My nigga.
Why'd you have to go with the ugliest 960 with the shitty reference cooler though ?
>>
>>55250982
because it's a holdover card until I get a 1070, unless the RX 480 looks amazing. It was actually on sale compared to the 2GB version when I bought it, literally only reason I bought it was the sale.
The 5820k doesnt have an iGPU so I needed something to hold me over until the new cards came out. The 960 has the most advanced features(hardware VP9 and HEVC decoding, hardware HEVC encoding, HDCP 2.2 and HDMI 2.0, etc) at the cheapest price.
>>
>>55251020
Oh, I see. I'm looking forward to seeing it with a nicer GPU, then.

I'd suggest painting the yellow bits on your motherboard's heatsinks white, though.

i've debated it, but with the lights on it's hardly noticeable. and i'm unsure how a 2nd layer of paint would effect temps on the VRMs, I could sand the yellow layer off then paint on a white layer, but that seems like a lot of work for something that is purely aesthetics.

If it does happen it will be when I get the new GPU.

I would have waited for a non-reference GTX 1080, but besides that you did good.

The only non-reference 1080s that would fit in this case were the ACX 3.0 and G1 Gaming as far as I could tell. Those two don't seem worth the wait.

anything that isn't that shitty reference cooler is worth the wait, especially in a tiny ass case like that. But hey too late now.

How is dumping the hot air inside this tiny ass case better?

It's huge. I decided to go with a huge case for future water cooling plans.
I'm going to put a 360mm radiator in the top once my bank account allows me to spend a lot of money on a CPU cooler.
Also on the list of things to do is a new PSU and all white power cables, as well as all black SATA cables.

>>55251190
I think you should do it, maybe remove some of all those lights too. Probably not all of them, but goddamn that's a lot of lights.
Either way, painting those heatsinks white will look amazing, especially if you get a graphics card that matches the black colour scheme with white accents, as opposed to a big white box.

It depends on your motherboard entirely, from my experiences some motherboards are just fine, others however cause major issues and there is little to no support out there trying to troubleshoot what the issues might be.
>>
>>55251746
>And X58, X79 or X99 platforms arent 'consumer parts'? Wow, marketing really works.
They're prosumer parts. The normal person will never need x58/x79/x99. The professional or semi-professional will. which is why they are prosumer parts, for the higher end market.

I'm sorry you don't like marketing, but you can't deny there is a VERY clear cut divide between the normal consumer boards and features, and prosumer, and then professional (xeons).

So what would you call it, you moronic frogposting faggot? It's not a normal consumer level part, it costs easily double what 3/4 of consumers need. Why should it continue to fall under the normal "consumer" classification because YOU'RE autistic and can't handle the fact it's on its own level?

It isn't the late 90s or early 2000s anymore where even a basic computer would cost $1000+, this is 2016 where I can go buy a decent computer for $400-500 that will be more than sufficient for the vast majority of people.

When you have $100 motherboards and $100 CPUs for the masses, you MUST admit it's retarded calling a $350+ CPU and a $250+ motherboard on the same level as the normal shit.

Well, you can keep justifying your hugely overpriced purchases with whatever nonsense you come up with. I've just dealed with the fact i have bought into overpriced chipset and cpu. And the markets will keep working in two distinct spaces: consumer and industrial.

yeah... did you even look at how much storage space I have? I don't think I can afford $6,000+ to replace my HDDs with SSDs. Not to mention needing more SATA connections and places to put the SSDs.
>>
>>55252024
The 750D doesn't have enough 2.5" slots for that, and I'm not replacing my HDDs just to have smaller HDDs.

That said though, I probably will fill up all of the 2.5" slots as well eventually, because I keep just adding more storage instead of freeing up space.

No idea, it doesn't read temps.

I have an IR thermometer but i'd have to take off my side panel and shit for that. As long as you aren't stressing it all the time the temps should be fine. Unless you're doing huge database work or something like that, it's highly unlikely you'll be able to stress it.

Well. I planned on getting the i7-6950X for the M1. But my temperatures just weren't where I wanted them to be, so I wouldn't be able to overclock it like I want. (I want to get the 6950X to 4.0GHz. Or at the very least 3.5GHz rock-solid stable, which wouldn't be hard.). I'll likely try and do like 8x4GB sticks just to fill up the board. Or perhaps get like 4x8GB, and maybe somewhere down the line the same kit just to fill it for aesthetics. I've got the GTX 980, might buy a second. And two 360mm radiators.

