I was adding some new RAM to my laptop, but to do so, I had to remove the motherboard (HP Sleekbook 15).

During disassembly, I got to the flex cable for the laptop's screen. Upon disconnecting the cable, I managed to rip the connector port clean from the motherboard.

I tried getting two replacement motherboards, but each one was defective, and had to be returned. I eventually just said "fuck this", so the laptop now sits in pieces in a box in my closet. Two weeks later, I bought myself a Thinkpad T420.

I had a laptop where the graphics card kept overheating and crashing whenever I played a game.

I thought it'd be pretty clever to put the laptop in the freezer for a bit so I'd get more use out of it before it crashed.

That laptop doesn't start anymore, presumably because freezers cause ice crystals (i.e. water) to condense onto things (i.e. the circuit boards).

I thought I could undo registry edits with ctrl+z.

I could not.

I was alone and drinking as usual and grabbed the vodka wrong and it spilled all over the mobo, the case was off at the time.

There was the time I got mad at mario kart and threw the wii at my monitor, which broke the monitor.

I forgot my passport drive in a backpack when I was travelling Europe by train, I was lucky to get it back because my name and email address were written in it and it was at the station I left it at.

I used to stick magnets all over my case until a friend told me it was retarded.

The first time I got wifi I threw away all of my ethernet cables, thinking I'd never need them ever again.

I bought a deathadder and threw my intellimouse in the bin. It worked fine I just liked how the deathadder looked.

I once never cleaned my machine and the mobo died because of what the company called "catastrophic dust" when I RMA'd it.

In 2005 I had a dinky IDE RAID card and a pair of 120GB drives in RAID 1. I used Speedfan (I believe it was) to monitor my temperatures. The documentation said you shouldn't try to monitor HDD temperatures for drives in a RAID array. I tried it anyway, thinking the worst that could happen was that it wouldn't work.

I corrupted the drives' partition tables and spent two full days with DOS disks and Linux live CDs carefully poking the drives and eventually getting (most of) my stuff back, and learning that RAID is not a backup.

Nuked a cpu by trying to fit a heatsink to the rear of the vrms to handle my overclock. Silly me did this while it was running and said heatsink made contact with the chassis and shorted the chip. The mobo was also possibly killed but it was a piece of shit anyway.

To add insult to injury when pulling the cooler off the (believed dead) cpu I bent a pin. Sure I bent it back but by that point I simply wrote the lot off and replaced the parts.

Luckily it wasn't too expensive in the grand scheme of things (its not like I killed a brand spanking new i7 or anything) but still, taught me not to be stupid again.

The keys are pretty much unfucked apart from the numpad where the keys sometimes still stick after pressing them but I have to bring a mouse whereever I go and disable the trackpad every time I power it on before it goes into "ghost right click mode" where every left click (even on an external mouse) registers as a right click and actual right clicks don't register at all.
