Wew what a disappointment rx480 is
>>55324261
Is it though? Seems like it hit exactly where it was supposed to. Right between GTX 960 and GTX 980. It trades blows with the GTX 970 and it costs a good $80-100 less than the GTX 970 did.
I mean, it's not going to beat a GTX 1070 or anything like that, but that isn't the market it's going for, it costs $150-200 less than a GTX 1070.

Hey /g/, this is my first build, my GPU just got here two hours ago and I literally just put it in right before taking this picture
I have two questions, please help a noob -
Where does my case fan plug go? Is my mobo incompatible with that kind of port? Because I don't see where it would go anywhere on my mobo.
If it is incompatible, it is not bad if I just leave the side panel open to compensate for not using an exhaust fan, right?
Secondly, now that I have everything assembled, do I have to boot into the BIOS and change anything? I haven't even turned it on yet.

>>55344040
>why is there not anything in place to mitigate the damages it causes
There are, higher end motherboards will generally have steel reinforced PCIe slots.
>>55343853
The PSU is on eco-mode. The PSU fan doesn't even spin until >300W drawn, or it hits 65 degrees.
Unless I play games, the PSU fan is not spinning. Pretty silent... Plus the Seasonic logo would be upside down, and the glue is really tight to flip the sticker. So I'm okay with it like this.

It's not going to be resolved until they release a card that draws proper power from PSU connectors, or they hard limit the PCIE draw which with tank the performance as it will not get enough power. Pick one because there are only two ways they can deal with it.
Any idea why my physics score is so low? No OC.
This is the secondary so people stop asking to use mine... got a full size MOBO and more memory coming in next week, all black. It's scary so they love it.

>>55352682
How much PSU do you need for those anyway? Will 550W do?
>>55352817
The recommended PSU is 500 watts, I only notice a 40 watt power draw difference from when I had my 970. So 550 should be more than enough.
>>55351991
My physics score wasn't that much better than yours to be honest. I'm fully stock apart from 3000MHz RAM on that result.

>>55351991
Background processes running?
Physics score is pure CPU and RAM from what I understand so background processes can have a decent impact on the result.
My 5820k manages ~17k when OC'd to 4.5GHz.
Poor result overall because im waiting for a 1070 to upgrade this 960.
So I'm in the middle of relocating my Fury to a vertical position in my C70. I'm waiting on my riser cable to come on Saturday. Also I shimmed the bottom contact point for the card so it won't hang crooked. Red straws will be replaced with bolts or something. Also the lights aren't blue like my potato camera shows.

Remove the Molex to PWM adapter so you're left with the PWM plug (Green Arrow), you appear to have a PWM header at the side (Red Arrow), it should go in there. If that's not a PWM plug just look for a header marked "CASE_FAN [X]" with 3-4 pins If it's 4 but your fan header has 3, plug it in the first 3 pins, there should be a keying mechanism preventing you from plugging it in wrong.

>>55359933
>everyone seems to hate AMD
Download CPU-Z if you don't have it installed then go over to the "bench" tab and run a quick bench then compare it to the 6700k (it should provide a drop down list of reference CPUs you can compare yours to)
A 6700k gets about 2100 single core performance, remember single core performance is most important for gaming and other common tasks. Most games only really use 2-4 cores right now, a handful take advantage of 8 cores, but not many.
People don't hate AMD so much as people hate that AMD can't compete with Intel performance.
>>55359933
>9590
I sure hope you have a good cooler on that thing.
Regardless, it's pretty comparable to a 2600k. So you're at least within 5 years of modern CPU performance. You should have just bought a 6600(k). AM3(+) is on the verge of defunct and you're going to be stuck upgrading a lot of shit just to get a new CPU.

That's not 150 different.
The multicore score should be similar, it's a quad core with hyperthreading vs a real 8 core.
However as we've already discussed the VAST majority of games use 2-4 cores.
Also the fact an 8 core CPU still can't beat a stock quad core 6700k in multithreaded performance is kinda sad.

>>55367196
For a first time it's not bad at all. That said there's still notable issues. You have cable management spots, don't neglect them. Make use of them and pull all the slack of all cables back there. It's not a heat issue, as you don't have an overclocking CPU, but a $20 CPU cooler will be quieter and do a better job. You're obviously still missing drives, but that's not so much an issue as it is just an observation. As for a new GPU - wait to see what nvidia puts out as the GTX 1060. If AMD fixes the issues with the RX 480 and the 1060 performs only marginally better and costs more then go with the 480. That's a fun case to work with, though certainly not the best you could have gotten for $50-$60. Coworker bought one for the build I set him up with. I let my "clients" choose what case they want, though I base recommend the NZXT Source 210 as its consistently $25.
Would a 3570k @ 4.2ghz really be a limiting factor in any games or apps nowadays?

