/g/, how come pacman's upgrade process is very quick, but apt's is very slow? It's the one thing holding me back from Debian.

PPPPPPPPFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT! Oh shit! I haven't laughed that hard in ages.
>>
Its because pacman is an efficiently made program with superior logistics and organization compared to apt.

It's like trying to empty a water bin with a hose and pump vs using a straw and manually sucking.

>pacman

Fedora master race as usual

Hyperventilating,thanks.
>>

Fedora has some autismal ideas of their own, anon. Some of the exclusions from their repos are just retarded. DNF is almost on par with pacman though, if you need peer approval.
>>
>>55225771

That's now how it works and you're literally spreading misinformation while some sort of banalizing things.

>pacman fast
>apt-get slow
>the one thing holding me back.
No. No. No. All those precambrian packages aren't because apt-get is slow....they're just precambrian packages.
>>
>>55225744
Apt actually does proper dependency resolution where pacman doesn't care if it breaks absolutely everything.
>>
Okay listen up niggers.

apt: quick but occasionally dense
pacman: quicker but more often denser
dnf: dogshit slow but trustworthy; it's Lenny
zypper: basically dnf again
emerge: wizardry, but not quick
xbps: no reason to exist

apt is, in general, my favourite. Sure it occasionally shits the bed and tries to nuke your system, but if you keep an eye on it you're golden. Its output does annoy me though because it turns into a mess. pacman would be better if I didn't have to remember a plethora of puerile flags for everything. It's not cool or leet, it's annoying. dnf would be better if it didn't have glacial run times for every command.

I hate myself.

You can always write a wrapper for pacman if you don't like it's options.
>>
>>55226739
Yes, and I could always write a filter for apt if I don't like its output, but tbqh I'd rather just put up with it and moan about it on this Mongolian topiary forum.

Why does everyone seem to have such terrible taste in package managers?

Nix master race.
>>
>>55226877
What problem does Nix solve?
>>
brew for osx/bsd ports master race
>>
>>55226877
Is Nix used by any distribution?

No, because it's shit.
>>
>>55226591

and yum ? that shit is slow as hell
>>
>>55226877
You're all doing it wrong, just use Paludis.
>>
Pacman is the best and the main reason I use arch based distros over anything else

>>55226957
Yes, NixOS; also, popularity is no measure of how good or bad something is.

>>55227709
What's good about Paludis?
>>

Does Nix support package options? (in Portage parlance, USE flags)
>>
>>55228014
Yes, Nix packages can support them in the form of buildInputs

An example: https://github.com/NixOS/nixpkgs/blob/master/pkgs/applications/editors/emacs-25/default.nix
