Most Linux DEs do virtual desktops much better than OSX or Windows. OSX can do it with Mission Control, but it's clunky compared to Linux's Mate or Xfce.

In Linux you have the keyboard shortcuts just like OSX, but you can also have a visual representation via widget on your desktop with a mini diagram of all your windows. Mate and Xfce both also allow you to simply put your cursor on the widget and use the scroll wheel to change desktops.

In OSX, it's like yeah, you can use Ctrl+up to open up Mission Control and you can move your cursor up to see all your desktops, but it's not as fast or convenient as it is in Linux. By comparison it's just cumbersome.

The thought that people think this way over a computer operating system is very very concerning. People joke around about windows users being retarded, but your post seems genuine for some reason.

All things being said, I think you meant GNU/Linux, as GNU/Linux is an operating system, not Linux by itself.

The combination of GNU and Linux is enterprise grade software, just because it does not work on your lappy does not mean it's not good.

Leave /g/ and come back after you've managed a few things, pal.

Ubuntu MATE is also good, but I think it's ugly (Somebody please prove me wrong)
Kubuntu can be good for desktops, apparently it's stable now even if it's kinda hungry for memory.

Use those, then maybe try something like Fedora, Debian testing, or even arch. Skip gentoo unless you like compiling everything.

I have a VirtualBox with Linux Mint Cinnamon and it's pretty gud. But Manjaro with KDE looks great (making a VM atm). I'm a total beginner and want to change slowly to Linux from Windows. Wich is better for me? Mint or Manjaro? And for Mint, is Cinnamon or Mate better?

That UI is inconsistent. They're going for a flat theme but the buttons along the top of that file browser window have shadows which is breaks the flat theme style

If you care about security, don't take Mint. If you care about ease of use, take Mint.

Cinnamon will be closer to Windows. I would rather take Ubuntu Mate instead of Mint with Mate.
>>
>>55277766
who cares, just put a wallpaper that looks nice and use the desktop as you would use your DESK TOP irl: you put everything you are currently working on on it along with some shit that stays there, and periodically clean up... rinse and repeat. Taskbars and other shit are like your drawers and shit.

I'd just like to interject for moment. What you're refering to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.

Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called Linux, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.

There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called Linux distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux!

Yes, it's working flawlessly, haven't had any issues so far. Antergos basically is Arch, but comes with the Cnchi installer. It's using the same package repos like Arch, while Manjaro for instance is using its own.

In the AUR you'll find EVERYTHING.

Good UI designers don't work for free.

>>
>>55285489
But you expect good programmers, who need to know so fucking much more than you and also need to be talented, to work for free?
>>

I don't expect anyone to work for free because I'm not a freetard.

You also need to be a talented UI designer to create one that isn't shit, many large companies have failed to create a good UI (see: Microsoft)

After looking at all those nice desktops i come to the conclusion that all those anti-linux threads are done by jealous windows users. At this moment the only thing where windows wins is on the games area and on certain professional programs only on certain areas, but even the validity of those arguments is shrinking. On the negative side their own software provider threats them like cattle and it just baffles me how some people can condemn honest mistakes but forgive bullshit pushed on them on purpose. I don't have anything against those who use windows but i feel bad for those who lives badmouthing competing products to prove that their operative system is better even if they need to lie or twist truths.