Considering a 2500k is still fully sufficient against the highest end AMD offerings, no. It will not limit you substantially enough to warrant an upgrade for everyday use and in gaming. If you're doing something that requires intensive rendering or other CPU bound tasks, then it's up to you pending how much you want to spend for better performance.
Got one of these on the way, along with a 1080, 6700k, Corsair HX1000i, and some other goodies.
What do you guys think of the case?

The 480 is a good chip but it's seriously held back by its shitty reference board and cooler. When vendor cards come out that can hit 1.5GHz the 480 is going to shine.
>>55368251
Yeah okay buddy
>>55368251
t. 390 edgelord
>>55368251
honestly considering this beauty over the sapphire shower head!
>>55368371
I'm probably going to spring for the Powercolor model. They made the best 390 and 270x and are almost always cheaper than the competition.
>>55326287
> Worst girl
At least is looks like you put some love into it.
>>55368236
If I didn't already own the non tempered model I'd pick it up
>>55369468
You take that back Baka!
>>55368251
It's also held back by virtue of being an AMD card
>>55368236
looks slick
im waiting for this qt
>>55361550
How much of a pain is it to replace the top fans in that case? I have a noctua u14s and I think once it's in it would be impossible to access them. The 750d might be a better option.

>>55326119
GIT GUD plebs. Look at my ram fan you scrubs.
>>55372448
If I wasn't already committed to building a full sized gaming machine, I'd honestly give micro ATX stuff a shot. Miniature cases with carefully arranged cooling and cable management are so damn comfy.
did anybody ever own this weird fucking thing besides me
>>55374438
Me, it still works.
>>55368251
>>55324261
I did convince myself it isnt that bad after i posted that comment, but now i read it has pcie power draw issues and ill be getting relatively cheap motherboard. Shit scares me.
>>55375630
AMD released a statement saying its not a big issue but they're fixing it in drivers anyway
yes i took a pic trough the dirty shitty plastic window to lazy to open it.
Still have some work to do with the cables.
>>55333757
I have the same card. It could seriously benefit from a backplate. I ended up using black zip ties to take the weight. Had to go through the fan, but the blades don't make contact so its OK I guess.
>>55375814
"It's not a big issue" except it is, their driver fixes are only going to ruin the cards performance more since it won't be getting enough power. Bunch of fucking idiots
>>55375814
Anon how are they going to fix a hardware issue through drivers, this is exactly the same stupid shit when nvidiots said they can fix the ayyysync compute issues with drivers.
>>55378298
>>55378216
they're underclocking the memory to get round it.
and thats why you don't buy reference
>>55378398
Like I said, the only way they can fix it is by gimping their own card. Fuck this launch was a train wreck, hopefully the aftermarket designers aren't fucking incompetent like AMD.
Got a much quieter case fan in there, even though its always on max RPM its not as loud as a fucking hair dryer like the old fan was.
Dust filters are going to be a must, ive had this machine on and running (according to ubuntu at least) for a grand total of 14 hours and its already filled with dust.
>>55379021
looks good finally finished anon
>>55379236
thanks, i like how it came out, i like my tiny GPU aswel
for what it can do i dont feel like upgrading to a 750ti to be honest, i dont want to have to plug in GPU power on my chinkshit PSU
>>55380082
how are your temps with only those rads? i have the same big phobya up front and i'm not sure if i will need another rad when i want to watercool my 1080 that's coming
>>55380158
I have a 360mm in the basement as well. GPUs never go beyond 45C or so and CPU never goes past 61C that I've seen.
>>55379258
750ti doesn't need gpu power lad
>>55326287
>i'll trade the graphics card for unit 02
>>55380331
really? its PCI power only?
i thought it had a 6 pin on top
>>55380407
Some models do some don't
>>55380452
in that case, would you reccomend EVGA or Zotac
zotac is about 10$ cheaper, both are brand new
also, my chinkshit PSU, someone told me before that even though its advertised as 650w, because its a 30amp 12v rail, its only putting out 360w maximum
my build + a 750ti on partpicker shows 56-201w of power required, would i be ok with that tolerance of +100w?
i intend to replace the PSU in the future, but im not going particularly hard on the build as is, and everything is unplugged when im not using it
