I'm currently waiting for the parts for my cyberdeck to arrive. I don't really have a good solution for the interface though as the current VR googles all require 1 or more power outlets and I'd like it to be portable but not have a screen.

Any suggestions?

There wasn't even a massive secret government surveillance program in the 90's. In what way was it more cyberpunk than now?

Is it just because websites used black backgrounds and green text more often then?

Have you considered an AR headset of some sort? I've seen ones with myvu video glasses and some weird gutted VR headset from the mid 2000s. You wouldn't be totally submersed, but it'd work.

I have and they're all in the $700-3000 range. The myvu glasses seem like the best bet. It would be nice to have VR with head tracking and stuff but I'd take an SD display in each eye in a pinch. That's probably usable...ish.

Define real time.
As someone who studied cartography, and laser-based measurement systems...
It is kinda possible.
There are cars equipped with laser scanner, which basically scan everything around them in real time.

Problem is that what you get is a very high resolution point cloud of terrain. That takes shitload of space.

Even moving it from point based geometry to polygon based takes quite some time( i7 3770k 10x10m area using delone Triangulation took one hour).

You could write an algorithm to simplify the point cloud and work on the simplified chunks but... That too requires Damn much computing power, and also bandwidth - you need to transmit data from car to some designated workstation.

The only thing that could be considered real time is a very low resolution point cloud, then simplified by algorithm, then apply delone Triangulation to the leftover points.

Upside? Fast
Downside? Accuracy will be so fucking low that it won't be a map anymore - more akin to visualization.

You also could use a photos - but they require extra step - converting photo-pairs to point cloud. And you need to know some dimensions on each photographed object.
To scale the cloud properly.

Better Idea would be to generate a lidar map of a city, then apply some kind of differential algorithm.
Get your position via phase GPS and glonass, create virtual point cloud from your position, align them by some common, static objects - Street signs?
Then compare them both, and work only on new data.

All there are around here are "stores" full of useless people selling limited overused stock at high prices.

What are some cyberpunk things that you can do to your car?
>>
>>55191284
Definitely going to try and put together a nice rig when I get some money, but I may have to just fly it around my apartment as I don't think they let you fly them in NYC.
>>
>>55190344
I worked with terrestrial laser scanners at my university. My uni got one and I volunteered to do a project with it. I know that both aerial and car- mounted one exist.

I've scanned a fuel silos and made a 3d model of them, along with pipe entrance points.

Atm i am writing an algorithm that simplifies point cloud to series of 2d splines for my masters.

Now about drone... That will be hard, they are quite heavy.
You could use a linear scanner(scans perpendicular line to the movement vector), but you need:
Gnss controlled drone
For precision you need a few designated points on ground, in a single coordinate system(for small scale I recommend just simple planar coords).

Simplest way is to just set 2 points as a base and measure distance to each other point from them, or do a chain of such bases.

There are way better techniques but that one should be easy to solve with least squares best fit.

I almost didn't get to go aviation (you select what you prefer in NROTC). My eyesight was 20/200, but you need 20/20 to pass your flight physical to even qualify to get selected for Aviation. Had to get LASIK, but didn't get it soon enough and almost crushed my dreams. Got really lucky/CO pulled some strings, but thats a story for another day.

And also, you can be an NFO (think Goose from Top Gun) and be colorblind. You just need a waiver.
>>
>>55191419
My friends dream was to be a jet pilot...
Sadly he is literally 5cm too high to get in.
>>
>>55191383
You could also set up a phase GPS system,
But you need a land station(at least one) and a phase GPS system for drone.

Sadly phase GPS costs ALOT.
yet you can increase precision from few m to 1cm(in good conditions, with decent DOP)

Awesome, I love cyberpunk threads.

Only trouble is, it's best to try to keep all cyberpunk off of clearnet.

>lol tor NSA botnet
yeah, whatever normie faggots

The only trouble I see, is that anything cyberpunk has to have purpose. Not just exist for the purpose of existing. It needs a goal. And people can't do it well on their own. Sorry.

How is Star Citizen now? I actually bought pedals/joystick/throttle to play it, and got myself the Avenger. Only problem is, I lag too badly when I try and play anything besides the drone simulator thing.

