I'm getting a new laptop this week and I want to make the switch to Linux.

There's too many distros out in there and I can't choose on which to get. I just want one that is easy to use and looks "good" out of the box. What recommendation do you guys have? Don't suggest gentoo please.

i suggest staying out of unity because of "no menu icons meme" - on gnome you can at least enable it. So i guess kubuntu , ubuntu-gnome , fedora gnome/kde , or even open suse is ok for a begginer.
Also this doesnt really deserve a thread
