Will this be the next big search engine?
Images are sometimes not shown due to bandwidth/network limitations. Refreshing the page usually helps.

Some stats...
>>
I find it more useful than duckduckgo.
>>
>>55339037
I find it more honest than DuckDuckGo and its founder's hypocritical past.
>>
No because there's no reason to switch from google
>>
>>55339015
You can't fucking beat Google's algorithms. They're literally trying to take over the world
>>
Not when 'google it' is ingrained in to every normie's brain.
>>
>>55339037
Yes, but you should host an instance yourself because you can't verify if a public one is running public code.
>>
How do they obtain their results? What's the details on their indexer?
>>
>>55339015
its slow as fuck. gtfo
>>
I've been already using it for a week now and I'm in love. I'm just struggling to implement it into my Firefox's built-in search engines.
>>
>>55339448
>Click about
>Click install searx
>Click OK
Was that so hard?
>>
>>55339015
What does it do differently from Google?
Why would anyone switch?

Muh privacy isn't a valid reason. Using it because you're a hipster also isn't a valid reason.
>>
>>55339461
Already done that but does not matter what I type in the Search bar, it just sends me to plain searx.me without any query, for some reason I don't understand.
>>
Just another metasearch
>>
>>55339015
Never, and I say this as someone who uses it as their main. At the end of the day, it's just another meta-search engine or frontend for Jewgle.
>>
>>55339488
Have you tried it with all addons disabled?
>>
>>55339502
I have none
>>
>>55339442
It's a metasearch-engine you moron

>>
>>55339488
Try deleting it from manage search engines and re-adding it from the Firefox add-ons page. Or find and install it from the Mycroft Project page.
>>
>search boobs
>all censored
>go to preference
>safe search is already off
is there something i am missing?

Startpage can generate a url with your preferences
is it safe or they can track you?
>>
>a privacy-respecting
how far does it go to protect my privacy.

I mean, literally everything on the planet claims to 'protect your privacy', to the point it's almost a buzzword.
>>
>>55339502
I lie, I forgot about AdBlock, the only extension I have, but disabling it doesn't help...
>>
>>55339475
>muh privacy isn't a reason
Why not? Because you say so?

GTFO you "nothing to hide nothing to fear" adult sheep
>>
>>55339556
Unlike startpage, it's open source.
>>
>>55339488
Did you mess with your referer settings?
>>
>>55339539
Hey, works now! Thanks anon.
>>
>>55339567
>Why not?
Because nothing actually protects your fucking privacy at the moment except using tor.

Nothing clearnet related will ever be 'privacy respecting'.
>>
>>55339614
And I'm not sure we can be so sure about Tor itself...
>>
>>55339645
Tor is fine for now if you have proper OPSec.

But to claim a search engine is going to actually stop subpoenas and prying eyes is absurd. Privacy is a very vague term.

What they're actually saying is they probably do not track your browsing habits, or at the very least give your browsing data to 3rd parties.

Sure, that's technically 'privacy-respecting', but don't expect to search illegal shit via your plain IP.
>>
>>55339614
CloudFlare can block Tor users.

Doesn't that tell you something?
>>
>>55339645
oh god this meme.

>Muh privacy isn't a valid reason
Stupid ignorant trash. Get out.
>>
Are there search engines that ignore robots.txt or have the ability to search by filetype like Google?
>>
Google is the best search for normies.

DDG is the best search for everyone else.

Bing Video is the best search for porn videos.

Until one engine does what Google/DDG and Bing Video can do simultaneously, fuck all other search engines.
>>
I've been using startpage for ages. I like it better.
>>
>>55339408
Google doesn't even want people using the word like that, but it's too late now.

same problem here, seenms to be a problem with the new layout, it was working fine a few das agon on searx 0.8.1 with firefox 49
>>

it actually does just that, you can enable all of your favorite search engines in serx settings.
>>

no it doesn't

>Startpage can generate a url with your preferences
>is it safe or they can track you?
Any website that you visit has the potential to track you. You only have their word that no logs are stored. The generated link is so it works without cookies. Too lazy to check myself but if you're paranoid
>generate link with desired settings
>save link
>change ip (change mac address on router then do a dhcp renew)
>use another browser or spoof to different user agent so your browser fingerprint changes
>generate link again with same settings
>compare to previous one
>if they match you know they're based on settings and nothing unique to track you

>>55343099
Startpage works great for me when it comes to text search but image search is kinda shit compared to Google so I always end up returning to the botnet for images.
>>
I've used it the last month and I really like it. Sometimes it's stutters when entering a search bar, just like I have with Startpage. The results are good, just a little les accurate as Jewgle. The instant answers works fucking amazing, even better than Jewgle tbqh

Two things that bother me are the switches in the preferences menu. Green means that it's enabled, but it says block. It's stupid and should be replaced with a slider or something.
The other thing is the lay out customization. DuckDuckGo has a superior tool to change the font, size and colors. With SearX you can only choose from three-four preset themes.

also the SearX logo kinda sucks
>>
>>55339015
You're delusional if you think Google will ever be beaten
>>
>>55343162
Google only doesn't want that because once a brabd name becomes established lexicon for a larger variety of goods or services, it can lose copyright.
This is why "Duct Tape" is now Duck Tape, for example, and Super Glue is now Crazy Glue. Rebranding to get ahead of loss of copyright.
>>
>>55345663
what are you even attempting to test?
googles "all" equates to searx "general"

botnet

>>

> Sorry! we didn't find any results. Please use another query or search in more categories.

maybe i don't know how to use it. show me how to get the same result as google.
>>
>>55346132
>same results
are you retarded? google changes your results by comparing it to what it thinks it knows about you. this makes that results for everyone vary, even when they all use google.
it also makes it impossible to show the same result.
what i am saying is that you can get the same quality of results or even better ones by using more than one search engine at once, especially if you do not use google in the sources.

Wouldn't running your own instance sort of defeat it's purpose?

If you use the public SearX, your searches are masked because they go through SearX, but if you host your own instance, and you're the only one using it, then it's obvious that all the searches from that SearX are you.
>>
>>55346185
not if you use g! from ddg. that's literally the only reason i'm using it right now, those bangs are pretty comfy and works well.

>>55346419
i've genuinely asked how to achieve something like that.
>>

you install it on a VPS and route your stuff through it like a VPN

Can you search for cheese pizza on it without getting cooked?

thanks

Is there a way to have image size option (2MP, 4MP etc...) on startpage like google images have?

One person uses one VPS. Single point of failure retard. If the feds reach the VPS host, and say "we will come at you with the full force of the law" do you really think they're going to protect your IP?

Come on now, son.
