusiasts and those are usually the kind of users that go through the bother of re-selling their formerly high end shit online.

It's worth spending a little more for the warranty and RMA-ability by buying new. Just my opinion.

>>55398001
Fuck AMD. Sick of the disappointments and so far the 1070 and 1080 appear to be more than capable of handling DX12.

>>55398012
Min was 44.4 FPS. I'm not saying it's a perfect metric either but it gives you a general idea of where cards stack up right at this point in time when subjected to the same segment of games. Yeah, there are some shillworks games in that composite but what the fuck are you going to do?
>>
>>55397749
Better to wait for next gen, if you can. This gen still can't into async compute.

Or, just wait six months or whatever for a 1080ti that's 30% faster than that 1080.
>>
>>55398092
>in most cases

Nice lies bro, might want to play a game made this decade because engines stopped supporting it and it can't be flicked on. Name a recent game where that works. Plus, MSAA is worthless without temporal AA and that's difficult to implement.

Meanwhile, FXAA can literally be switched on on every fucking game without corrupting shit, via driver setting. Case in point every UE3 game ever made.
>>
>>55398149
FXAA looks like absolute shit though. Worse than the aliasing it removes.
>>
>>55398182
That's what I said in my first post.

mITX is pointless. I'd rather have decent airflow, and the ability to upgrade rather than have to throw everything away and start from scratch.
>>
>>55397749
1440p is way better.
>>
>>55398359
What if you want to have a system that is actually portable
>>
>>55398359
>memes
You can upgrade all the components on an ITX motherboard, you just lack room for expansion. So if you're like most people, you only have a GPU in the PCIe slots, and maybe a wifi card but you can just get a motherboard with that built in. You can upgrade your CPU, GPU, ram, hard drive/SSD, etc etc in an ITX build. The only think you're missing out on is the expansion slots, so if you don't use those, then mini ITX is just fine.

As for air flow, there are plenty of good low profile coolers like the NH L12 and most ITX cases can accommodate water cooling. It's not a huge deal, especially if you're not planning on overclocking that much.

With all this 1070/1080 hooplah, I need a second opinion on how to not waste my money.....
>Basically, I want a card that's cool and quiet and has a minimum of 60FPS for the most demanding games at 1080P
>I currently have a GTX 980 Ti, but it's loud as fuck in my current case (Define R4)
>As a disclaimer, I'm super anal about case noise
>A GTX 1070 would fit the bill, if not for the fact that it's $100 over MSRP and I don't want to limit myself if there's a sudden jump in graphics overhead
>I also have a GTX 980 and a GTX 960, one I bought from a friend as a favor, and one from a previous HTPC build
>I could sell those, but the resell value for all of those is currently in the shitter

I can almost guess what the answer is, but I thought I should ask anyways......
>>
>>55398857
Why not just install water cooling on your 980ti?
>>
>>55398857
dude, kludge some wc_loop+radiator onto that 980ti for no noise
why would you even think about """upgrading""" from that to yet another meme card? wth man...
>>
>>55397845
>4k is two times the pixel count of 2k
>somehow going to 2k will yield 2.3X frames
You need to go back to math class my dude
>>
>>55398115
So the GTX 1080 averages less than 144fps in most games at 1080p. Sounds like perfect choice for 1080p 144hz. Not to mention that games will get more demanding, not less. I have no issue running at medium to hit higher frames, but people who can afford it don't want to do that.

>there are multiple IPS 144 hz 1440p monitors
>not a single 1080p 144 hz IPS

I just don't understand. Anything above 1080p is a meme resolution. More workspace is nice, but that's why people use multiple monitors.
>>
>>55399543
not every 144fps scenario is a 3d heavy workload
but yeah, w would rather have multiple low bezel displays than one single insane resolution one (if any of those breaks its cheap to replace, if the monstrosity breaks its not. im not even gonna touch the outdated in a year thingy)
>>
>>55398359
ITX is great because you save space and it looks way better than a gigantic tower.

It is harder to build in and you need some special parts, but it's way worth it.
>>
>>55398857
>Upgrading from 980ti for 1080p

Just sell the 980 and 960 and put the money towards a nice liquid cooling loop. It would be less noise, and you could potentially have the cooling so allow for some overclocking. Then you'd get less noise and a performance boost.
>>
It's called the 1080 for a reason.
