>Still performs well in most games

Cons
> It's not Nvidia, so my Intel CPU hates it and constantly tweaks out when it comes to display connectors/drivers

Good performance, especially for the price I picked it up for ($380AU, so $70 cheaper than the cheapest 970 at the time). Actually looks OK, imo, especially since it ended up matching my MOBO (z77 extreme4) and PSU, which is pretty wacky. Not too loud.

>Dislike
It is still a Sun localized within my PC even with the aftermarket cooler, regularly hitting 95℃ with pretty good airflow (2 fans blowing in, 2 out, 1 in the bottom blowing air up at it). Can get pretty loud at load.

Definitely want to get a card that runs cooler, or at least doesn't require aggressive cooling to keep it under control. It's kind of incongruous with all the other parts in my Define R5 which are, you know, quiet.

Whatever the latest nVidia driver is
MBP (1GB GDDR5 version)

Overclocked to 1050/2500. They overclock like champs.

Good trick for heat is to underclock your CPU since most games are GPU bound and you don't need that CPU turboing up to 3.6 for no reason.

Real problem is it tries to stay under 85w combined load. GPU will throttle like crazy well before thermals are a problem.

Old drivers are fine on windows, but on GNU/Linux games just refuse to launch at all, or run in software mode or something.

Dude! I also have a Dell Optiplex 7010.
My Vostro has a Pentium 1.8GHz and 1.5GB of RAM, gonnna upgrade to a C2D and 4GB of RAM, and I wanted to throw in a GPU.

All I want it to do is play some games at 1366 x 768 and 1080p YouTube videos and shit posting.

I might seem like I dip, but should I also add a 200mm fan on the side panel?
>>
>>55314815
C2D is enough for shitposting, but you have to make sure that you get a GPU for video playback if you want to watch youtube in a web browser.
Also, bloated websites can be kind of slow on a C2D (something like tumblr), so don't expect too much.
I'd recommend at least an i3 and 8 GiBs of ram for comfy web browsing.

Wine-staging runs osu better on my computer, even compared to windows 10, and OBS just works better if I want to record a replay.

Also, I can't live without GNU Emacs, and it's gimped on windows, so I don't want to torture myself.

Oh, and windows uses too much ram, it's almost like I got a GiB of RAM for free when I swithced to arch.

I wanted to hook up from my TV and browse from bed. It is currently usable but kinda slow because of the current parts.

Pentium 1.8GHz and 1.5GB don't do the best for modern web browsing.

This. Windows pretty much requires 2 GiBs of RAM to be usable at all, and Pentium is not enough for anything more than browsing 4chan with 2-3 tabs in Chrome.

I use pentium D boxes with 1 GiB of RAM at school, and even text editing can get hard on them, and I remember the pain of trying to do graphic design on a p4ht 3.0 GHz with 3 GiBs of ram and win7.

It should be good enough for web browsing (just remember that some bloated sites might lag on that setup). You should also be able to play older games on that fine if you want to.

Holy shit, even that would be an upgrade from what I use as a daily driver.

Ran at 60C idle, 85-90C under load. That might be due in part to how I incorrectly installed my cpu fan to blow hot air on the card. It just died last month, giving me an artifacted blue screen when i put it under load (even before it heated up). This blue screen then occured every time i booted into Windows. I managed to boot into Windows again without a bsod once by resetting the drivers, but after putting it under load again it fucked up. I replaced my psu, which only let me load it up a bit more before it crapped out. Should've been more careful about static when handling it...

No I got it a few years ago when I bought my 2008 iMac. Never really tried playing too many games because I know it's pretty weak, it can play San Andreas though so that's enough to keep me satisfied. I'm going to see how upgrading goes when I build a new computer, iirc the max I can go is an MXM 8800GS
>>
I guess this is a good thread to ask in.
What gpu should I upgrade my Dell XPS 420 to? Currently it has a q6600 at 3ghz, ATI HD 3650 (pretty bad), 8gb ddr2, and a 375w psu with 30A on the two 12v rails

I was thinking the 950, is it possible to go with 960? Looking at the power draw of the RX 480 I don't think my psu can handle it (don't want to replace the psu)

Agreed, she's been totally reliable for me going on four years strong now. Definitely going to keep her when she dies.

>>55320779
I've been thinking about it too, but honestly I don't need it. I don't play the latest games, so maybe that factors into it, but as long as I can compromise on things like shadows to keep games at 60fps, then I see no reason to spend money I don't really have chasing the latest greatest thing.

By the time it finally kicks the bucket, I'm sure whatever $200 GPUs are out will be fantastic. The 480 is tempting me though...

Honestly its worked like a champ for years now. I bought it new for $50 from Newegg and its be good. Granted it's only needed to power a 1280x1024 display. I've really only seen it struggle with a few new titles like DaS3 and SFV but it's a little excusable because those games are (or were) poorly made and poorly optimized.

The fan is starting to go. Its a small fan and especially during the summer it has to work hard. I'm proud of this little GPU though. It takes the overclock well and just keeps working. Nice job Powercolor/AMD/ATi

You moron bought the 768MB version. It's all your fault.
Before nvidia driverse destroyed my 460 it was perfectly adequate to play at 1090p AND TO BE OVERCLOCKED AT 900MHZ (=30%).
