But ignoring that,
Updates are fine when they are beneficial. But you can't trust MS to have only beneficial updates, which is why the user needs control over said updates.
Generally browser updates are fine AFAIK but you shouldn't be using Chrome at all. Some browsers are just blacklisted by default.