Has it made much progress since December?

Lag has improved a lot, there was a big patch where they optimized the ship assets so it doesn't hitch every time one spawned in. It's still pretty much what you'd expect from an alpha, stability-wise, but they've put a lot of new stuff in the PU like missions and a persistent reputation status. There's still a long way to go, and I'd be surprised if they hit the launch date they've been promising, but it's coming along steadily. I've been meaning to pick up a nice stick at some point myself.

Also, concerning cyber security:

I've been using fde with dm/luks and the initramfs on a flash drive that I carried with me all the time up until now.
Recently I figured that it's not a big difference to disk encryption with initramfs on same disk or even just encrypting your home folder, because as soon as somebody gets physical access to your devices and you continue to use them afterwards, you are fucked.

Should I make my system much more comfy (booting directly into gui) by only encrypting the home folder with all my stuff?

(asked this recently in /fucko/ but they didn't seem to know)
>>
>>55188216

>>
>>55192351
>(asked this recently in /fucko/ but they didn't seem to know)
Hey dipshit. It's easier for someone to compromise (in a hard to detect manner) part of your system if you load the entire system than it is to compromise a small loader. If you have a 50k decryption program that loads first, you can audit it. If your 3 gigabyte system loads, you won't be able to audit it.
If all your shit is encrypted, you only need to worry about the 50k loader.

Who else /legitparanoid/ here?
When I'm in public I wear a hood and sunglasses regardless of temperature or time of day. The thought of security cameras staring at me really gets on my nerves.
The thought of internet surveillance really frightens me.
Does anyone know some key factors I can do to be completely secure? Like setting up a proxy server, actually useful software instead of choosing really shitty software over something like firefox for no reason other than >botnet, changing the rom of my phone or going full dumb phone, hardware to avoid like and alternatives to it, and other useful info.

>worry about
>compromise

You are wrong. As soon as someone gets my machine into their hands, I can not continue to use it because it may be compromised.
Sure, there is a difference between a flash drive and my laptop, or a loader vs my whole system, but the point is, it's possible with both.
You'd just be adding another layer of obscurity.

Also, you sound really sad btw.
>>
>>55194480
Oh anon you cant get away from surveillance.
It's just about making mass surveillance harder. Even if you had top of the line encryption if someone really wanted your shit and deemed it worth the resources well your shit might as well be written on a public facebook wall.
Phones are being tracked all the time. No matter what phone you use the cell towers know where it is and its being logs. Your conversations may or may not rerecorded depending on the local law but its safe to assume that they are.
The software really don't matter as much as you think as your ISP will spill its spaghetti at first sight of a warrant.
Proxies are more vulnerable than VPNs since they are more susceptible to man in the middle attacks but the exit point of your VPN is still unencrypted so that point can be listened to.
Also having your data encrypted makes you a target for surveillance since acting like you have something to hide makes people think you are hiding something.
Same as wearing a hoodie and sunglasses at night in the scorching summer. You might think you are a shadow but everyone and their dog thinks you are ether dealing drugs or mentally retarded. And they have their good eye on you. The best thing to do is to appear as normie as possible and hope not to attract too much attention.
>>
>>55195585
>Oh anon you cant get away from surveillance.
I'm aware, I just like to take precautions and make it harder for people to surveil me. I do it because I get the same feeling from a stranger pulling a camera on me.
>Same as wearing a hoodie and sunglasses at night in the scorching summer. You might think you are a shadow but everyone and their dog thinks you are ether dealing drugs or mentally retarded.
It's not really a choice though, it's more of a compulsion I get from anxiety. It makes me feel better and it's not harmful so I'm not going to bother stopping.

I do get what you're saying, don't get me wrong. I guess the best thing I can do is be very conscious of what I share online and what things I sign up for.

>>55195924
I don't like cameras ether. And thats just rude recording someone without permission. Check local laws it might be illegal too.

What I'm trying to tell you is that the software you use encryption, proxies,VPNs or suddenly not having a phone, wont make it that much harder to be surveyed. What it will do is tell people that you might be worth the time and effort of being put under surveillance.