>>
>>55252425
Change those rad intakes to exhaust, and intake from the rest. I get the positive pressure bit, but even with a good dust filter you're gonna suck dust into that rad and shit up your temps over time, not to mention bringing hot air into your case.

The airflow between two fans going through your radiator against two unimpeded intakes will still equal out to positive pressure. I can link you to a good slap-on filter from Amazon for that back fan.
>>
>>55252513
So, in changing them to exhaust, where do you suggest I mount them? With this case in particular it will be louder if I mount them on the top, but if it is overall the best place for it, I will do it.

Also, a link to that filter would be great, thanks!

Takes about a good solid hour or two if you want to make it really nice. I worked on mine for just over an hour. My first computer I spent 2-3 and it wasn't all that, but I had CF 7950 in a TJ08B case. Shit was small.

can't, I'm waiting on the rest of my parts in the mail, its an intel g3258, 16gb kingston ddr3 clocked at 1866, and r7 250.
I already have a 212 evo with me.

I figured I'd just put all of this together first, so as to not have to do it all in one go.
This is babby's first PC build.

would love a citation on that as dual GTX 980Ti's see a less than 1% performance drop when moving from x16 x16 to x8 x8.

That's a load of shit, x16 and x8 are completely different.

There's a link to someone running tests in the 1080 owners thread on overclock.net , I think it was like an 8% performance drop. I'll try to find it.

These results seem out of line with almost every other testing i've seen, i'd chalk it up to his own personal setup having quirks more than any significantly useful data.

Especially his result for elite dangerous, everything else was a few %, then that was like 15% out of nowhere with no explanation.
>>
>>55252024
Why?
If I wait a year or two large ssds will cost half what they do now. Maybe even less.

Ain't going to spend fuck loads of money now on something that will be mainstream cheap soon.
>>
>>55258110
I think the problem with his setup is that he is using PCIe 2.0 x16 to simulate PCIe 3.0 x8. Either way what I really want to see is a comparison of gtx 1080 in SLI with the HB bridge on a board with dual x16 3.0 and another with dual x8 3.0. I have an I7 6700k and might want to go dual 1080 at some point but the lack of lanes makes me unsure.

I actually did--the rvz02, in regards to overall quality, runs laps around the rvz01. Also, oversized cards simply don't fit the rvz01--how the graphics card is suspended in the rvz01, you need a bracket to support the card. You can get away without it in the rvz02, but in the rvz01, it literally just hangs there with no real way to support it.

Right now I have it as a dedicated PhysX card yeah, eventually I'm thinking I may move to a Linux host and have the 760 as a dedicated host GPU and run a Windows KVM for gaming/etc. with the 1070 as a passthrough
>>
>>55264398
How well does the PCIe Pass-through work? I also want to finally ditch windows and use Linux, but
>muh gaymes
>>
>>55264419
Basically some modern motherboards and CPUs support PCI-E passthrough so the VM sees the full GPU just like it was connected to the VM natively, when you fire up the VM it takes over the GPU (and any monitors attached).
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=37D2bRsthfI
>>
>>55264445
Er sorry, you asked how -well-. Supposedly pretty damn close to native performance.
>>
>>55264452
you get about 98% of native speed, IIRC.

The drawback is that its a huge bitch to set up.
>>
>>55264452
But I need two GPUs so it works properly? At least that's how the first glance into the debian wiki makes it look. Well at least I have VT-d
>>
>>55264478
Yes. You have one GPU that the Linux system uses, and another GPU that it gives to the VM exclusively.

I think the Arch wiki has a big long guide to setting this up, you should look in that
>>
>>55264498
I'll check it out. now I just need to find a cheap and low power gpu
maybe 750ti?
>>
>>55264478
well technically speaking you could probably set up the host with no GPU at all and SSH into it or something, but that would be a pain in the ass and require some sort of client machine. For practicality though yes two GPUs is best.

You don't need them both to be PCI-E though of course, I do since I use a 5820K which doesn't have an intel integrated GPU, but if you do you can just use that.
>>
>>55264526
I have a Xeon which also has no integrated graphics, sadly.
