Which is superior and why?

Does "SD" also include microSD?
>>
>>55256625
Yes
>>
Flash drives are better. There's no discussion.

Almost everything has a built-in USB port. Very few things have a SD card hole.

Obviously mSD. Large amounts of storage in something the size of your thumbnail.
>>
Why not use both?
>>
Microsd, it's super compact, is protected inside your phone, and is getting cheaper. You can buy a 128GB microsd card for less than $30 now.
>>
Punch cards are the best, they still work after 50 years...
>>
>>55256604
It depends, SD cards are faster while flash drives are usually cheaper and more versatile but slower, since any computer after 1995 has a USB port but you rarely see a computer with an SD port.

>SD cards are faster
There are plenty of USB 3 flash drives that will smoke any sdcard.
>>
>>55256825
holy shit will OP ever recover
>>

Yeah I was talking about 2.0. The main problem with a USB 3 drive is that for it to be that fast it needs to be in a USB 3 plug and that's still kind of rare in public places and in situations where you need to use portable storage because the technology is still relatively new and not widely adopted especially in public places where you still find windows XP computers.

But let's say USB 3 ports were as common as USB 2, then the only advantage of SD cards would be their ability to integrate well with the machine they're plugged in, which is a pretty nice feature IMO. No big USB key popping out the side of your machine is always a plus.
>>
Flash because they don't break after 10 uses
>>
>>55256927
i can't say i've ever had an SD card die on me
>>
USB flash drive.

Mostly because pretty much everything has a usb port, but most computers anymore don't have a SD slot it seems.

>>55256713
so what? flash drives hare large amounts of storage in something the size of my dick.
>>
Honestly, each of them have their own unique purposes. I always thought of Flash Drives as more of a easy way to move or back up data via PC's or devices that support USB more then a permanent storage medium, and MicroSD/SD for smaller tech devices that need extra storage (kind of like a micro SSD).

As a technician, I would have to go with Flash Drive on a day-by-day basis for ease of use.

How is microSD even possible?
Literal sorcery.

Same, plenty of USB drives have died on me though.

Why can't USB keys have the same low cost/GB ratio Micro SD has?
>>

Do you even thinkpad bro?

What's the point of portable storage if it's only compatible with your computer?
>>
>>55257635
>what are cameras
>what are live OSe

>>what are live OSe
>>what are OS installers
like you use that more than once a year unless you're a distro hopping cuck

>what is a replacement for DVDs
torrented mp4 files?
>>
>>55257710
Cameras are the main use of SD cards, they actually need high capacity, efficient ultra compact storage.

An emergency OS installer comes in handy sometimes. Especially if your bootloader gets fucked up for whatever reason.

Some people use DVDs to back shit up, not necessarily pirated files. And besides, you can't just write an mp4 on a DVD and play it on a DVD player.
>>
SD stands for SLOW DRIVE
>>
>>55257834
aren't SD's optimised for write speed as their main use is in cameras? they aren't slow, from my experience anyway.
>>
>>55257834

So apparently there are some comparable sd cards out there, but then you need a usb 3.0 reader.

I got that one in 32gb, god-tier mSD tbqh.
>>
Why is this even a question? USB 1000x. Even if your laptop has an SD card slot, it'll have twice as many USB slots. Every computer has usb. Not that many have SD

>>55257680
Except for camera you described usb
>>
>>55256713
I just hope you don't lose it in your pocket.

SD cards should have never gotten smaller.
>>
>>55256794
mSD is slower than a usb 3.0 flash drive
>>
>>55256967
PCs don't have SD slots.
>>
Flash drive, no contest. MicroSD is super convenient for expandable storage however.
>>
>>55256604
If it doesn't fit in a phone it's pointless.

This kills the iFag.

USB drives
Pretty much everything has a usb plug, and most of the time read speed isn't really important

Sd cards have their place though, in phones and cameras for instance

>all that storage in suck a small device
Does this not terrify anyone else
>>
>>55256712

because the transfer speed blows and most computers do not typically take mSDs

That has to cost an absolute fuckton.
