ATi never had good stability and desktop performance and AMD never fixed it after buying ati . i am staying with nvidia no matter if it cost more and is slower in games. the 3 AMD builds i have have a max of 730
,1,520 and 2,200 hours before they crash and need a reset. the nvidia build i have 19.544 hours. witch i only restarted it to upgrade.

I want Polaris to succeed, but let's not kid ourselves. It will probably be better than the lower high end from last generation and that's about it. Having a card that can OC and deprecate the entire GPU lineup for $200 would be incredible and they would have definitely mentioned that instead of going with more AotS bullshit. If anything, you should be excited for a fatter Polaris in Vega if they decide to release those chips without HBM2. The memory is scarce and expensive so we're looking at a very expensive card that is at least $600. If they opt to release fatter chips without HBM2, then we could maybe get a card in the $300-$600 range.

The RX 480 has a max power usage of 150w (75w PCIe slot and 75w on the 6 pin connector). The average power usage during gaming comes in at around 95w-110w. Only apps that deliberately max out the hardware like Furmark will make it get anywhere near 150w or overclocking. Nvidia fags keep quoting 150w like that is what it will be using. The GTX 1080 uses up to 311w with 173w+ being the average. I have not found out what the 1070 uses yet.

On DX11 it depends on the game and how well the driver profile for that game is. On DX12 which they are not many games currently. They will be using something called Split screen rendering which aims to eliminate micro stutter. I currently run a crossfire set up but I only play BF4 and I can say I see no micro stutter.

Wait for realize and look up benchmarks. Don't take the meme "X card is too powerful for 1080x60fps", because it just depends on the game. I remember when I got my 780 I launched Borderlands 2 maxed out to see I was getting serious sub 30fps dips because of FOV.
Bare in mind the options you are turning on, because "ultra settings" is just pretty dumb to do; you don't need 8x AA nor some other barely noticeable stuff. I want to be optimistic, but AMD is in the industry for the business, so they want to make the 480 look like the best of the best.
Also, there's no way in hell you are fitting a 1070 on a 800$ budget. With that amount of money you wouldn't have enough for that GPU and a CPU.

1080 60 on high is doable with a 280x, a 480 will easily accomplish this, though go 8gb as some games eat more then 4gb of ram and my system uses 1gb of vram on its own.

I highly doubt the 1070 will be touched, but its still a possibility depending on how much you can oc these things, i mean nvidia's shit can go to 2100, why cant amds go to 1500-1700 with the base 1200~ being lowest common denominator.

like i said though, my system eats 1gb of ram effectively making my 3gb card a 2gb
im sure there are far more games that go over 3gb of ram if you let them, and with the new consoles announced a 5 tflops and 8gb ram again, i expect more multi platform releases to eat high ram.
