Is it worth upgrading my PC just for Photoshop, or is this program just a bloated piece of shit that will never be fast?

Sorry but Adobe Photoshop absolutely obliterates GIMP in everything. Anyone that says otherwise has never used Photoshop.

GIMP supposedly has GPU acceleration now, but I'll be goddamned if it work(ed) for me.
I put photoshop on my ssd when i rebuilt my pc, it is now ready in a less than 5 seconds opposed to at least 30 seconds it took on my hdd.

It depends on what "professional work" you are doing. I can do some decent posters and banners using GIMP and no one ever will tell with what it was made. Problem is most clients want PS formats because it's "standard"
It's a just a tool after all. The artists skill is what matters more.

You don't need to upgrade, literally use any version of Photoshop except for CC and it will be fast even on toasters.
