You're probably still using more power than you should if you went with a lower capacity PSU, Peak efficiency is at about 50% load (sometimes 80%). 10% load for example is some 78% efficient on gold, which would be when you're using say a 6700k to shitpost on a 1500W (or 1000W) PSU.
CPUs and GPUs have only gotten more efficient, my computer today uses far less power while web browsing than my computer did in 2007.
I have a 600w 80+ titanium rated PSU that rarely sees over 300w power draw.
