Yes, if you don't have a Skylake but want it.
It is literally updated stepping with fixed bugs.
Yes, yes, I know what you may say, Prime95 bug was fixed in microcode update, but it is nice to not have bugs out of the box.

It's just another Devil's Canyon, because Cannonlake isn't ready. It'll also give Intel the excuse to make Cannonlake incompatible with Z170 boards, just like they made Broadwell incompatible with Z87 ones. You've already had your one CPU "upgrade" goyim, buy a new motherboard!

Good thing Linux and BSD don't care about that.

I guess there's still no reason why I should upgrade my 3570K
>>
>>55221058
That doesn't mean it's Windows only, just that Windows 10 is the only Windows system that supports it (officially, anyway), fyi.
>>
>>55221058
"Supported" in this sense being that support will be offered through official channels for Windows 10 and nothing else. It'll still run other operating systems, just don't come crying to us if it doesn't work properly is the message.
>>
>>55221194

This. They are just trying to force people up to windows 10. 7 and 8/8.1 will likely work no problem. You might not get some of the features where the os can control the cpu a bit to save power.
>>
>>55221108
Crappy for people who need to run Win7/8 for software compatibility reasons. For example, I have to run a special office/database management software for my work. Since the software only runs on Windows XP/7/8, that means Skylake is my upgrade "ceiling". I'm sure Windows 10 support will eventually come to the software, but I wouldn't expect it anytime soon. This kind of stuff moves at a glacial pace.

This is actually relevant to my interests, since I plan to upgrade next week when the 480 comes out.

I'm not sure whether to go home with jewtel, or get something less substantial for a lot less and upgrade when Canonlake or Zen comes out.

Considering I'm upgrading from a Q9650 and HD7850, I've got future proofing in mind. So what do famalams?

official microsoft support for windows was trash anyway, literally who cares

the only thing that would matter is if microsoft slipped intel some money and got them to make the chips physically incompatible with windows 7 and below, which I really can't see happening

Skylake has fewer bugs than haswell. Not sure why you would be concerned about a fixed issue.

Every cpu has bugs. You actually had to go in and set up p95 with very specific parameters to trigger the erratia. Joe blow is not running p95 24/7 with obscure parameters. Not a good reason to hate on sl.
>>
>>55219213
no its another 14 nm chip. intel only gets good bumps in performance when they can work in lower nm ranges

so basically if you never see a 10 nm chip from intel amd wins hands down because the only reason they were not in the lead was they were selling chips that were double the nm range intel sold and were 30% weaker but cheaper

intel doesnt even get a solid scaled boost over amd because amd actually has better architecture. zen+ might bury intel
>>
>>55221607
Yeah no. The 6700K barely beats out the 2600K with the stock clock difference (3.4->3.8 vs. 4.0->4.2, including turbo boost). Considering they both seem to overclock to similar average numbers, around 4.5GHz, that gap closes even further when both are overclocked.

Is it worth upgrading from an i5 3570K yet?
>>
>>55221689
Wow. So much wishful thinking about a future product you know absolutely nothing about. Sure, I'd love to watch Intel burn to the ground, but I'm not telling everyone that the dominant CPU manufacturer with over 90+% of the market is incompetent and about to fall behind.

>The 6700K barely beats out the 2600K

You're delusional. It beats it comfortably in any and every task, even gaymen, stock versus stock or overclock versus overclock.

Sandy Vag faggots are the absolute worst. A combination of poorfags who can't afford to upgrade and retards who fell for the dank "never obsolete" meme and actually chose to buy a used one over a newer CPU.
>>
>>55221278
Can you overclock with the 6500?
>>

>2tb wd black for 175$

Nigger what are you doing? I bought those for $120 off of amazon when doing my raid set up. Microcenter also likes to put them on sale for $110-115 around Christmas time.
>>
>>55221278
Leaf prices? That 6600k is below msrp now here in the states. No reason to get anything older than skylake, really.
>>
>>55221758
Your projections aside, clockspeed (along with number of cores) isn't that bad of a performance metric when Intel's IPC has barely increased.

>>55221820
Thanks, those reviews actually proved my point.

According to that eurogamer review, the average framerate increase is only 13% when both chips are overclocked. I can wait a couple more gens for Intel to step their game up.
>>
>>55221241
Can you run it in wine?

It's not, yet it is.

Intel dropped Tick-Tock, Eeach microarch has 3 releases now, the first two in the current node and the last as the die shrink on a new node.

>>
>>55221267
Mah niggah
>>
>>55222064
A 6700K, of course. I wouldn't buy a 2600K right now for many reasons (reliability of 2nd hand components and how hard it is to get 67/77 boards, for the most part). I'd only go for an older system if I was getting it at a massive discount.

I was just saying it doesn't make a massive amount of sense for 2600K owners to ugprade right now unless they really need specific features or desperately need those last few frames in certain games, or their computing requirements have changed significantly (i.e. jumping to a 6/8/12core cpu).
