Unless you were short on money you could have bought 16 GB of DDR4 as well.

I'd suggest you to post that kind of spechs thread on /v/, that's not an insult, just a matter of topic.

Just testing the mobo / cpu, decided to do some funposting. The SSD is actually not that bad. Just a 10-15% faster OCZ, and it was cheap.

It`s actually an e5-2667 v2 ES which is just a rebinned 2680 with 2 deactivated cores. Still displays as the original, and I just noticed according to this does not support virtualization.. Weird.

Definitely not going to shell out 1000 fucking dollars for the 1680. At that price I could get a haslell or skymeme 6 core system.

I`ll probably just stick with it for now,

>>55310925
You`d only really notice in cpu intensive games with no multi threading. But dunno for sure, check out some benches man. Probably comparable to the guy`s 8350.

>>55310984
I not too long ago used an athlon 64 x2 2ghz with 2gb of ram and an HD3850 while waiting on parts. Seriously, if it had more ram, and 4 cores or a higher clock speed. Was surprisingly usable. Definitely made me take a second look at those cheap little AM1 sockets and comparable intel chips.

I mean it still runs. It's real old yea, and I've bought good parts to carry(case, PSU, cooler, SSD).

I'm just not sure if it's worth it to spend $250 on a mobo, 1x8gb DDR3 and like a G3258. And if the performance increase'll be even noticable.

Or maybe buy some 1151 board with a cheap CPU, then just put in a new Kaby Lake CPU when they arrive?
>>
>>55311118
g.skill has good just werks memory with nice timings.

>>55311185
It really depends on your use case. Do you feel it`s actually showing age? I mean it`s all subjective, but you would undoubtably see a performance increase with just about anything. Having sata III to fully utilize your ssd would be the biggest thing. Newer instruciton sets etc.

The G3258 is a gem and will overclock through the roof, just remember it is strictly dual core, but it is a hell of a bargain. I know the 860k is quite comparable and offers 4 threads, and the 845 is supposed to be better somehow? ANd it`s the same price.

I would seriously consider your use case, and then at the very least slightly overbuild your system. Or you could just shoot for the stars and not have to worry about a new system for another 7-8 years.

Ye. Doing some looking and Kaby Lakes looks to be 1151.

Was just gonna buy a board, some ram and an i3(which should still crush the old Core2) for around $450

But I might just wait until Kaby Lake actually comes out, since DDR4 should drop in price a bit.

>>

Set up a custom fan profile, those fucking things won`t go over 40-50% fan speed until they hit 70C on the stock profile.
>>
>>55312344
what speed would you recommenced?
>>
>>55312370
Personally, I would up the minimum until you can start to hear it, then back that off 5-10%. Let it idle there for a while and see where your temps are at. Then have it increase 5-10% for every ~10C the temp rises.

IIRC, and assuming you have a reference card, most of the reviewers had it top out around 70-75% which kept the chip well under 80c. The official specs state the maximum safe temperature is 94c, but cooler is typically better. The 67c magical temp Nvidia demoed was at 100% fan speed.
