Is it worth upgrading my aging 560Ti to a 960 now? I'm considering this one: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 960 GV-N960OC-4GD 4GB which is around 200$ here.
>>
>>55168025
hell to the no
>>
The RX 480 is going to be around 980 levels of performance.
>>
>>55168025
>Is it worth
worth what?
how much do you make?
what do you need either of these for?
why do you ask us such retarded questions?
why do you burden us with another shitty thread like this?
>>
>>55168025
M8 we've got new GPUs from both teams just around the corner. Hold off until like mid-July and make your decision then.
>>
Personally I think at $200 its too expensive

I'd only recommend a 960 if all you do is play weeb games and 2d shit, and if you could get it for $150, which is what i recommended my roommate to do last year.

I'd say wait for the 480, but idk if you live in burgerland or not, and it also depends how much it'll cost in your country

And as others have said, new cards are literally around the corner, more info about amd stuff comes out in 9 days

Not to be a waitfag, but literally wait this time
>>
>>55168025
its a bad time to get a 3.5 gb card, this is coming from a dude with a 960 2gb
>>
>>55168077

960 4gb vram is totally fine
>>
>>55168082
It can't actually make use of the extra 2GB in basically any realistic situation, but you are right that it is full speed and bandwidth.
>>
>>55168104

Yea, i'm aware of that, i'm >>55168071
the 960 i recommended my roommate is a 2gb, because its too potato to make use of the full 4gb
>>
>>55168071
yuropoor here. the 1070 is currently listed at 560$. a few days wait can't hurt though, you're right.

>>55168049
I had very bad experiences with ATI cards in the past, I'll skip.

>>55168104
why?
>>
>>55168135
ATi is not AMD. They've progressed in leaps and bounds. I've been Nvidia since I started dicking around in computers, and I'm seriously considering the RX series. At least wait until benchmarks and reviews are out before dismissing it.
>>
>>55168135
cuck. buy whatever. you don't deserve genuine advice
>>
>>55168200
Excellent advice, thank you! I'll be sure to ask the gypsy woman next time.
>>
>>55168135

Don't listen to the other retard, the 960 can and effectively use the 4GB of VRAM in several games. Right now i'm playing GTA V with everything maxed out except AA and it runs about 40fps with 3.5GB Vram consumption.
That being said, I'll probably wait for the GTX 1060.

Don't fall for the RX480 meme, even if it turns out to be a good card, remember the >AMD drivers.

I also had an AMD card in the past, and i ain't gonna get meme'd again.
>>
>>55168288
> remember the >AMD drivers
I've never used AMD, but I've read about them. From what I understand, AMD driver releases are way far apart, but AMD packs a lot into them. The downside of this, obviously, is that if something breaks, you could be waiting months until it's fucking patched, as opposed to nVidia, who releases small patches, but very often.

Is this essentially the gist of it?
>>
I've owned nvidia and ATI cards in the past. Never once had an issue with ATI drivers and a few with Nvidia's. If that helps :^)
>>
>>55168025
Yes
>>
>>55168341
Look here's the truth of it:

With Nvidia you will get a driver update seemingly once a week and definitely on launch day of any major game. With AMD you will get a driver update every other month or so and for some major games. AMD driver updates consistently improve GPU performance across the board. Nvidia driver updates tend to gimp older model GPUs.

Anybody telling you to buy s 960 right now is a fanboy. Wait for RX480 benchmarks and then buy the card that has the performance you want
>>
>>55168157
twice i fell for that meme that they fixed their drivers (one with ati and another with amd), not falling for that shit, if it works for others great but i am not, thanks
>>
>>55168487
Nobody cares faggot. This thread is for giving advice to someone that isn't sure what to buy not to sway you to buy an AMD card.
>>
>>55168025

No fucking way.

If you are a budget plebeian buy the upcoming RX 480.

$199 for the equivalent of a shitty overheating 980.

There is a reason you are poor, my friend, and that reason is that you idiotically rush into terrible purchases.

Never ever buy anything ever again without asking someone whether it is worth it. You are too stupid to manage on your own.
>>
>>55168473
> Wait for RX480 benchmarks and then buy the card that has the performance you want
That's my plan!

