Yo. My friend gave me his GPU (vapor x hd 5770 1GB DDR5) which requires 500W PSU. Problem is that I have 400W PSU. Will it work if I install it? Any suggestions?

Bump???

Yea, go for it fâm.

Yes
>>
Are you sure guys? What is the worst case scenario if I install it?
>>
If it's a good quality 400W (has at least bronze efficiency rating) it will be fine. Also depends on how power other components in the system will need.

Your computer doesn't turn on. Or it just goes off at some point. Don't know how modern video cards/PSUs handle it, but ten years ago I put a TV card into my computer that the PSU couldn't handle. It just didn't boot, that's all. Took a network card out and it worked again.

>made to be special

that psu is kawai as fuck
>>
>>55362220
That's a nasty no name brand chink PSU but in all seriousness it'll probably be fine. The GPU won't pull more than 120W on it's own but it depends on all the other system components (motherboard, the amount of PCI cards and HDD installed, etc) and the combined power requirement under full load.
>>
>>55362220
Yeah no, that PSU is so old and outmoded its not even funny anymore. Any half decent PSU these days converts primarily to 12v with some of that 12v tapped off for 5 and 3.3v

Get a new unit, even a basic 350W antec unit would be superior to that piece of shit.

Run far, far away.

How can I see my power consumption?
Maybe there is a way to adjust some shit and make it work?
>>
>>55362572
You can use a power calculator. They'll give you a rough idea as long as you input the correct details.

You'd be fine with a 350-400W PSU.

This one should do nicely: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371033&cm_re=380W_PSU-_-17-371-033-_-Product

Antec may not be the best but for a budget they're solid units.
>>
You ever get that feeling of deja vu?
>>
Can someone rec me a good budget psu? My budget is around 50$.

I once buy a no name psu and it explode (without breaking the whole system, just smokes and flash) after 10 hours of gaming

OP I ran a Core2Duo with multiple HDDs, DVDs and a 8800GTS (and that thing was a fucking powerhog, 90nm) on a fucking 360watt PSU.

Yeah, your PSU is old and grey, but nothing will happen to it. It simply wont turn on if its not powerful enough, so stick that bitch in.
>>
>>55361744
Yeah for sure your PSU totally won't burn.
>>
>>55363246
Here, OP you junk consumes 265W under load, whole system. And the test system was running an OC'ed Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 @3,8 Ghz so nothing to worry about.
