I like the crystal. The dial is a bit weird though.

Cheeky. What kind of strap is that?

How bad is brass as a case material /wt/? Does it develop a nice patina or does it just tarnish and get ugly? Does it not patina if you polish it?

Is the SKX007 still a good buy for a diver? I know there's the newer turtle but the turtle-shaped case looks like dogshit to me.

Any other brands i should watch out for?

You could cut up some old pants and make a strap like that anon in the last thread.
>>
>>55244842

The movement in the SKX007 is deprecated. You should do a search for microbrand watches that use the Seiko NH35 movement of which there are many.

Yes. Dive watches are essentially memes, seiko being the most prolific dive watch producer you get extra meme points, its is also the cheapest iso certified diver, more more bonus points here

The new orient Ray is also pretty good for the price. Not as memey though
>>

Interested in this. Any senpai pls.
>>
>>55244269
Alot of the higher end watches make it all out of one piece of crystal.
Some stupid brands even mill a whole case out of the shit.

Not saying that is the reason it magnifies, glued on ones magnify just as well.

Hahaha nice failure to launch.
Are you a newfag or a troll?

It's not good. For one, it's kinda soft. Ammonia in human sweat can also stress it and cause it to crack.

May also turn your skin green from copper content.

Bronze is pretty much strictly better, and that's still just not good. You see bronze on some new high end pieces for the novelty value of being able to patina very quickly, but it's just not as good as steel for a case material long term.
>>
>>55245112

It depends on how you personally define "lots more expensive" I suppose. You can find some in the $300-$400 range.

>That and you can generally just get a sense of someone wanting to buy versus not.
I had to go to a car dealer once and fake to be interested in buying a car for a survey company.
Twice. For cars of different brands. I think I managed to fake at a decent level considering I had never bought a car in my life. The key is believing what you're saying yourself and never for a moment let the insecurity kick in, just go with the flow as though you were really there for that reason, if you don't know something just ask the seller, don't let them see you don't know what he's talking about and you're acting as if you were nonetheless.
Hide your fakeness behind elements of honesty, basically.

It feels pretty bad, though. Thank god I dit it only twice.

Most people aren't fully commited to the George Costanza approach (believing your own lies so thoroughly that you're not lying.)

Most people ask for a card and refer to speaking more to the salesperson at a later date because that's what it literally tells you to do online if you google for how to get a salesman off your back.
>>
>>55249252
I was talking about deceiving them, not getting them off your back.

It's about behaving like what you're saying is not a lie.

>I was talking about deceiving them, not getting them off your back.
I know you were. I was talking about asking for a card. It's a universal symbol for for "no thanks, I don't want it, but I'm too polite/shy/afraid to just tell you no."

>It's about behaving like what you're saying is not a lie.

Asking for a card was the foot in the door for having this dealer
1.) spend a good 10 minutes looking for the keys
2.) let me sit in their most expensive GTR
3.) have my friend take a picture of me in it
4.) make an embarrassment out of the dealership when the guy told me I could start it up and the battery was dead

>>
>>55244894
We have discussed this earlier.

This is a clock that is used in a radio room on board a ship, indicating radio silence periods for listening to the two emergency frequencies. Not respecting radio silence is grounds for shooting.

Often there are different colours used to represent the two emergency frequencies. That was also shown last time.

Now the 500 kHz frequency is disbanded and reused for radio amateurs and shipping instead uses satellite communication also for emergencies. Being a telegraphist was a fairly good job about 20 - 30 years ago. It is stull used for some rather specialised work.

My Explorer II. ca 2003, 3185 movement.

Busted the crystal once; ended up needing a full service. Sucks mostly, because before I busted the crystal it was running at -1 sec per day. Now it runs at about -3. Maybe I'll take it to get the escapement adjusted if I start feeling really autistic.

The Expedition is a fucking excellent field watch. Great if you're an outdoorsy type. Also I don't care what people say about SKX lume, because Indiglo is an invaluable feature at 11pm when there's clouds covering the moon.

I just wish it was a little smaller.

Bullbars are pretty cool but mostly just for looks
The dw5600 ones should fit just fine on the 5610

All timex watches have a fundemental flaw
it's impossible to change a battery on them with conventional watch tools. You NEED back plate press, especially for models with 100m WR.
So you're gonna get jewed 15 bucks by a battery monkey every few years.
Go for Casio or Seiko.

The actual clock, or the alarm? It doesn't tick, that black and white striped wheel on the right spins slowly as the watch runs and it makes a very very quiet slow grinding noise and then you can hear a little fluttering noise when the display flips over to the next minute.

The alarm started out really faint and weak when I first tested it, but after a few seconds it came back to life and picked up to a nice awful blaring noise. Now that I cleaned it up that somehow seems to have helped the volume and now it's nice and loud.

Meca not mega. It's a hybrid movement. The time display is traditional quartz and the seconds hand ticks once per second. The chronograph portion is powered by a separate motor and gears and such which gives it a smooth sweep and instant reset like fully mechanical chronograph.

Divers tend to be big. The case shape helps it not seem as big as the number would indicate, but yeah, it's still too big.

If you're interested in solar, they have the SBDN019. Similar to the SXK013 being a smaller version of the 007. The SBDN019 is a 38.75mm version of the SBDJ013, which is 44mm. Same with SBDN017 being the small version of SBDN011, and SBDN015 being the small version of SBDN009.

I believe it will have certain models that are only sold at that location. Also, a normal seiko boutique will carry all lines of Seiko. The premium boutique only carries Grand Seiko, Credor and Galante.

Hah, don't know the Galante line? It's their avant garde line, paired with decent movements like spring drive. Most of their stuff is way too large to wear.

Most of their recent advertising/image stuff has been pretty fucking goofy. webm related.

I think it's interesting how Seiko's lines have evolved over time. Before you used to see more avant garde and flashy/complex stuff in the Credor line, including my chrono, and the 247 numbers on the original eichi. I think they're pushing credor more towards classy, clean designs, like the new eichi and keeping more of their crazy shit more in lines like Galante.

That's part of why some of the older Credors can be interesting, because there may be a day where people don't think of Credor as anything but very classy, highly legible, simplicity first with precious metals sort of collection.

Silly artsy bullshit advertising creating some sort of 'deep' image for the line. Probably made by some intern who thinks they're really smart.

You see this shit out of the west too, but for some reason it seems even worse and weirder when it comes from the east. Probably because they have a different take on artsy bullshit that I'm not used to.