>>55168487
To each their own.
>>
>>55168025

wait for GTX 1060 or the RX480(comes out this month) or RX 470, 960 isn't worth $200 and even then, it will see a massive price drop as the RX480 blows up its price range, also this anon >>55168473 tells the truth about drivers.
>>
>>55168487
You sound like you're mentally retarded, so yes, buy a 960. Enjoy!
>>
>>55168025
560 Ti bro here. Please don't get the 960, you deserve so much more. The reason why you waited this long is because you want a big leap, the 960 is anything but. Wait for 1060 Ti or some shit if you don't want AMD (which looks very inviting)
>>
>>55168520
>Never ever buy anything ever again without asking someone whether it is worth it.
That's what he's doing. No need to be such a gigantic prick about it.

I've seen benchmarks that put the fx8350 on par with the i7 6700 for dx12...

It's not a bad CPU, but there's no way it'll match the latest i7.

i know, it's a shame that any company would lie or bullshit their numbers to sway people's purchases, for Intel and AMD or whoever, apparently transparency is too much.
>>
>>55168025
No you piece of shit.
>>
>>55168288
This year nvidia released a bunch of fucked up drivers it's a old meme.
>>
>>55168025
Either wait for the RX 480 which will get GTX 980 performance, or wait for the 1060 whenever that comes out. If you end up going for a 960 anyway at least get a 4GB version.
>>
>>55168025
is the evga 650 gq gold power memer good enough for new gen cards? I might end up buying an AMD card since Nvidia drivers are so jooish
>>
>>55168473
i might go amd because of this

i have spent a long time with my 660 ti and i spent a long time with my 8800 gt

I feel I will get more juice from AMD drivers since I only play games with a long ass live like TF2 and Overmeme
>>
>>55168816
that game is gpu bound, though
>>
>>55168025
You might want to look at R9 380.
I have one from Asus and its great.
It performs very well, and is quiet.
Good temps too.
>>
>>55168288
>except AA
why do you do this to yourself
>>
If you want to game on Linux then stay the fuck away from AMD until Vulcan becomes mainstream. Their OpenGL performance is horrific.
>>
DAMN SON
Don't upgrade now.
Seriously. You will fucking murder yourself when the 480 comes out, even if it turns out to be shit you should still wait just in case it isn't.
>>
This is the worst month to buy a new midrange GPU in like 5 fucking years.

If you want high end then the 1080 is a pretty safe bet (if you can get one, kek nvidia), but this is the dieshrink release month. The dieshrink that everyone has been waiting for for over half a fucking decade
>>
anyone knows how much the 480 is going to cost in Europe?
>>
GTX 1060
>>
>>55171877
About 350€
>>
>>55171877
>>55171891
Maybe the sapphire nitro but reference design should be 300€

Could you elabourate? I only got into computers three years ago.
Not OP btw.
>>
>>55171910
what's the difference between the two?
>>
>>55171988
Custom clocks, customs coolers, custom components, premium this and premium that.
>>
>>55171988
Better overclocking capabilities of the nitro.
>>
Why are the cards much more expensive in yurop?

>>
>>55168025
Get the RX 480
>>
>>55168025
Absolutely not. Get a rx480: faster than a GTX980, costs $200, uses 100w at load.
>>
>>55172518
That feel when hearing all these RX480 will cost 200$ and the 460 and 470 even less and just knowing tht here in yurop it will be 300 minimum for 480 and 200+ for the other ones. I just finally wanted a cheap but good gaming PC.

AMD sucks with Bethesda games, though. Fallout 4 barely runs on a Radeon HD 6950. I doubt an RX 480 will make that much of a difference.
>>
>>55172545
man, 4k BRL for a fucking 1080, that's 1.2k USD, it's absolutely insane.

The average monthly income here is around US$440

I just want ot get off this ride.

Prices in Lithuania. Over 300 euro for rx 480 is a guarantee. Just gonna wait patiently for 470 or maybe even 460, if 470 gonna cost over 200 euro.

>>
>>55168025
Wait for the 480 to launch, even if you're not gonna buy it, prices will much probably drop down, at this point 200 for a 960 seems a bit too much.

All of this, of course, if the 480 actually lives up to the fanboys' hype.

Lucky for you the 480 is an AMD card and not ATi.
>>
>>55172607
Modern Bethesda games actually run better on AMD as you can actually control tessellation via the driver which Nvidia won't let you do.
>>
>>55171971
We've been on 28nm for four years. 20nm process got skipped as it provided no benefits

Before this the process switched every year and a half at max.

I have 2gb version. besides ram gpu is ok, runs everything as expected for the price, but I'm about to switch to 1070. if you want something more dusable and have the budget do so, otherwise 960 is damn fine. never had a single problem
