Vimscript is a hack, a quick and dirty extension of vi's ex commands but the truth is it ain't bad.
If you just get over the weird naming rules for scoping variables and some rough points (that are a given given the circumstances of vimscript's birth) it is very comfy. I find it much more enjoyable and expressive than JavaScript and Vim's help system make it a breeze to quickly find what you need.
