Didn't see a single RX 480 thread.
Opinions?
Lackluster or a power cluster?

Have you been browsing /g/ with your eyes closed for the past 3 days?
pretty good

literally 32 gpu thread hidden atm, 99% about rx480

More like three minutes? Yes, I have.

False
>>55355737
no it isn't fuck off faggot shill
>>55355521
It's cheap, otherwise I'm not impressed.
It's hot, not efficient compared to the competition, and overclocks like dogshit in typical AMD fashion.
But yeah, it's cheap, so it might still be a good option for many people
>>55355521
Low overclocking, very poor efficient vs the nvidia cards, poor performance, draw too much power, the cf leak was biased.
A disappointment.
>>55355737
its hotter. 1080 goes to 82% if you dont setup msi or something similar for them.
The 480 does like late 80s early 90s.
I returned mine before Newegg shipped it because of the PCIe debacle but it appears it's fixable via software changes, pretty stoked for the aftermarket cards especially that sapphire nitro cheesegrater, custom cooling and an 8 pin connector should make the card pretty damn amazing in every respect
The only question is when the 3rd party cards will come out, I hope it's mid July and not end of july
>>55355521
T R A S H card, Period
reference model doesn't look good but the aftermarket ones should prove alright
if that pcie slot thing is more than just a software allowing it to draw than that of the standard theres gonnna be some serious house fires
>>55356483
Nop, the performance per watt is too low.

I'm really torn between buying the 480 or a 970.
RX 480 has better DX12 support and 8gigs so it seems more future proof, but i'll fund islamic terror by paying for it
GTX 970 has shadow player and will be better with the next elder scroll title.
I wish i had something to tip the scale.
Do you remember this shit? The power issue reminded me of it.
>tfw when you're a poor faggot and have to buy poo products
I HATE THIS
>Not buying AMD to heat up your room
>Not buying AMD to just pay your electric bill instead of your heating bill
>Not having a PC that can provide heat for a small Ukrainian family

People here shilling and complaining on the forums with their "first posts here" are all about the reference model. It supposedly fries PCIe slots because only having a 6 pin connector. Custom models have 8 pin, along with better cooling, which should result in no problems at all.
Of course the reference model is crap.
>>55359246
I'll believe it when I see it.

http://m.hexus.net/tech/news/graphics/94082-sapphire-asus-msi-tease-custom-amd-rx-480-cards/
The reference card appears to be a bit of a botch job, the card clearly needs more power than advertised, the consensus being the 14nm process and is using is not ideal, meaning the card is not as efficient as AMD planned.
With aftermarket cards with an additional 6pin for power around the corner, all the power spec bullcrap will go away
>>55355737
This is the RX 480 heatsink
The GPU isn't a space heater. The reference cooler just blows.
>>55358846
Next elder scrolls title will be wont be dx 11. There is plays.tv that does same shit as shadow player
>>55355521
>Opinions?
It can't compete with nvidia's current (and even some of the last) generation GPU's the only thing it's got going for it is being cheap.
The card needs a custom cooler to stay cool and silent so you'll have to spend some additional $$$ just to keep the thing from becoming a room heater.
Also you can barely OC it etc. AMD hyped the RX 480 into the heavens which adds alot to the disappointment.
Someone please explain to me why everyone is freaking out over the PCIe shit?
Does this card not have power connectors to the PSU and just draws what it needs? Why would it be drawing power from the mobo?
>>55355521
It's so far the best GPU of the year so that's saying something. Card of the year most likely.
>>55361502
Pcie slot delivers 75w safely. A 6 pin connector delivers 75w safely (how they are rated). Combined the gpu has 150w to work with. It uses more than that, and tests show it using more than the rated 75w on the mobo, spurring fears and reports of failed mobos bcuz the rx 480.
When AiB gpus come around they will offer an 8 pin taking care of the issue
>>55356245
I've heard that AIB cards will be released around july 11
>>55361502
>Why would it be drawing power from the mobo?
Because AMD fucked up bad, it draws more power than its supposed to, it shuts down & destroys pcie slots.
