I am so fucking sick of ISPs in America, /g/.
The internet in my hometown (suburban southern California) has been getting progressively worse, and now my package manager barely crawls along at 500 B/s (I'm not forgetting a letter, it's BYTES). Comcast isn't the only offender; AT&T UVerse, our previous ISP, is also very bad, averaging at 500 kB/s.
I want you guys to share your ways of fighting them, if possible, whether this be contacting lawmakers or supporting local ISPs.
For those of you who don't know, ISPs are just about the most corrupt companies out there. They make deals with each other to monopolize certain regions, with about a third of Americans only being able to choose from one ISP. They also lobby for laws that support their crooked practices. That is, they do all that they can to eliminate competition. As a result, they are able to operate on dated architecture with no incentive to lay down new fibers. To support the growing population, they overcharge for low data rates and throttle those who use too much data.
