doing professional ios development is pro enough? No. As an interior designer I can tell you that aluminium and glass is starting to look rather aged, so much so that even Apple are moving away from it in their buildings. Don't know why they haven't updated the look of their MacBooks when the iPhone has moved away from that design as well. I personally love the look of the new HP spectre but it doesn't fit my use case.

You got lucky. Most Macbook Pros sold from 2009 and 2013 had huge heat related flaws like discrete graphics and logic board failures. Apple is facing several massive class action lawsuits over them and they were forced to repair these machines for free and extend the free repair program until the end of this year just to avoid several billion dollar settlements.
Apple, being the faggots they are, just replaces the defective part with another defective part though so the problem continues to happen.
